Yes will take you on a journey - to where is individual to the listener. I have seen them in concert 5 times, and each time I float out of the venue. An experience like none other. I am very thankful to have been enjoying them for over 50 years.
I started out listening to Jethro Tull and then somehow got hooked on Yes, and what a trip these bands have given me for over 50 years, to me timeless music. Not many bands can keep you wanting just listen to them over and over again for that long. I will always just say yes to Yes...
This song is an epic. I have been listening to it since it came out all those years ago. I love how the words make no sense but somehow fit together anyway! This is Yes at their best!
One of the first albums I owned as a young teen. I would sit in my room and veg out after getting high and hanging with my friends then when it was time to go home I'd often put this on, beautiful album.
Geddy Lee of the band Rush lived and breathed this album. Chris Squire was a huge influence on Geddy, and Geddy said that without the band Yes, there would be no Rush.
For you to mention Rush. I must assume BizMatik has shown interest in them. Cool if you like pseudo Prog-Lite Rock. Personally, not a fan at all but musically they're far from being in the same league as 70's YES & of other major original innovators of the genre. Just sayin'
@wendellwiggins3776 Biz has reacted close to 20 rush songs, so I know he's interested. Sorry you find Rush unworthy, Yes are very much virtuosos, but for a 3 piece band that sounds like 5 members and very technically sound with their instruments, I hold them both in high regard as musicians, and wasn't forming any opinions on it, just stating a fact.
As prodigiously talented as their prog peers like ELP, Yes were on a massive creative roll in the early 1970s, releasing both "The Yes Album" and "Fragile" in 1971. For many fans of prog rock, the arrival of the Yes album "Close to the Edge" in 1972 was not unlike the release of the Beatles’ "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band" some five years earlier. Like that early psychedelic landmark, "Close to the Edge" (frequently voted not just the best Yes album of all time but the greatest prog album too) was a sprawling, genre-melding sonic wash of sound unlike anything anyone had heard before. - GuitarPlayer and Loudersound
Maybe my favorite concert..maybe my favorite song...Tampa Stadium, 1974..I was a DJ throughout the 90s..I dug this album out of the stacks at the radio station and there, scrawled across the cover in black magic marker, it said "Best Damn Album in the World"...
Not just “just as good” live but better. It wasn’t astonishing enough that Yes could conjure this music up out of their deep imaginations, but they could surpass the studio versions onstage. Beyond plausible belief. ❤
Getting "Close to the Edge" with every YES Reaction! (pun intended). Still to go are songs like HEART OF THE SUNRISE, PERPETUAL CHANGE, LONG-DISTANCE RUNAROUND/THE FISH & of course SIBERIAN KHATRU which you might like to try next because once you cross The Edge, there's only the dive into deeper oceans of YES that follows. Just trying to get you fully suited up properly first
Now you're reacting to some of MY favorite music! It's very common for these songs to be given a 2nd, 3rd, 100th, 1000th listen by YES fans. They get inside your soul somehow. I'm looking forward to your next YES reaction. You might try "Siberian Khatru" from this album next. Or "South Side of the Sky" from their "Fragile" album. ✌️ 😊
Biz: "Sad preacher nailed upon the colored door of time" is about Martin Luther, a Catholic who nailed a list of heresies on the church door. As for what's next, well, the 18 minute title track awaits - and shall not disappoint!
Jon Anderson (lead vocal), Steve Howe (guitar), Trevor Rabin (guitar/vocals joined later "Owner of the Lonely Heart"), Bill Bruford (drums), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), and RIP Chris Squire (bass). Saw them 3 times and I was surely blessed! These guys are other worldly talented. Never be matched!
OH GAWD ! Close to the Edge Live on Microdot then Blotter for TALES Live until I graduated into college with 4-Way for RELAYER Live and beyond to Sugar Cube for GFTO... "HIGH the Memory carries on...." If only I could Age & Time travel back!
YES for their time were equivalent to Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky (add your personal favorite) jamming together. Forever unique, unprecedented, and unforgettable progressive rock. I was a freshman in high school when "Roundabout" came out.
Yes is one of the few bands who sound better live than on their original recordings. If you like this song check out the 2003 Montreaux version. It is stupendous.
One of those bands where repeated listens bring greater and greater rewards. When I first heard this album when it was released, yes I’m that old,I wondered what all the fuss was about but my mate told me to persevere. I did that and today,CTTE is one of my all time favourite albums. Patience in this instant world we all live in now is in short supply, but I urge you to play this album again and again. My IQ steps up several notches when I listen to it.
Went to a concert promoting the album. 52 years later it's still a great song/album. Time wise i thought the same thing about Close to the Edge, no way that was 18 minutes. Then I figured no way side two holds up to what I heard so far. I was wrong. Favorite album of all time.
@lesblatnyak5947 Nice! I learned fast and became pretty picky about venues that I frequent. Especially with a band like YES. Two of the 6 YES concerts I attended were good....but the other 4 were simply stellar! I remember one night at the Gibson amphitheater the bass was so strong and clean on "Heart of the Sunrise" I simply couldn't believe it! Next year will be my 50th year of attending music concerts. of all the bands, YES is in the top 5 of over the top phenomenal live music experiences.
One of my top 5 favorite bands. Glad you enjoyed it. You definitely have an appreciation of great music. You should check out "Siberian Khatru" the track after this one on the 'Close To the Edge' album "Heart of the Sunrise", "South Side of the Sky " or "To Be Over"
great song... this was a peak. god I hate the "deluxe edition" graphics. that designer should be drawn & quartered. it was probably an exec, not a designer. tittle track next.
And you and I climb, Crossing the shapes of the morning. And you and I reach, Over the sun for the river. And you and I climb, Clearer towards the movement. And you and I called, Over valleys of endless seas...🤟😎

A Yes Masterpiece, many thanks Biz❤
Thanks Biz for your reaction! Love Yes so much. As many mention, they can be life-changing.

Rush inducted Yes into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame….after they were inducted themselves.
RIP Chris Squire.
@@wendellwiggins3776Rush is great in their own right. But Yes is #1
Ladies and gentlemen YES the greatest show on earth ✨️🎶✨️
Epic #1 Progressive Rock Pioneer Album. My heart❤❤❤
Such a beautiful song

Yes!
Just as good live - this band has technical chops off the charts. Check out the live performances on the Yessongs film.
Not just “just as good” live but better. It wasn’t astonishing enough that Yes could conjure this music up out of their deep imaginations, but they could surpass the studio versions onstage. Beyond plausible belief. ❤
Best band, ever. Period.
Yes....and mushrooms. Perfect combination. :)

"Siberian Kathru" by them (next song on the album) - It's a REAL BANGER - You won't regret. Sad, your microphone was off - love it when you sing along
Please check out "Changes" by YES, released in 1983. Thank you for the entertainment you provide.

As enjoyable a journey in music as I can think of, except for more by them and some other bands.😊❤
Three songs on this wonderful album and this is the shortest one I believe.
Biz, check out the title song Close to the Edge.

Hippie music but not bad hippie music
Release Release off the Tormato album is exhilarating
When are you going to play the rest of this 3-song epic groundbreaking masterpiece album?
Some of the beginning acoustic guitar reminds me of Supertramp and the keyboards starting around 4:35 remind me of King Crimson
Siberian Khatru from the same album is a great listen, but Close to the Edge from the same album is the greatest prog rock song...EVER.
