    that shaking is NOT normal. as for the clunk. check the swaybar links. just because they look ok doesnt mean they are. i found that out the hard way. also double check their work. just because a shop did it doesnt mean they didnt miss something.

      @@AutoAuctionRebuilds- it's indicative of how few troubleshooting mechanics there are out there these days at dealerships. The guy who put the new rack on obviously didn't double check his work or have a senior mechanic go over the job. Yes, time is money at these dealerships but you'd think 2 hours of troubleshooting would be worth $10,000 extra in sales - seems like a supervisor made the call, "just get that thing out of here!"

    If I remember correctly, they did announce that it had a rusty undercarriage, that would hurt the resale value quite a bit, I may be wrong, but we’ll see what it sells for. Either way it made some good Content 😂

    For sure one of the more quirky and 'retro' styled vehicles that were popular of the time (PT Cruiser, Prowler). The look was kinda based on the late 1940's-early 1950's Chevy pick up trucks. For sure a stand out in yellow. As only a 2-seater it limits its practical use. Hopefully you can sort out the steering issues, perhaps have to replace the pump, replace the tires, get some YT videos for us out of it. You could have it for the rest of the summer for fun cruising, go to car shows, and get back you investment for sure and even some profit later this year.

    It was not a bad vehicle. It does have a very retro look to it (as intended by GM) but i think folks struggled to figure out what it was. Was it a pickup? Or a car? Or a convertible? It was also kind of pricey back in the day and there were other vehicular options beside this during that same time. As you mentioned, you can take the cover off. GM even sold a kit that came with both a way to store the bed cover without damaging it and also a switch you plugged into the the wire harness to trick the computer into thinking the cover was closed. Without this, the car would constantly nag you that the cover was open. Yours is the best one for that as you don't have that carpet in the bed.
    That thump in the steering could just be a loose bolt that the techs did not tighten up all the way. or perhaps the famous GM ISS (Intermediate Steering Shaft) issue. This causes a thump to happen. I have had 2 GM cars with this issue. It is easy to fix, you just need to remember to make sure the steering wheel is not allowed to rotate around as that will rip the clockspring wires out
    I have always liked them and think they could be a good daily driver. it is the perfect pickup for the suburbs as most folks there are using their pickups for commuter vehicles with trips to Home Depot. This works well for that and also gives you a way to not use AC by putting the top down.

    I am writing this before your explanation of why this SSR came about. I think the retro idea was what brought it into being. that and the fact the El Camino was no more. If you look back at the early 1950's Chevy Pickup trucks you will see a good similarity to the SSR.

    Very cool, I like these odd ball vehicles myself. Thank you for this adventure;

    It’s a very retro looking “Automobile” when sitting beside the 40 Chevy.😊

    Nice purchase there Randy. I have a friend who just sold his SSR.
    that pop in the steering wheel might be the knuckles in the steering shaft under the hood. I had several early 2000s gm products that had that popping noise. Shoot some penetration oil on the knuckles and see if it goes away.

    Downunder they call that a "Ute" which is short for utility vehicle. It's GM's retro truck. It seems retro was popular for a bit.

    Tires and balance will most likely help that front end. Awesome ride.
