Yea he did a great job, thanks for going to Pappas and showing some love Chime!! My favorite as well. Best honey old bay wings, and mozzarella sticks(half moons) too.
Timbuktu was my go to spot back in the day. Two bigazz crabcakes for 42$ and it was worth every penny. If a single crabcakes is under 25$ in 2023 I have to assume it’s all filler or mostly backfin. Unfortunately the price fluctuates with the season and availability due to overfishing.
I knew it Koco Pub will win. That’s a great tasting crab cake. It’s like like a hole in the wall. It has a little bit of everything and it’s delicious. I’ve been there before and it seemed like the prices went up lol.
Yall, crab cakes are not supposed to be cheap. Especially in Maryland. If it is, it's probably gross. Also, Chime is living my foodie dreams. I love crab cakes and tasting a bunch of Maryland crab cakes would be the bee's knees.
Pretty sure most of those (def all in the >$25 range) were all made with jumbo lump crab meat. It’s market price. The lumps can break in preparing them or eating them. But there is $ difference between lump and jumbo lump crab. G&M def adds mustard and it goes HARD and I even add more on top. But, that’s my business as sister Tab would say.
Yeah, I was wondering if when he went to Faidley's if he specified wanting lump crabmeat or not since he made the comment that he didn't taste any lump crabmeat in it. Either way though, I'm so glad he did end up going there and G&Ms at least before he left Maryland.
Yes, we can also buy small frozen crab cakes in Maryland for less money, but the restaurants are serving fresh picked crab since we are on the coast and the price of the raw materials is currently about $50/lb. I’m not saying that the price makes sense, but the finished product is moist, sweet, and delicate. You could also buy frozen salisbury steak for $5, but a 8 oz filet mignon still costs $40 at the steakhouse.
It’s cause the crab market down here is very inflated due to the blue crab numbers being low. If the blue crab can get to fucken and produce a new generation of dinner, I’m sure it’ll go down a bit
As a Baltimorean and tried and true crabcake aficionado, I can tell you you’re pretty close!!! Koko’s makes an excellent crabcake followed closely by Papas, Jimmy Seafood, and G&M, in my opinion. Others may have a differing opinion, depending on taste. The best one is the one made at home for most of us, but I would not turn any of these down, including Faidleys. Love your site and have subscribed. Will be checking out some of the spots you’ve sited. Keep up the good work!!!
None of the crab cakes are mid esp compared to out of town crab cakes and they def come with sides. It's places not on here like Valentinos where you get big great sides with big good crab cakes. We don't have fony shit in Baltimore, $30 is good.

Mr. Chimes You must get out to Frederick MD to Jerry's Place. Now that is where you can get a serious crab cake. I have also been a fan of Timbuktu, however Jerry's Place has them all beat.
Finally, a good ole crabcake showdown in the correct region!

Koco's for the win! Worth every penny!
PAPPAS is hands down the best. Box Hill Pizza in Bel Air is a close second.
