Ernie Johnson's first NBA draft he hosted for TNT replacing Bob Neal, who had been hosting it for a long time from 1985-1994. Amazing how much younger he looked back then.
This is crazy I remember going to this with my cousin I was like 9 or 10 this is the first time The Raptors (& Vancouver ) made there first pick ...the beginning...and I’ve seen the ups and downs of this team and now I can witness The Raptors winning The NBA Title for the first time ... this is Soo crazy...#WeTheNorth
KG did have the best career and best ppg averages out of all of them except for Stackhouse, but if your speaking abt the 1995-96 season, Stackhouse, Joe Smith, McDyess, Damon Stoudamire, Michael Finley, Big Country, and Sheed were better than him in terms of scoring in that season.
If you look back at the 1991-1994 drafts the crowd exploded at the announcement of the number 1 pick...this draft not so much..Big Country the nicest guy ever.
@@dametime128 Stop it. He had more than a great rookie year. He was a top 10 PG his first 5 years in a stacked PG league and if the refs hadn't given the Lakers the 2000 WCF we'd be talking about Stoudamire a lot different.
1. KG 2. Sheed 3. Michael Finley 4. McDyess 5. Stoudemire 6. Stackhouse 7. Theo Ratliff 8. Joe Smith 9. Brent Barry 10. Kurt Thomas 11. Corliss Williamson 12. Greg Ostertag 13. Big Country 14. Eric Snow
The whole product of the NBA from start to finish with so much better back then Hubie Brown was a great analyst Craig Sager. The whole cast was awesome.
Do you remember this season well? My first NBA memory was watching the 1998 NBA finals with my dad Jazz vs Bulls. Was around 2001 I started following the NBA.
That decision was actually a pretty good one back then. Kid's got a top pick worthy type of talent (comparing him against the other draftees) and a ton of potential too.
I mean he had 20.8 PPG, 2.9BPG, 1.5SPG and 10.6RPG as a sophomore, idk what impresses you more. He is a solid player having a career average being 10.9PPG which is still pretty decent, he just kept getting sent over to alot of teams in his 16 year career so he can get alot of money (what i meant was he was offered 83M to sign a 3 one year contracts). But he can still average at around 10 or 11 PPG.
Poor Shawn Respert, he could have been soooo good in the NBA had cancer not derailed him.
Ernie Johnson's first NBA draft he hosted for TNT replacing Bob Neal, who had been hosting it for a long time from 1985-1994. Amazing how much younger he looked back then.
He looked almost 30 years younger 30 years ago.
Felt bad for Damon Stoudamire. He didn't choose the Raptors but he got booed by the fans.
Is there anything more 90s than sick graphics and Alive by Pearl Jam?

Stackhouse and Wallace at UNC... Hopefully I can find some 94-95 Tarheel games online. Garnett the best pick overall.

Still trips me out on Scottie Thurman not getting picked in this draft..
Too slow to guard shooting guards but too small to guard small forwards. That's one of the reports I read way back in 1995.
There was a show on not too long ago where Alex Rodriguez was helping Joe Smith keep from going bankrupt.
31:01 little did Craig know that this boy would ask him t burn his suit several years later.

Big Country brought me here.
KG was 18, now he's 41
your point is?
He acts and dresses like he's 15 on Area 21

There’s only so much excitement to be generated by the name Joe Smith
As a Pistons fan it brung a tear to my eyes to see him drafted. Detroit loves this dude.
Anton Riley brought a tear to my eye, not brung. Brung ain't a word man.
@@leinyvargas lol
@@leinyvargas went all savage on the guy lol
Loved Cherokee. Wasn't great but he is and remains a stellar dude.
At least Isiah Thomas made one good move as GM by bringing in Damon Stoudamire over Ed O Bannon
Yeah true but it’s not like stoudamire was some world beater either, had a great rookie season but then did nothing after that,
@@dametime128 he was too short to make it work in the NBA

if the nba would have started this draft over would have been 1. Garnett 2. Rasheed Wallace 3. Jerry Stackhouse
Finley is up there also
blackstar15 Doubt it, in the 90s big guys were the players to have, now a days every team wants a PG/SG who can make 3s
DestinyEditZ Garnett is a stretch 4 so is sheed Wallace stack can shoot a bit so I'm correct

When you first see Ernie, you’re waiting for Kenny and Chuck at first then you remember it’s 1995 and they’re still playing.
Sheed Wallace! my dude
Joe had a very long nba career but he was not a number 1 pick level player
Betterman single came out in early 1995. Good intro track
R.I.P. David Stern.
How hubie brown never get old
MAN THIS DRAFT WAS LOADED. I was in high school 😢 at this time.
Could you upload 1997,1998 and 1999 nba draft? Thx
Funny that they play Better Man by Pearl Jam as Warriors take Joe Smith over Kevin Garnett and others.
The irony of that under the table nonsense Joe Smith had that would lead to a bunch of draft pick losses for the Timberwolves..🤕
So after fumbling on C Webb, earlier the GS Warriors passed on KG?!
That’s me at 8:09 lol
I honestly thought Joe Smith would've been a hall-of-fame type player!!!
***** If Joe Added His 3-Point Shooting To His Game He Would've Averaged 37.8 Every Season
Bigdog still had a long career and made a nice bundle. Good team player and had a few nice seasons
How long has EJ worked for TNT? Dayum!
He has been with TNT since like 1986

Guy with his fingers crossed and then celebrating as the Raptors pick Stoudamire at 40:12.
Fucked up hoping somebody picks the wrong guy
Antonio McDyess is my favorite player of that draft.
Pre-Basketball Wives Eric Williams, before he threw water in his wife's face on national tv.
They stopped it right before Brent Barry got drafted!
Can you do 1997 NBA draft
Nice!!!!
Lol many of these players were quickly traded
Quite few of these picks ended up coming back to where they were drafted.
Started from the bottom now the Raptors in the finals!
Taking Joe Smith 1st is insane in retrospect
Kevin Garnett looks like he's 30 years old.
He 19
@@kidroblox2359 I am fully aware he came out of high school.

The first season of Raptors an Grizzlies. I had just turn 2 when this draft happened.

I can't believe Joe Smith was selected first in a draft
well, he had an exceptional college career, so it seemed to be a good decision at the time!
Hindsight..
Yeah college success doesn't always translate

I don't understand he put up good numbers in his first seasons did joe smith have injuries it was before my time so i don't know
He declined extremely after leaving gsw
Where is the rest of the draft?
KG play in Calfornia
Sheed play in Phily🎉
imagine picking JOE SMITH over KG, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, etc…..

Is that Ernie?
No it's Kermit the frog
Kevin Garnett should be 1st pick
At that time no1 was taking a hs kid number 1. And mcdyess if he didn't mess up his knees would've been a hofer too
The first overall pick better care if he scores.
Magic Johnson would like to know your location.
joe smith big bust
Nah man solid career just not a superstar
He was a top 10 player out of this draft. He had a solid and long career. He just wasn't a star.
