What you received at 8:00 is RTTY sea report from the German weather Service (DWD) from its huge transmitter in Pinneberg, Germany
On their website you find transmission schedules
Thankyou for the information. 👍
Looks like callsign DDH7 www.hfunderground.com/wiki/RTTY_maritime_weather_transmissions

July 2024 and the Ham it up nano still works great. It actually works noticeably better than the extended range USB Dongles by themselves. Nice that it can be powered by a Bias T enables USB Dongle.
The Ham It Up + ADALM PLUTO SDR would make a great pair!
Love your videos! You've helped me tremendously get up to speed quickly and helped me get setup for lots of SDR learning.
Software defined EVERYTHING is the future of technology as devices continue to get much smaller, more integrated and extremely capable to do so much more with RF.
Thank you and keep up the great work with your videos!
Thanks for the excellent review. I have had the Realtek RTL2832U for a number of years and was happy to listen to my FM stations for background music while I worked. Recently I was curious about the lower band AM radio as well as the HF bands and found the Nooelec upconverter. Thanks.
Would be great if you could do a comparison of the Ham It Up Nano + Nesdr and the RTL-SDR v3 in Direct Sampling mode to see which one performs better in the HF bands
Interesting idea! I’ll check it out!
Yes that would be a beneficial comparison.
That's a question I had too
Yes !
I also curious to see the comparisons between Ham it up Nano + Nesdr and the RTL-SDR V3 !
Your SDR intro videos finally got me over to nooelec to buy my first one. Ended up with the standard-issue SMArt and it'll be here tomorrow. I have a funny feeling I'm never going to get out of this particular rabbit hole... :D
It’s never ending Ted, there’s so much RF out there to explore. The world could not function without it now. Enjoy! And if you get stuck, give me a shout and I’ll try and help 👍 thanks for watching my videos.
@@TechMindsOfficial I appreciate it!
Im very curious about how this upconverter performs vs a Spyverter, because both cost $50 USD
Now we got expensive nooelec Ham It Down, used for S-Band satellites, at 2.2 GHz. For receiving Coriolis, or NOAA HRPT (yes, it transmits on both 1.7 and 2.2 GHz)
Can I use it in India and is it used for 3 ghz?
I GAVE THIS HOBBY UP A GOOD FEW YEARS AGO BUT I HAVE JUST ORDERED ANOTHER SET LOL, i WILL SELL ONE OF MY MVT -9000 YUPITERUS.
I have the exact same setup... but without a decent HF antenna.
im able to tune FM stations without the nano, but as soon as i plug in the nano i lose all broadcast fm and am stations.... is this normal?
(im reading the ham it up+ has a bypass switch to solve this?)
Another Great video! K8UR/4 Daily on 3788+/- with 8 element Yagi at 85ft between 2300-0300z
Thank you sir! Wish I had that kinda antenna system lol
@@TechMindsOfficial No. I assure you that you do not wish for this..
Damn! Ordered one after checking this post. Thank you
Can you tell me which antenna you use? It would be great if it were available on Amazon.
I use a End fed half wave with a 49:1 transformer. I’ll make a video on this antenna as it’s really good for small gardens, also it’s multi band without a tuner
Very cool, nice to see some italian at 6:30 from my mainland
Also how much stuff can you hear under 100Khz? I'm not sure whether to buy the ham it up plus or the nano
For under 100khz I’m sure you’d hear some things but I’d imagine this antenna would not be suitable. I’ll take a look tommorow tho
can you compare with old model ? what's difference ? sensitivity ? which one suggest model to buy.
super cool, I am looking at buying one of these right now. I have the old version1 ham it up, its super deaf like 10db insertion loss. Do you use an LNA between the up-converter and the antenna?
everything is there in the package even the small antenna??? thanks for sharing
Hi - loving your videos, so informative as I dive deeper into this new hobby for me. I was wondering if you had any comparison between the Ham it up nano and the Spyverter, please. Keep up the great work, thanks.
After watching this I ordered one.
So, is there any reason why we can’t rig one of these up to a normal radio or handheld scanner (if we do the math for frequency conversion)? What about modding these for TX?
Interesting and well presented as always, thanks! If I had a Ham it up connected to my SDR device would I be able to use my device's top (higher) frequencies without disconnecting the Ham It Up?
I have that same question. Seems like there would need to be some type of bypass or else jumping around to listen above 65 Mhz would be a mechanical nightmare and take away some of the fun.
Amazing channel man. Maybe you can help me to decide which SDR to start with the Nooelec Smartee XTR, Smartee V2, AirSpy mini.
Hi and thanks for the comment. It depends on your budget. Airspy mini will be the better choice, but the NooElec are very very good for the price point. You could start with the NooElec and then upgrade to an Airspy if you feel you are enjoying the hobby :)
Tech Minds Thank you for your response. I was even thinking to get the TLR and try. My plan is to use my Raspberry Pi4 and use is to listen/scan. And then if I like it, go for a LimeSDR for more ambitious project. Thank you for your time!
You’ll have lots of fun with a Pi4 attached too! Give me a shout if you need me to cover something in a video :) 👌
Should I use ham it down converter if i wanted upto 3 ghz?
Hmmm Does the TCXO really have 1PPM? I got a Ham It Up Nano in the Nooelec giveaway some weeks ago and the datasheet that I got says it's 0,5 PPM.
Thanks for your comment, I took the specs from their website so I’m assuming it’s correct. I’ll check with them. Thanks for watching 👌
@@TechMindsOfficial You are right. Had a look at amazon. There they say it's 1PPM. Have a look at my Twitter @rwefan1907 There is a picture of the datasheet that we got with our prize. Maybe they changed the TCXO after the giveaway. Who knows :)
I have just started with SDR and I have found your videos very helpful. I have a NooElec NESDR SMArt v4 which I use to listen to Airband and I would like to listen to the HF band. What would be the best experience for a beginner, purchase an RTL-SDR V3 and run it in direct sampling mode or get a
Ham It Up Nano to go with my SMArt?
Any advice would be appreciated.
The direct sampling modes leave a lot to be desired. Mostly because there is no gain control. I have the RTL-SDR Blog V4 (which supposedly has a upconverter inside it) and Nooelec extrended range dongles and the RTL-SDR Blog V4 works better than the Nooelec NESDR SMArt, mostly because the V4 has gain control when using the extended frequency mode. But they both work noticeably better when used with a Ham It Up Nano. The Ham It Up nano is pretty nicely done.
Do you need a special antenna ?
I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction, so I'm looking at getting a HackRF One but I was wondering if I should buy the one on Amazon ($315US) or if the ones on aliexpress/banggood ($70-$115US) is there a difference? Any info i find is over a year old and just says they look to be built from plans... thanks
Hey Joshua, thanks for the message. To be honest I don’t know what the cheap HackRF units are like. I would imagine they are some kind of clone but as I havnt had one I don’t know if they are any good. In my opinion I would definately get the original one, even though it’s more expensive at least you’ll know it’s original and will do what it’s supposed to. You could try asking this question in the HackRF Facebook group if you have Facebook. My advice would be to buy original.
@@TechMindsOfficial Wise Decision. Only the Original will be able to withstand the freqs, recall all channels, and be fully capable of executing top performance after correct optimizations vs. degradation and improper handling of equipment and programs. Frickin' Beaucratic commies! And I ain't feared to say it!
Hi mate I'm new to this some advice please.also im interested is shortwave to how will i be able to do that . i've just bought this bundle any tips on connecting up like the one in this video Also will the software work that you have links for cheers Mike
Hi Mike, Sorry for the delay in replying, lots of comments to trawl through :-) Did you manage to get sorted or do you need some advice. I can make a video if there are some specific things you would like me to cover. Thanks, Matt
I have the NESDR and it doesn't power the Nano up. You have to plug it in.
That can catch mobile phone signal too?
please can you tell me which antenna did you use in the video?
I used an EFHW. Take a look at one of my recent videos on the EFHW :)
Everytime I use on gnuradio it doesnt work but on sdrpp it does. Why is that?
What version of SDR# has those IF and Audio spectrum windows? Are those available as plugins?
It’s the latest version. You enable them in the tabs on the left of the screen :)
Tech Minds Update time, thanks!!
@@sithticklefingers7255 Next You'll be telling Us Ur Our Father... Lol. Jussss kidding.. Please Empire, Don't Strike back! I resist I resist!
Will it work with the pluto?
Can. I use this for my rtl sdr blog v3
Is it a smartphone mini vhf radio
There's the occasional mention of this being capable of a downconvert for transmit aswell as recieve, although I've not found any example videos or posts about it yet.
Has anybody tried this out as TX?
I would not recommend transmitting through this as it’s not designed for this.
@@TechMindsOfficial Interesting - I found the bit I was thinking of and it mentions this in relation to functioning as a panadapter.
However, the Ham It Up 1.3 clearly has "It will function in both transmit and receive modes if available on your SDR." on the description. Have you any experience with this?
The nooelec ham it up nano work on android tablets
It depends if the android software allows for an up converter frequency offset.
Thank and 73 to you sir
+ or - 125 MHZ ?
- 125 MHz
Danke bin inzwischen auch darauf gekommen. Tolles Teil.
I want to get 1.7 ghz to 6 ghz. Is it possible?
You’d have to look at the HackRF ONE or LimeSDR for those kind of ranges. 👌
Can i still listen to VHF/UHF if i connect a suitable antenna for it, but with the hf-upconverter still in line? Or do i need to unplug the upconverter if i want to listen to uhf again?
yes
@@Antenna101
Which yes??? 🤣
@@antalperge1007 yes
You need to remove the Ham It Up Nano to use VHF again. It is quick, just unscrew the SMA connector(s).
How can i encode in RTTY?
There are even apps for your smartphone which can decode RTTY if you set the right mode, just search for it. Beyond that, there are many apps for your PC to decode it. Fldiggi is one if them. Just google for it
I see.
This sure ain't newbie user friendly! I bought a nano, trying to follow your steps, and it doesn't work! And Nooelec doesn't impart manuals to come with it or anything!
My first ever look at this technology. An novice question... if I get this working as a receiver how do I use it with a transmitter, say, 100W like the IC-7300? References or Videos? please email me.
Oh. Yeah, Frickin piece a cake! 🙄
