I've read majority of this run, and I've got to say...it's pretty good. Like you said, Omar, those first few arcs ("Skywalker Strikes", "Showdown on the Smuggler's Moon", and "Vader Down") are so cinematic, action-packed, and fun. It really felt like they wanted to replicate the feel of the movies in a way that doesn't often vibe with the comics. All the characters sound like themselves and they act pretty much how they would be in between Episodes IV and V. The story starts to falter a bit for me after "The Last Flight of the Harbinger", but it stays consistent in keeping my attention level throughout to the end. My favorite arc in here is "Showdown on the Smuggler's Moon." Aaron's awesome storytelling and Immonen's beautiful artwork just make for a phenomenal team. But honestly, the parts that aren't so great stick out like a sore thumb in my opinion. "Yoda's Secret War" was boring, but the climax seemed like it would be good before it...ends. "The Screaming Citadel" had an awesome first issue, but then the story went completely haywire. Annual 3 by Jason Latour and Michael Walsh was...the exact same as Annual 2 by Kelly Thompson and Emilio Laiso (which I greatly preferred). And, to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Salvador Larroca's artwork. It works for a character whose face doesn't emote like Darth Vader, but in this run, it looks so boring compared to the other artists who feature in this book. I've not read the Legends material, but I wonder if it's just as good or better. If you're a SW fan, or you want a way to celebrate May the 4th, I'd recommend this book at a great discount. It's a fun time overall, but nothing really game-changing in my opinion.
@@NearMintCondition Agreed, which is why I ultimately passed on this book as well as Darth Vader. I just really don’t like his new style, and I feel like he traces, so I don’t want to support that.

I'm not too familiar with the printing companies that you mentioned. I have recently noticed 3 types of paper with Marvel books. A: The kind in the silver age books that is thick and glossy on both sides. B:super thing pages like in Wolverine and the Xmen . C: The kind that that use for the 12 issue OHCs. the paper is pretty thick. one side is super glossy and one side has a texture. The newest Darth Vader had the Type C paper, which I like.
Would be so awesome if marvel had the DM’s include all the dust jackets for an extra 5$-10$ .. would make retailers happy and would make fans super happy
Dammit. You got me ordering this new printing because that new spine is making me think they’ll do the following run soon. Guess I’ll be selling off my OHC set.
If this is only a 37 issue omnibus, is there going to be another one collecting 38-75? I’m new to omnibuses and honestly just trying to figure out how this works.
Hello, Omar! The new animations at the beginning of the video, and throughout, are very nice. Good job! Do you recommend reading this first, before reading Gillen's Darth Vader omnibus, or it doesn't matter?
Happy Star Wars Day, Omar & all the Minties all over our little planet in a big galaxy!! Do you know if we'll ever get more omnis or OHCs finishing this original run of Star Wars? Everything we got after this is just regular trades.
Great overview, Omar! I got the Yoda cover. Waiting on this to arrive along with the Vader by Gillen omni. Any recommendation on the order to read those two books?
Which omnibus should I get to start first this one or the Darth Vader by Charles Soule. I have not read any of these but have loved the art and writing in the “war of the bounty hunter” series
Once again if you bought the first printing you're gifted with a mismatch when/if Vol. 2 arrives. Apparently Omni customers from 3 or 4 years ago are not important anymore to Marvel.
I read this as floppies. It starts out good, goes weird in a bad way. Then we get Vader Down which was good. By the end of the run, I felt like the series was spinning its wheels. Great art though. There is not one bad issue concerning the art.
What’s canon and what isn’t can be a little confusing since marvel did their original line and then this line too. I can do that, but I sold most of my SW epics years ago.
Looking at my long shelf of Star Wars omnibus editions, I can't help but wish they had matching spines with the red logo. Has anyone out there put together a set of printable custom dust jackets?
Any chance the various mini-series, from this era will be collected in OHC? The Leia, Lando minis come to mind but I thought there might be a couple more. I've pre-ordered this omni and am looking forward to re-reading the stories.
Marvel definitely has more faith in the omnibus line now. Hoping that means we get more series’ spines and content thought out better. I definitely prefer the first printings spine but if they’ve changed it for their volume 2 that makes sense. More consistent, less artistic.
What about people that bought the first printing and will have mismatch with Volume 2? Oh, well, hopefully they will change dress for Volume 2 so new customers will understand... 😠
So Can someone help me understand. Is this omni hole story between episodes 4 and 5 or just part of it? And the one coming this year by Gillen and Pak is between 5 and 6 or Vol 2 for this one?
Great overview...im slowly trying to convince myself to go all collected stories and quit floppies....im getting tired of the rat race in its whole...😅...the art and writer are top notch...
