Omg I love the performance by the actor playing Smiley, it's incredible how like his sense of being creeped out while still trying to be entertaining and funny for the audience comes through so well, it's so complex
Pre "found footage" stories. I remember hearing this one some time ago. The imagination and the power of suggestion is so much creepier than all the contemporary gore-fests they call horror movies. I didn't grow up with dramatic radio programs, with the exception of "Adventures in Odyssey". I love the comedy and the drama.
That was 80 years ago and you can still go into any auto parts store and buy Autolite spark plugs lol, they sure got every cent out of advertising on that show, it made me want to go out and buy Autolite products right now lol.
The earliest "found footage" story I am aware of is Bram Stoker's novel, "Dracula." It is written as a collection of letters, diary and journal entries and a newspaper article or two. It would not surprise me to discover that that was not the first example. The difference is in the kind of recording devise used. "Dracula is the written word, "Ghost Hunt is an audio recording and "The Blair Witch Project" is audio visual.

I agree! Hats off to Ralph Edwards, a great performance as this character!
I listened to these radio programs when I was a little boy before we had a TV,
Such a good job by Ralph Edwards. You can hear him getting a bit more freaked out as it goes. So good.
reminds me a little of that story from Tales From The Crypt' - tv entertainer spends the night in a haunted house filming, only to be driven mad.
Thank you for posting this one...one of my very favorites!!!
Love the title can't wait for this one, sounds spooky!!🧟♀️
Brilliant episode.
Good job, Ralph! I believed that you were driven mad...

+Anna Ferrara I agree. I first heard this, thought, wow, great writing. Thanks for your comments.

I didn't grow up with these gore movies. I heard about these shows from my mother, Grandma and sisters. I like using my imagination.
Wouldn't it be found audio instead of found footage

The "found footage" story device decades before "Blair Witch".
