    Well after saying I hadn't had any issues so far I spoke to soon 🤦🏻
    Had a overheat on esc after running for a short time. Only happened the once. But yesterday I connected batteries and powered up checked everything working and give it a short run. Power off. Walked over the road to the big carpark,power on and it went through its usual start up but nothing worked, no steering, no power, and red light flashes on esc. 🤦🏻 Been through manual, u tube , Google etc, I can't get it to work.
    Not sure if ESC is fried or wants programming maybe.
    Nice upgrade on the servo there 👌

    Richie did you have the same problem with the old servo? I know it sounds crazy but I wonder if the new servo is pulling current away from the overtemp causing it to fault out or is the esc overheating because of the more powerful servo.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  4 роки тому

      Michael no I didn't but I upgraded my infraction V1 servo very early on as given the weight of the car it's always struck me as a tiny sized servo (Pulling power) given the 13+ lbs in weight the steering is having to keep in check. You do though raise a valid point, however without the new servo fitted the weekend before I attempted a top speed run, the esc shut down at about 75% and the car came back to me in limp mode, it's not, not, not the servo it's the esc. I didn't put that video up as I didn't want to raise the issue and make arrma look silly, and I don't like raising it here (Remember anything wrong with a traxxas car it's the car's fault, anything wrong with an arrma and it's always the drivers fault!!!!) If you start to google arrma infraction esc issues you'll see the problem. I owned 2 stock infraction V1's from the day they came out, both esc's had burnt out on the 100% stock cars within a week. The fact that horizon are out of stock of the 150A esc should say it all. Good and valid point you raise but no way is a servo going to overheat the esc.

      @@DriftomaniacsRC Ahh..the other limp mode was before the Receiver...but it did drive instead of go dead? I don't think he's saying it caused the overheat, but maybe a voltage dip. That was the question I just asked before reading this. My Infraction v1 I was blaming my batteries at first, but then did the temp gun and read what the blinking ESC error codes was. Definitely overheating

    I may be making the call as well buddy... not sure if you have seen my video, but ended up with no brakes at high speed which of course ended in a crash at 70+ mph...
    I believed it was an isolated incident at first as I was the only one who had experienced it, but now there are some more videos popping up with the same issue..
    I have asked spektrum a couple times as to how the firmware deals with both esc thermal and cap thermal / over amp... No response as of yet..🤷‍♂️

    That's odd that everyone is having issues with the arrma ESC's. I have the V5 Kraton... ran 5 full packs through it with no over heating issues.

  • @CCxRC
    @CCxRC 4 роки тому

    Well that's definitely not good. Did you read the esc warning flashes to see if it was overheat or lipo cutoff. I know it was a fresh battery, but sometimes I've had them dip in Voltage output enough to put it in lipo cutoff prematurely...especially if there are other electronics like fans or High Voltage servos.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  4 роки тому

      Good points however Fog City and me speed tested this car the week before WITHOUT the servo upgrade, the car cut out about 75% into the first full throttle speed run, came back to us in limp mode, we put fresh batteries in (Although first pack was 100% charged and still 92% when we got home) and the same thing happened again. I didn't post that video to save arrma and horizon blushes, but we can post it? The car isn't running any fans other than the stock arrma ones. Could they be the problem? Horizon sending new esc on the way, oh and they are out of stock of all the 150A esc's. Now that does beg the question why are they out of those? The infraction v1 esc was notorious for overheating as you know. With a 5000mah 100C pack I just can't see the servo triggering esc to overheat , and last weeks speed test (or lack of) all points to the esc.

    Hey.. curious of your advice, my buddy has a perfect condition felony with no motor / esc i am grabbing tomorrow, i have a futaba 7px remote so i will be running a futaba receiver and gyro, i will do this power hobby servo mod, but my question was, for a parking lot car, drift / road race kind of setup.. i was thinking of a mamba 8s with a tp 2300kv 8s setup, just curious your thoughts and maybe some direction, I’m fairly new to the game .. thanks

      Mamba 8S esc and that TP motor should see the thing flying along, Should be good for over 100 with the optional pinion, but DO remember to adjust the brake setting to the max on the mamba esc, I'd recommend the castle B-link cable, it's bluetooth $39 and let's you adjust every ESC parameter from punch level to braking %, throttle curve, brake curve etc on the fly from you phone. Best $39 you'll ever spend on an RC (besides the $900 we're already into!) Shout out for any more help. If I don't respond straight away the guys and girls are pretty helpful

    GREAT servo choice. As for the ESC, time to find a different/better option (and say "goodbye" to the Spektrum S.M.A.R.T. technology).

    • @jcallesano
      @jcallesano 4 роки тому

      Finally someone that agrees with me. The smart technology is nothing but a business ploy. I'll be upgrading the ESC fan surely and custom making a dual fan for motor the infraction V2.

    • @robbryan3044
      @robbryan3044 4 роки тому

      @@jcallesano Regarding S.M.A.R.T., exactly...it's nothing more than Spektrum trying to "one up" Traxxas. Not that either brand is 'bad'...on the contrary, both brands are extremely 'good'...but they are doing nothing more than coming up with "technology" to make them appear "better". First, Traxxas came up with iD, and the Traxxas Link, to which Horizon Hobby/Spektrum responded with S.M.A.R.T.
      They are the "Ford & Chevy" of the RC industry, thus, it's possible that, in the coming years, there will possibly be more "one upping" between them. As much as I enjoy "technology", the RC industry needs less advancement in that type of technology, and more advancement in areas such as better/safer batteries (Richie understands that one all too well), better ESCs, better/more-efficient motors, etc.

    • @jcallesano
      @jcallesano 4 роки тому

      @@robbryan3044 cant beat a single connector for the ID connectors though. Smart batteries still don't offer a single connector. Traxxas wins that all day long for user friendly and simplicity. Although I have connectors with leads for traxxas bats on my non traxxas charger. Its a give and take. Personal preference really.

    • @robbryan3044
      @robbryan3044 4 роки тому

      @@jcallesano I understand what you are saying, but I would have to disagree. Yes, connectors are a "personal choice"...but, the iD connector is not a "one connector to rule them all" design. Anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about amperage.
      I don't know if you have seen Richie's 16S Infraction, but, if you have, would you ever use iD connectors on that? I'll help you out here...the smart answer is "never". The original Traxxas connectors were only rated up to 60A. The iD connectors have a higher rating, alright no one really knows exactly what it is (estimates are 90A). When you're dealing with high-current-draw vehicles/vessels, you NEED connectors with much higher amperage ratings. For example, for my two competition boats, I would never use anything smaller than 6mm bullet connectors. If I used something like the iD connectors, my boats would probably go up in flames. Other/Larger boats, with even higher power draw, can require 8mm, or even 10mm, bullets.
      The Traxxas iD connector is no more The "cure" than the IC3/IC5 connectors. There is no such thing as a universal connector. However, if you want something close, you can do no better than the XT60 & XT90 connectors...especially the XT60, as that has (essentially) become the industry "go to". Almost all of my land-based vehicles use XT60s...NOT so much because of "personal preference", but because of their being "universal".

    • @jcallesano
      @jcallesano 4 роки тому

      @@robbryan3044 correct. Wasn't insinuating the ID connectors are the cure all, they're just easier to use since the lead is eliminated for people just starting out or anyone wanting a simple plug and play item.
      I'm not into the crazy powerful, untraceable vehicles. I have EC5s. They seem beefy, sturdy and good so far. Had deans on the batteries but changed those out.

    Thats funny.that power hobby servo looks 100% identical to the AGF-RC servo I just bought for my speed run slash.everything from the case to the wires is exactly the same as the power hobby.only difference I see is the speed.the 1 I bought is the low profile A62BLS.not only can you program servo though your computer with the included USB programmer but it also has a brushless motor along with titanium and steel gears and also has a double barring setup and its also waterproof rated at ip67 and it also included a nice aluminum servo horn(comes with the cheap plastic horns as well).operating speed is 0.074/60⁰@6.0v,0.068 @7.4v and 0.062 @ 8.4v and the static holding torque is 167 oz-in @6v,188 oz-in @ 7.4v and 202 oz-in @8.4v.didnt think it was gonna be strong enough but turns out it works better then the hitec servo I was using when the hitec was rated about 20% higher in torque not to mention is super fast compared to the hitec.AGF-RC also has servos that plug directly into your balance plug on battery so you can run servo full power without having a good adjustable esc or having to run a separate bec to get servos full potential.only thing i don't like about the AGF-RC servos is that they're made in china but what isn't these days.

    must give it the benefit of the doubt because you were drifting in closed quarters at 100% rpm and also in a closed in lot where theres no breeze like there would be in an open environment. You being an experienced expert , you provide great information for other experts who NEED to know the car's limits and weakness because that could be fatal during a situation which most pros have zero room for error. BUT....... for the majority of rc enthusiast, I think this rtr vehicle is self sustainable. Have you ever over heated the electronics doing full throttle runs at full speed in an open environment? Bcs thatll be something of concern.,
