The reaction to finding out that Blake was a Faunus haha. The sheer amount of joy contrasted with the sinking realization that she’s become invested in another complicated catgirl. 😂 I’m so excited for future stuff with Blake in these reactions.
[Mod] I SWEAR y’all, the fandom simply CANNOT keep from posting spoilers. 😤 If a character’s name has not been explicitly mentioned, and you post it, it will get removed. If you allude or “heavily hint” toward things, it will get removed. If you REPEATEDLY post spoilers (yes, I know who you are), your comments will be permanently hidden from the channel or live chats. PLEASE do not ruin the experience for Elijah, as this is the EXACT reason why she avoids the live chats or comments section of RWBY videos. Behave, RWBY fans. Don’t ruin this for everyone. - Edit: For those of you *still* asking about soundtrack reactions, please stop. Music of any kind gets HEAVILY copyright claimed no matter what. NO, you cannot just “post the full thing”, because Roosterteeth as a company does not exist and the rights are held by Viz Media. You are asking Elijah to do something that will *negatively* affect her ability to make money on the channel, so please be mindful of the state of YT copyright right now.
Now that you've gotten to the reveal about Blake's ears, I can finally share a fun fact about a prior episode. Remember that scene in the forest when Ruby was falling out of the sky and Jaune collided with her midair because he'd been thrown by the deathstalker (scorpion grimm)? Well right before we see Ruby falling, we get a shot of Yang and Blake, where Blake's pointing up to direct Yang's attention to Ruby. If you pay *very* close attention at the exact moment the camera cuts to that shot of Yang and Blake, you can briefly see Blake's bow move!
Mod] Remember NO SPOILERS, NO HEAVILY ALLUDING TO FUTURE EVENTS, and please be aware that regardless of what we as the fandom already know, please let Elijah form her own opinions of the show for as long as she has the series on UA-cam.
[Mod]Honestly, it’s best to not say or mention the characters names that we saw at the end of this episode until their names are actually said in the show so Elijah can react in the moment to there names & begin to form her own opinions and theories to them. & let’s be honest seeing her form the theories so for have been a joy to watch
Penny is a delight. 18:00 - The animators once said that Sun has one of the coolest weapons in the series, but it was a _nightmare_ to animate. 19:21 - All Faunus have regular boring Human ears even if they have animal ears. Velvet, the rabbit Faunus that Cardin was bullying, also has Human ears in addition to her rabbit ears.
_That_ is the best reaction to Blake's reveal *of all time.* And I've watched a dozen different Reactors over the last 4-5 years. So Good. So On Point.
Honestly, because I’ve seen a lot of the fandom drama (and because I’ve become increasingly depressed irl over the years), my enjoyment of the franchise had really dimmed. Elijah making these videos has really helped reignite that spark.
I like how we get to see a little more of Blake in these last few episodes with the revelation that she is a Faunus and how she seeks a just cause for her people despite being involved with the White Fang while Weiss has a different perspective on the actions of this group. Some interesting episodes that give us a little insight into these characters. Although as I have said on other occasions, I would have liked their conflict to have lasted a little longer to develop it better.
Perhaps, but stuff was already lasting too long, as far as the writers were concerned - one of the major events planned for this volume ended up being pushed back to volume 2, and then finally to volume 3 because they had so much else to cover first.
When you made that comment about Blake's bow looking like cat ears I was low-key reenacting the laughing lizard meme while watching. Your reaction was everything I wanted, haha. Also, some Faunus who have ears as their trait have one pair of ears, but most (like Velvet, the rabbit Faunus) have two. The further on in the show you get, the more the traits you see differ. It's a fun little detail!
i just rewatched volume 9 and seeing how much not only the characters, the animation, writers and the voice actors grow so substantially throughout the course of this show is inspiring. and mayhaps has made me a little teary eyed when i compare it to these reactions
Man, I wish had got into rwby sooner. It has been a while since I binged an entire series purely because I wanted to know what happens next. Currently about to finish volume 7 so I am way ahead of this, but I have to say this has to be one of my favorite all-time shows!
Blake's walking animation was motion captured, as virtually all the show is but, there are times when male mocap actors did female mocaps, I "think", that explains Blake's walk here. The Woman at the end is voiced by Jessica Nigri and they got Jessica in to mocap her walk and, I believe you will be much more satisfied with how that worked out. End Credit scenes show up after nearly all the last chapters in a volume. Even the ones with no scene will have, something after the credits.
Plus Poser (the software they were using for rigging the characters in the early volumes) can be a but janky at times. There are some outtakes from RWBY shown by Monty that shoe the extent that the software can get it seriously wrong.
Just a reminder, dust is an energy source in this world. They explained the basics of it early on. It powers their cars and their phones but more than that they use it in their ammo. All their weapons use dust. Weiss' Myrtenaster is a bit different, as it can switch between the different dust types on the fly, but they all use it.
The show explains it a bit better, so here’s a spoiler free version of Pennys’ Swords. Penny’s weapon is basically a backpack that stores all those swords. They are connected to the backpack via wires and controlled similar to the Microbots from Big Hero 6. It’s why it appears that all the swords are moving freely and why she’s able to be pulled by them and pull things with them.
The genetics around Faunus is actually really interesting. I'll let you find out about that on your own though, there's a whole supplemental video about it.
GOOD CHECK! Yes, when Weiss talks about trains of dust being attacked, that IS Blake's trailer. In heck, if you look back to the trailer, you can see each box of cargo has the Schnee signal on it, which Weiss wears on her back.
If you think that fire girl is giving you weird feelings now wait till you hear about her voice actor. Just a little someone called Jessica Nigri. If you don't know about her here's a tip, don't look her up in front of your family and definitely not in front of Mosco.
Can't see if anyone mentioned this but Ruby's line "She does like tuna a lot..." was ad-libbed by VA, Lindsay Jones - also she's married to Sun Wukong's VA in real life, Michael Jones.
Your enthusiasm for this show, especially these early episodes, gives me life! I really hope you have success continuing this, I'm really loving how much you enjoy it and how joyfully you engage with it!
Elijah squealing over Blake is everything I need in my life and more. Also that Sun and Blake vs Torchwick scene gags me every. single. time with how sick it is.
- Vale is the kingdom that Beacon is in. - most faunus have either an animal tail or ears, but though less common, they can have other features instead (horns/antlers for example) - Penny is a fan favourite character. She's adorably quirky. - yeah, RWBY episodes did not have a huge lead time between making them and posting them, so sometimes they get some really wonky animation. Especially in the early volumes. - Yeah, if you go back there are SDC snowflake symbols on a lot of the crates in that train. Weiss also mentioned 'Boardmembers _executed_' - Roosterteeth did include a few hints that Blake was actually a catgirl. a couple times her bow twitched (though that's more obvious in retrospect) - No, Penny is not a Faunus, but she is oddly observant. A bit strange in how she applies those observations admittedly. - fun fact: Ruby's comment about Blake liking tuna was improved (Lindsey, Ruby's voice actress, apparently tried several different lines before they settled on that one) - Much like Ruby in episode 1, if you watch closely, Penny is only hitting the goons with the blunt side of her swords (because she doesn't want to kill them) - Yeah, a faunus with animal ears also has regular human ears as well. (which presumable means they have really good hearing) - You are not the first Reactor I've seen that had conflicted reactions to Evil Fire Lady. 😉 - Once more, I highly recommend checking out the Vol 1 Soundtrack, even if you don't make a reaction video for it. the music is awesome. - Reminder, episode 1 of each volume is a cold opening, jumping straight into the episode, with the new Opening shown at the end of the episode. - Vol 2 Ep 1 is a fan favourite, you'll see why soon. 😁
Volume 1 and 2 are full of funky animation moments like Blake's walk in 'The Stray'. For the most part it was just one person animating volume 1 and not many more for volume 2. So we get some amazing animation and a handful of possibly drunk or zero sleep for several days frames. ^_^
There was more than one person animating volume 1, it's just that they had a really small team and a low budget because Rooster Teeth hadn't done a really successful original show yet and had to be cautious, even with Monty's name on it. It's just the fight scenes were animated solely by either Monty Oum or Shane Newville, while the rest of the show was animated by the team. Some stuff was animated with motion capture. For example, Jaune trying to convince Weiss to join his team was mocapped by his voice actor. Also, apparently, they didn't add physics until volume 2, so if I'm interpreting that right, that means things like hair, clothes, the ribbon on Blake's weapon, etc in volume 1 were hand animated.
Torchwick had human goons with him the first time, the ones from the Yellow trailer. If you watch it again you can see him in the club. Blake also had no idea he was working with the White Fang, suggesting this is a new development.
Volume 2 will be so much fun. It feels like one of those volumes that's never mentioned as a top favourite, but it has some really good moments, some nice character development, and one of the best 1st chapters from the entire series!
Spoiler free And now for the last character introductions of Volume 1. The monkey Faunus is Sun Wukong, based on, well, Sun Wukong from the Chinese novel Journey to the West and voiced by Achievement Hunter’s Michael Jones, partner of Lindsay Jones. The other character is Penny Polendina, voiced by Taylor McNee. Additional Voices: Burnie Burns as Police Officer 1 Joel Heyman as Police Officer 2 Isaiah Torres as Sailor 1 Daniel Fabelo as Sailor 2 Chris Martin as White Fang Goon Alan Abdine as Penny’s Driver
And Penny is based on Pinocchio, which is why her swords are on strings that she can use to basically puppeteer them in the air. The strings are so thin that they look invisible from a distance, as if her swords have no strings to hold them down!
@@Marcmarcmomarc It's not a spoiler. The episode Black and White literally shows the strings straightening out and having light reflecting on them when she starts to pull the airship down, and it even gives the strings a high pitched sound effect.
@@DaemiaChirabys You make a good point, but when people think of Penny alluding to Pinocchio, they think less about her strings and more about her wanting to be a “real girl” that comes later down the road, which I can’t reveal yet, if that makes sense. The strings aren’t the straight-up revelation of her allusion, they’re simply foreshadowing that revelation. It’d be like saying Pyrrha’s death isn’t a spoiler because she’s named after a pyrrhic victory. And this won’t be the last time I initially leave out a character’s allusion due to spoilers (Ironwood, Tyrian, Hazel, Raven, Maria, Fria, Little, and the Jabberwalker).
@20:53 Elijah: I'm having a moment and it's not fair. Me: Girl, same, except in my case it was her voice that got me. Between this and Blake (because EVERYBODY loves the other three more than her for whatever reason), Elijah, much like myself, has officially swooned over my two favorite characters in the series, and I feel hella validated.
I don't remember what engine they were using for Volume 01, I wanna say Poser. It gave them (CREWBY) a lot of limitations and I think animating the Faunus with more than one physical animal trait was difficult for them, so they settled with one trait. I think Miles Luna spoke his regrets on it.
The fact that you are probably the first person I've seen watch this and not immediately peg Penny as a character is amazingly interesting to me. I'm very much looking forward to seeing if you get to a certain episode in Volume 2 and how you react to that then. Keep guessing and see what is coming. Glad you are enjoying the show.
I would also recommend listening to the Volume soundtrack after each finale, because the songs actually offer small bits of insight into the characters!
I’ve done a lot of binging of this series after Elijah starting reacting to it and I can confidently say that I absolutely cannot wait for her reactions to this series 🎉
A note for you, there is an instance in episode 8 when Blake and Yang are at the ruins and Ruby is taking from the sky where Blake's "bow" twitches. She was so surprised to see Ruby that she forgot herself and her ears twice in surprise.
I never noticed the blake walk and now that i did i think meant for her to lile storm off angerily walk but again its the first volume so it turned out like that lol
- I love the adorable stomach pop from Blake to Yang, such a small thing but says plenty about their comfortable-ness already xD - The cat ears reveal reaction is just -chef's kiss- xD - The reaction to little Blake xD - I love the attention to details and comprehension, cause she nails the Black trailer ending xD - Mystery bad woman has Jessica Nigri as her VA just tossing that in there xD
Did you know that most of the characters in RWBY are all actually allusion to other characters in different stories and legends? Eg. Ruby - Little Red Riding Hood Yang - Goldilocks Blake - Belle (Beauty and the Beast) Weiss Schnee (German translation for White Snow)
I am so absolutely delighted by how much Blake's cat ear reveal floored you. Your reaction to that was wonderful, Blake is a favorite character of mine.
Already watched the full thing on Patreon, but I love watching your reactions so much I make sure to tune in to rewatch when you post the UA-cam versions, especially for this one because I was so stoked to see you react to the reveal of Blake being a faunus after you immediately picked up on her bow being cat-eared shaped early on. (Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Blake shares the same voice actor (Arryn Zech) with Black Swan from the Honkai: Star Rail ad you reacted to.)
Man Roman is so cool, easily best villain in the show and possibly my favorite character. Love the fight here, throwing down with one hell of a power couple in the form of Blake and sun, it goes to show how competent he really is.
I haven't seen where anyone has mentioned it, but the term "Faunus" as used in the show has an analog in our language. "Fauna" refers to the animal life in a given region. The word has its roots in Latin; the Romans had a pair of woodland Gods -- brother and sister named Faunus and Fauna -- and their goat-legged attendants were called fauns. Like you, I was puzzled at first as to why Blake only had cat ears, and not the tail, but apparently, it's the lore of the shore that with few exceptions, Faunus will only have a single physical characteristic taken from their animal heritage. Oh, and it's as common as not that Faunus with animal ears will have human ears as well. Artistic decision, apparently.
A bit of trivia. The models for the two new characters in the post-credit scene weren't ready when they made this episode, so they are effectively cardboard cutouts. Look closely and you will see they don't move.
Your reaction to Blake's cat ears is everything I was expecting and hoping for. Time to accept catgirls are your spirit animal :P Also maaan, Cinder is here... Now it's time for things to kick off, Volume 2 onwards is gonna be a wild ride, can't wait for your reactions to them!
I also have 4 ears on my vutuber model and there is a logic to it Human ears are for casual coversation as animal ears will be easily overstimulated by coversation Animal ears are for the hightened senses and used when trying to listen to the environment/world around you It is easy for the brain to subconsiously switch between which is activley being used at the moment
I gotta say, I actually do like the later Volumes as the show goes on but there is a charm to the show's early seasons. Everything from the character models/animation, to the story, to the voice acting. Everything just feels a bit more laid back even during a fight scene and there's a sense of optimism in every episode. I've been really enjoying the reactions Elijah and I can't wait to see more! Also, to answer your question, yes! Some Faunus do have two sets of ears! Originally it was just a behind the scenes thing. They felt it was just easy to put animal ears on a human model, but as the show went on they decided to just roll with it. RWBY: Chibi actually makes fun of this in one episode.
Fun fact! There are moments prior to these episodes where you could see Blake's bow moving cause her ears moved underneath. It's subtle but it's there!
I like that the White Fang soldiers lower their weapons and look embarrassed when Blake asks them why they're helping Torchwick. Joint operation or no, they can't possibly be happy to work with a human who orders them around and calls them animals.
If elijah had a nickel for every time her favorite character was a cat girl she'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
Been waiting for this reaction since you started this series, and it did not disappoint! 😸😹 This is one of my favorite series, and I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
Omg, I can't wait to see the reaction! I'm always so excited when I see a new video about RWBY, the show has recently become a hyperfixation of mine, so it's always so enjoyable to see others watch through the show for the first time :3.
I absolutely *lost* it when you commented that her bow looks kinda like cat ears before. I've so been looking forward that that particular reveal. As for her having human ears as well as cat ears, bunny girl also has human ears along with her animal feature (I don't *think* I'm misremembering that).
You’re gonna LOVE Penny! She’s so cute 🥰 Also I’ve had beef with the “Human and Cat ears” design situation since the beginning. My friends hate that I dislike it lmao
Just like how the four trailers were important for establishing backstory and whatnot, you should also watch the supplemental stuff (Like the "World of Remnant" shorts) and the character shorts for future seasons. Some of those won't be for awhile, but just thought I would give you a heads up. Also, we got to see two new weapons: Penny's Swords are collectively called Floating Array, and Sun's gunchucks are called Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang (because he's based off of Son Wukong).
Fun facts for the new cast in these episodes. Penny is voiced by Taylor McNee, who is quite a sweetheart and makes videos about keeping beta fish. The monkey lad, Sun Wukong, is named for the monkey king from Journey to the West. He’s voiced by Michael Jones, husband of Ruby’s voice Lindsay, and formerly one of the main participants in Rooster Teeth’s gaming channel Achievement Hunter. They have two daughters, Iris and Luna. The two cops are voiced by Burnie Burns, one of RT’s founders, and Joel Heyman, another former founder and also Dr Oobleck’s voice.
Elijah: I couldn't possibly love Blake more.
Blake: Hold my bow.

- Once more, I highly recommend checking out the Vol 1 Soundtrack, even if you don't make a reaction video for it. the music is awesome.
- Reminder, episode 1 of each volume is a cold opening, jumping straight into the episode, with the new Opening shown at the end of the episode.
- Vol 2 Ep 1 is a fan favourite, you'll see why soon. 😁

God it’s so fun watching someone has fun watching RWBY for the first time
Cant wait for Penny my third fav character 💚
Same for me.
She’s my second fav💚
@@tvnerd2007 She's my fav in general
@@antjuanuzumaki1977 cool, I love seeing Penny love
SALUTATIONS fellow Penny fans
Blake having a sad emotional moment.
Elijah: "AHHH wook at her widdle cat ears!!!"
Danny Motta scream: "THIS IS NOT THE TIME!!!"
19:29 how that works is elegantly visualized in an episode of RWBY Chibi. :)
Whew so glad you now know Blake's a faunus, I was struggling to keep it in when you made that comment about Blake's bow looking like cat ears wayback
"I don't need you to be the new one!" Yeah, too late. By the time you know for sure about Blake it's already FAR too late to escape her hold!
Volume 2 will be so much fun. It feels like one of those volumes that's never mentioned as a top favourite, but it has some really good moments, some nice character development, and one of the best 1st chapters from the entire series!
If villain bad, why hot?
Spoiler free
And now for the last character introductions of Volume 1.
Additional Voices:
Burnie Burns as Police Officer 1
Joel Heyman as Police Officer 2
Isaiah Torres as Sailor 1
Daniel Fabelo as Sailor 2
Chris Martin as White Fang Goon
Alan Abdine as Penny’s Driver
And Penny is based on Pinocchio, which is why her swords are on strings that she can use to basically puppeteer them in the air. The strings are so thin that they look invisible from a distance, as if her swords have no strings to hold them down!
@@DaemiaChirabys That’s a spoiler, and Elijah’s conclusion wasn’t “she’s a robot”, so I can’t reveal that yet.
@20:53
Elijah: I'm having a moment and it's not fair.
Me: Girl, same, except in my case it was her voice that got me.
Between this and Blake (because EVERYBODY loves the other three more than her for whatever reason), Elijah, much like myself, has officially swooned over my two favorite characters in the series, and I feel hella validated.
10:20 Elijah realizing she has a type.
I don't remember what engine they were using for Volume 01, I wanna say Poser. It gave them (CREWBY) a lot of limitations and I think animating the Faunus with more than one physical animal trait was difficult for them, so they settled with one trait. I think Miles Luna spoke his regrets on it.
When you initially said that her bow looked like cat ears a few episodes ago I lost my shit, I'm so glad you remembered making that connection.
This series has so many banger character designs. The baddie at the end is great, and we haven't even met my favorite yet
At 10:19 is the big reveal in case anyone was wondering. I definitely enjoyed her reaction to it!
Two of the best episodes in my opinion, glad to see all the love for Blake
Is it weird that I love how much Elijah loves Blake?
- I love the adorable stomach pop from Blake to Yang, such a small thing but says plenty about their comfortable-ness already xD
- The cat ears reveal reaction is just -chef's kiss- xD
- The reaction to little Blake xD
- I love the attention to details and comprehension, cause she nails the Black trailer ending xD
- Mystery bad woman has Jessica Nigri as her VA just tossing that in there xD
Been very sick so far this week but this will definitely cheer me up!
Did you know that most of the characters in RWBY are all actually allusion to other characters in different stories and legends?
Eg.
Ruby - Little Red Riding Hood
Yang - Goldilocks
Blake - Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Weiss Schnee (German translation for White Snow)
I am so absolutely delighted by how much Blake's cat ear reveal floored you. Your reaction to that was wonderful, Blake is a favorite character of mine.
"It's also a gun."
Also - gun-chucks. The weapons in this show are fantastic!
don't feel bad. I'm sure a lot of people had a "She's Evil! But she's also hot." when they saw her.
She’s gonna lose it in the later volumes as Blake starts showing more cat features / actions
I'm so glad you enjoyed Volume 1, and I'm really interested to see how you like the first episode of Volume 2.
Omg I can't believe you're already through season 1! Also your love for Blake's kitty ears was delightful :D
I don't know how versed you are in the cosplay scene, but our Big Bad at the end is voiced by Jessica Nigri, with this being her first VA role!
Finally we’re at the v1 finale!! I knew she was gonna love these episodes as soon as she expressed her obsession with Blake
A bit of trivia. The models for the two new characters in the post-credit scene weren't ready when they made this episode, so they are effectively cardboard cutouts. Look closely and you will see they don't move.
Your reaction to Blake's cat ears is everything I was expecting and hoping for.
Time to accept catgirls are your spirit animal :P
Also maaan, Cinder is here... Now it's time for things to kick off, Volume 2 onwards is gonna be a wild ride, can't wait for your reactions to them!
I also have 4 ears on my vutuber model and there is a logic to it
Human ears are for casual coversation as animal ears will be easily overstimulated by coversation
Animal ears are for the hightened senses and used when trying to listen to the environment/world around you
It is easy for the brain to subconsiously switch between which is activley being used at the moment
MOAR!
Youre going to love V2. Holy crap i cant wait for you to get to volume 2.
11:15 I have waited for your reactions to this show, I have time to wait for the other episodes but this one right hear was worth waiting for
😂😂😂😂😂 yes same ….. ELIJAHS REACTIONS ARE ALWAYS THE BEST , ANOTHER CAT GIRL ADDED TO HER LIST HAHAHAHAHAAH
My mood got boosted as soon as the vid popped up on my timeline 🤩
I have been WAITING for this reaction since Elijah mentioning Blake’s bow looking like cat ears!!!! Ahhhhhhh
😸😹 This is one of my favorite series, and I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
the song that plays during the end scenes is literally my favorite I love Blake sm
I'm so happy Blake is your favorite character in RWBY 😊😊😊 (cuz me too).
The reaction on Blake's cat ears haha :D I hope it stays at 2 episodes for 1 video in the future~
She has no idea how much Blake is going to ruin her entire life.
Now you know Part One of the reason people loved how much you adored Blake! As for Part Two...don’t worry I’m not gonna spoil it!
You’re gonna LOVE Penny! She’s so cute 🥰
Also I’ve had beef with the “Human and Cat ears” design situation since the beginning.
Worst part of volume 1 reactions:
Having to pretend Penny doesn't exist until the end of V1.
