I think you have nailed it. This is one of those songs that encapsulates everything about Zeppelin. And it highlights Jimmy's skill as a producer as well. He's not "just a guitarist" Zeppelin is my favourite band of all time, and this is probably my favourite song. It almost makes me tear up every time
This really is one of the bestest rock songs of all time. I think it's Zeppelin's best. The opening guitar chords are seemingly orchestrated to draw tears from our eyes and then the song just gets more interesting from there. Will we ever hear the likes of Zep (Beatles, Stones, Floyd, etc..) again? In our lifetime? I dunno.
February 24, 1975.......yeah almost 50 years.I was only 15 and I couldn't wait for this album to come out.Me and my friend thought we were Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. We were legends in our own mind🤣
@@donniefleming9914 Stellar imaginings!😁 Bit more recently, I was boppin’ to a Boogie With Stu, and then only last week I got lost in a ‘75 video of a live Bron-Y-Aur Stomp at Earls Court. I guess I have a lifelong Led Zep habit.
@@donniefleming9914 Well I’ve been to Earls Court, so that part’s OK. The rest I just have to fuel with wistful imaginings. All I know is I’ve been back to watch that video quite often, and it feels like watching something magical happen. Always leaves me happy.
1st time I ever spoke with my wife (to be at the time) this song was playing in her background. Met her the next day and we've never parted. It's been our song ever since. It will be 33 years of romantic and emotional marital ecstasy on September 1.😊 Thanks guys.
Near the end when Plant is singinging 'Ten years gone, still holdin' on, Ten Years Gone....Listen to those gorgeous guitar cries. They could make a dried up boulder in the desert start crying.
Oh, man. Carol, did you know that Robert Plant is 6'2" tall? It's hard to tell by concert footage. But he's a tall man. Perfect lead singer. And, Lord, Carol, if you went back through time, Plant would have fell in love with you, married you, and gave you five children! No doubt! He would have seen that you're too beautiful for words! You would have mesmerized him as you mesmerize all of us watching! More Led Zep!! Please!!! Thank you!!!!❤❤❤
Oh, jeez. No offense to Elie. I didn't know you two were married. Elie, brother, you might just be the luckiest man in the world! I'm very happy for you two! And keep playing Led Zeppelin!!! Best rock&roll band in the world!!!!
For me, this is one of those songs where I dim the lights, sit back in the chair, grab a glass of my favorite bourbon🥃 and just chill with the vibe. Glad you got to this one, of my all time faves! Btw, trying to pick a favorite Led Zeppelin song is like trying to pick a favorite child!
This song is about a girl Robert Plant was dating before he became part of Led Zeppelin and famous. She gave him an ultimatum, her or music. He obviously chose music. The rest is history, and the world is a better place for that choice.
I figure with this relationship, he had to be about 16 or 17. Robert & Maureen were married on November 9,1968, & dated about 2 years before marriage. I’d say a young first love, so glad he made the right choice.
Y'all be careful and I hope you are in the north of your country. Y'all are two beautiful people that are loved by many over here in America. Be safe and God bless. 🙏
Yes we are Christians living in Christians areas in Beirut but it's not safe if an all out war breaks out :/ thank youu you're so thoughtful ❤️ bless you 🙏
Given that Physical Graffiti has Kashmir, In my time of dying and In the Light...This is by far the greatest guitar extravaganza committed to vinyl by Mr. Page. That it is a slow emotional ballad, albeit with crazy guitar harmonies and a vocal line to die for, is just a bonus. They wrote The Rain Song because George Harrison said they didn't do ballads, this one proves that not only do they do ballads, they do them better than pretty much everyone else. Thank you for your reactions...watching the young lady falling in love with Mr. Plant is sooo sweet.
The talents and genius of the members of Zeppelin on disc two with “In The Light,” “Ten Years Gone,” “The Wanton Song” and others feel fresh today because many of us wore out disc one back in the day. Great stuff guys… but go back and uncover all of the lyrics. ✨
One of their best albums! Great to see you exploring more & more Zeppelin. Remember sliding the insert of the album in/out to change what appears in the windows of the building. Lots of different variations just like Zeppelin themselves. No tune the same. Every tune special. Stay safe guys. 🙌🏼
Great reactions and good to have you onboard. Hey Elie, good ear for good drummers, that being John Bonham, one of the greatest. Especially appreciate the enthusiasm for Zep from you two. You help carry on the music I heard with my brothers and sister, and even parents (the mellow tunes) . I loved it from 10 to 58 yrs old. My 84 HS yearbook I state; Zeppelin Forever.
I have so many "favorite" Zeppelin songs it's impossible to pick one but this song is usually the first one that pops up in my mind. This one and Thank You are true masterpieces.
This is one of the very few songs you will ever hear that transports you back in time embracing a nostalgia of your past in such an authentically beautiful way that it literally gives you goosebumps. Like the feeling you get when you go through old family photos from way back.
I am happy to see you two again. The news being the news, always brings me worry and concern for you both. The relief and joy of knowing you are safe and free is powerful. I hope that Carol heals quickly and that you both enjoy good health for many years to come. I generally like listening to this track, and a few other Zeppelin songs like it, when I am reading, or doing some housework, almost like being confined to the indoors and making the best of it with some gentle rock and roll from the band while Robert reads poetry. I can jump in at any time with my attention or I can fade out for thoughts of someone else, but never have to adjust to the song because of my addle-mindedness, instead, it just accepts me when I am there with it. Another great reaction from you both. Wishing you well from across the pond.
Physical Graffiti was the first Zep album I got in 1976 when I was 14. At first I hated it, then grew to love it to the point I had to buy ALL of Zep’s albums up until then and afterwards!
I always love the fact that you never really know how each song will sound, even though you know it will sound like only Led Zeppelin can sound. Beautiful song great reaction. I've only been a fan of Led Zeppelin since I was ten i am now sixty two.
What's amazing about Led Zep is they released eight albums in just 10 years from 1969 to 1979 until John Bonham's death at age 32 in 1980. Their ninth album Coda was released after Bonham's death and after the band had broken up. Page put it together in the studio to fulfill contractual obligations but none of it was new material. How amazing that these four guys created all of this amazing music in just 10 years from their early 20's to early 30's. Just crazy amount of talent in this band.
You guys have checked out a lot of Zepellin songs now. And they haven't missed yet. You're learning that they could do pretty much any genre. If you want a more funky tune, react to Trampled Under Foot, also off the Physical Graffiti album. Guaranteed to make you want to dance.
Led Zeppelin were masters of setting a mood, and this song is a great example - its tempo and instrumentation match the mood of the lyrics, which reflect on our passage through life and relationships. I love the way the opening instrumentation causes/guides the listener to slow down and just take the music in.
It is one of their most beautiful songs, was originally supposed to be an instrumental, until Plant wrote the lyrics. About a young love that wanted him to chose, her or his music. Lucky us he chose his music.
One of the best reactions on UA-cam ever. Your two open hearts are beautiful to some of the greatest music ever made. One of the greatest songs ever made.
Comes in like a gentle summer zephyr and so calming, then the band lift it all up, always loved the solo on this track and Jimmy's guitar throughout, another Zep classic but apparently they struggled to play it live.
This really is their finest song. It does have all the elements that make a great Zeppelin song. You can tell at the 3:07 mark in the video when it gets them... it is this same spot that always gets me. That one moment, to me, is the peak of Led Zeppelin, they never got higher up the mountain than at that moment.
"Picking a Led Zeppelin song is no easy task". That sums it up really. Thanks for helping to introduce this to a new generation. I think that we were a bit complacent back then, as if this was normal.
Nice to see both of you back on. This album was recorded during the time Robert Plant was recovering from an accident that almost cost him his life. Some of his best lyrics are on this album. His reflection album I believe. Stay safe and keep the Zeppelin flowing. I’m enjoying that you are playing their catalog.
