My buddy played guitar and I sang SHAVING CREAM, for an audition for a 1982 High School show. And the school counselor in charge of the show said that we could not be in the show, as the song was 'dirty'
What's so dirty about shaving cream? The school counsellor wasn't nice and clean, and probably didn't look keen🤭
Your counselor overreacted
Sounds like he was having a fit
But there were no words that were dirty
So you called him out on his
SHAVING CREAM
Be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen!
😅😅o😅

This comment is pure sh...aving cream
Be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen
🤭
Well, there was an *attempt* to curse in it, and that would have rhymed, too, but the chorus interrupted it.
Apperantly naked girls cant be heard in a song because benny bell did mention his girlfreind in the song.
What bullshhhhhaving cream be nice and clean shave every day and you'll always look keen.
I was born in 66 and this song was so funny as a 10 year old, cant believe I found it.....remember walking to school with my buddies singing it and laughing so hard. Good times.
Young boys,
and songs like this are like steel to a magnet! I remember first hearing it as a pre-teenager and not being able to stop laughing!!
I have 4 brothers, when we first heard this song we all tried to remember the verses and started singing it so much that it almost drove my Mother crazy. After she had enough she outlawed the song so we just started humming the tune. Then she had to outlaw that too. What a fun time I had with this song over the years - thanks for making it available.
😆👍🍻
Hahaha!! ❤
This song should be performed in America’s Got Talent
As a sing-along! 😉🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everybody used to sing this all together in my college cafeteria -- at every meal!
I remember hearing this goofy song on "The Dr. Demento Show " as a kid in the mid-1970's.
Bless that man for all the oddball awesomeness he has introduced us to.
Born in 38still going this song brings back memories
Recorded 1946. Always a fav on the Dr. Demento Show - unforgettable.
Good ole' Benny Bell! I remember when they used to play this on WFIL am Philadelphia in 1975 when I was growing up. I went out and got the 45 rpm with my allowance that week and it was a riot at our house! I remember playing it for the first time for my dad and he absolutely LOVED it! Good times! Thank you Benny Bell!
I remember this. The 1970’s were full of novelty songs
@@markkrull556 if you remember the 70's, you weren't really there. 👍
@@masondixon2675 I was a youngster, but I was definitely there
@@markkrull556 was past being a youngster, but too stoned to remember.
I listened to WFIL in 1975 too. (I remembered this ditty from Dr. Demento, which may have been on WMMR-FM?)
We used to sing this while taking the school bus on field trips.
Memories.😊
I remember listening to this on the Larry Lujack morning show on WLS AM-890 (The Rock of Chicago) in 1975 before school, and actually taking NOTES so I could be the first to sing it to my friends at school. By the time I got my paper and pencil, the only one I got was "When I was in France with the Army..." The kids howled. The nuns scowled. It was worth being late.
You, sir are absolutely right about this! I say this as a Christian myself, who therefore believes that healthful
skepticism must go hand in hand with faith and trust in Almighty God (Gospel Of Matthew, 7: 15-23)!!
Holy crap! I had this song on a 45 (single on vinyl for a record player for you youngsters) back in the 70's when I was a teenager. What memories.
So now this is in my watch history
Yep😩
You know you came here on purpose
Be proud, be proud.
You chose this when you clicked on the video. As did we all.
in your 🧠forever hehe
i was born in 1965 and i remember my dad singing this when i was 10 years old.
i didn’t understand why it was funny back then and at no point did he help to clarify the pun. but this memory has been stuck in my head since childhood so it was nice to hear this in its entirety
Yes. A fun radio song at 10.
That's a great memory. Never forget those moments.
I love that song my sister showed it to me when I was in my twenties now I'm at 60s I love 😗
This will always be an evergreen hit.
I can’t believe this song actually exists. My childhood friend used to sing verses of it and I just thought he was funny. I’m getting closer to 50 each day and this is the first time I ever thought to look for it.
Now I have other songs to look for…
Thank you for uploading this and reminding me of some of my fondest childhood memories.
i first time i heard this was at a family party at my Aunt & Uncles , every time we went there he would play it , thank you for the laughs uncle George.
Recorded in 1946-It reached the top forty in the spring of 1975-Classic novelty record-By the way,the vocalist wasn't Benny but Paul Winston aka:Paul Wynn.
Hilarious!!
Ah, memories! I remember this being a hit on the am rock n roll radio station.
Maybe 73? 74? Right before the fm stations really broke out.
Reached the top 40 in 1975.
I think Dr. Demento played this on his novelty program often.
his only top 40 hit, reaching #30 on the pop charts in 1975!!!
In 1975, he was 69 years old.
i was born 1962 and just heard of this for the 1st time from my brother david ,like,a month ago!
Yes! Just heard it on a replay from "Casey Kasem American Top Forty" from April 1975! Totally forgot this 💎 gem! 🤣🤯😜
I have never heard this song before, but it's pretty catchy 👌 😁
I forgot all about this song, genius comedy.

My class just sung this and played ukulele to it the other day
This song makes me grateful I use an electric razor.
Well, at least you'll never fall into a pile of sh...aving cream.😂😂😂
I remember hearing this at a farmers market \ flea market and a nice black man who was like in his late 70s and that made that day so perfect I almost cried
The original "assumption" song.
When I Was In France With The ARMY , One Day I Looked Into My Kit... ;)
I thought I would find me a sandwich.
@@cryogenic_sleep4795 Unfortunately I was disappointed to find only a foaming soap for depilitation.

Those were the days my friends for sure!
I'm taking a Shh... having cream.
Be nice and clean.
Thank you school for showing me this.
This song is a take-off of the Sweet Violet Boys song from 1935, 'Sweet Violets' which had the same basic melody and the "shhh..." switch off to the song title 'Sweet Violets' like the later Benny Bell number from 1946. Both are a scream!! :)
Dude I stepped in a pile of shhhiaving crem
Step in a noice pile of SH... aving cream
I was 11 when I heard this song
Same 😂
RIP Al Warren who used to play this on WICC600

It’s weird. Every time he said, “shaving cream,” I thought he was going to say something else.
It's what's called a tease -- you make people think you're going to say something naughty, then say something else. By the way, Benny Bell actually recorded songs that were "blue" in his day. Had he actually said what you think he was going to say in this song, it would've been considered to be "blue" as well. And it never would've made it into the top 40!
Yeah that’s what it implies but without having to say it! The radio station (in Tempe, Arizona) practically every morning before high school (1970’s) 👍🏼
What’s weird is that you got 2 people to actually bite on your ridiculous statement with an explanation.
Wow. Just wow.
I'm up to the second knuckle and I still haven't found anything.
