As a professional bathroom remodeler and plumber who installs mud shower pans etc. I can’t even watch this video on the things I don’t like about this product. You’re losing foot space In the shower. Secondly since you have to shim out the wall you then have to put the plumbing in a different spot which may be a problem as well. Another thing of concern is that the Cement board will be leaning up against that drain and with expansion and contraction it may move that drain. Don’t even get me started on using A fernco-fitting. I prefer it to be all glued for future peace of mind for myself and the customer. And good luck snaking out that drain without damaging that tile right above it.

We appreciate your input. We have forwarded your concerns to the manufacturer and here is their response:

Leslie, thank you for your feedback; however, furring out of the shower wall is the most popular installation method with this product. The second method that installers and homeowner have used is providing a header above the drain body, similar to a door or window jamb to eliminate a need for furring the wall. And a third option is to use 12” version of the wall recessed drain to fit between existing studs. The Drain Manufacturer will be releasing a pre-sloped shower tray system for all sizes of DUW-Series. As far as the concern within cement board and drain connection, the drain body is secured to the studs and will not allow movement of the drain body, and the drain return flange that the wallboard sits on allows for flush waterproofing connection between the board and drain body. The use of PVC Flexible coupling is a standard connection between stainless steel and PVC pipes under most local Plumbing codes. Please refer to your local governing codes for the recommended connection methods. AS far as cleanout is concerned, the drains have built-in cleanout access points behind removable tile in-tray, which allows for ease of clean without damage to surrounding tile or stone. We highly encourage you or anyone else to put this product to the test. Once again, thank you for your feedback. "
