Excellent video! I used Pro Press for the first time at the beginning of the year when I was helping out a plumber for a couple months renovate hotels. The beauty of the Pro Press system is a semi-skilled laborer (like myself) was able to was able to work side-by-side a master plumber In a commercial setting, ASAP because the learning curve of using this tool is extremely low. This video shows importance the importance of pressing your fittings in the order that allows your Pro Press to fit. Marking your fittings after you’re done press the numbers extremely important to which they show! Another tip I learned from seeing other people make this mistake, it’s cleaning off pipe with sandpaper that has oxidation or that green or black stuff built on it. Your O-ring won’t get a proper sail to the pipe itself, because it would be sitting on that(whatever that buildup is) stuff that’s on the pipe.
Commercial-press fit Domestic-solder Personally hate press fit and you'll generally find your knuckle dragging labradors doing it on some sites to save a few £££
years ago when press fit was being pushed i worked in a big commercial building in the city , a well known builder was using one floor as a base for a build down the road ...they wanted to add a first aid room with a sink and a tea point ...they spoke to Hilti who gave them a press fit so they didn't have to fill out the RAMS etc and turn off smoke heads all the palaver that comes with commercial buildings i was friendly with the chief site engineer and he was telling me about it all so we went and had a look , the polish plumber didn't read the instructions on either the gun or the fittings and went at it like poles do and the leaks were every where ....they decided it was shit i however was adding a tea point in the basement and asked if i could borrow the tool this saving hire fees and possible cost i read the instructions and proceeded as you did with marking and checking before pressing , it worked wonderfully and i haven't looked back i STILL have that old hilti !!!

If memory serves you only get the warranty on Geberit fittings if you go on their course. Pressed up to 76mm on copper and never had a leak in the 11 years I’ve done it apart from a small drip on a 54mm fitting that I re-pressed and it stopped. Great stuff. Love that you can have water in the pipe and no hot works permit if you’re doing commercial/industrial. Yet to be convinced on longevity considering it has an o ring but time will tell!
Nice Vid again thx Pete! In my opinion solering is better (lower flow resistance if you band pipes) and cheeper. Unfortunately here in Germany we use Pressfit since 15+ Jeahrs in any case. It´s all about being fast nomater what it costs. Before i begin a job my boss alredy asks when i´m done.. .Most apprentice don´t even learn how to solder anymore because you´re not fast enougth and because it´s "dangerous" (fire, fumes etc.). keep up the good work;)
I can See odd applications for this, but after fifty years in the trade, I won’t be throwing my blow lamp away anytime soon. A properly made solder joint is there for the life of the system.
Probably not for domestic but in commercial it's been the standard for the last 10/15 years. Much quicker and much less to go wrong but on the downside tooling and calibration is expensive as well as fittings.
@@SammyInnit Hi Sam, sadly I see it as de skilling the trade, no pipe threading or soldering in the larger sizes, and little use of bending machines over 28mm. I’m shure this takes some skill and pride away from the job.
We use MLCP pipe where it's not visible, ideal for threading through holes drilled in joists instead of notching. I notice that the notches have to be a bit deeper to accommodate the fitting. MLCP pipe also good for running in plastic ducting through screed. I'm old hat, still use solder joints where visible, using a heat mat and risk assessing when needed. I think copper press fittings have their place and can be useful when needed. MLCP doesn't creak like copper which needs hair felt on each joist, gas torch and hair felt hmmm another subject. Good video.
Another great video. Well done. Not sure if anyone else having problem but every time I go looking for tools P.B has recommended there sold out. Which is great sometimes so don’t buy them have got some of the tools has recommended and there great. Well done again
After working as a breakdown engineer for 10 years but now working self employed, my soldering is not the neatest. I think I’d be tempted to use press fit where my pipe work is visible and solder the underfloor out of sight stuff. Just holding off purchasing a press gun due to the cost, I’ll wait until my next scrap metal deposit and use that for some discount off of the gun.
If you're doing enough of it you might be better off renting/hiring. That way you don't have to get it calibrated yourself every 12 months and can give it back if you're not needing for a long period.
just came across this video watched the first 5 minutes nice tidy pipe work was enough for me so i subscribed looking forward to watching all your videos.👍👍👍
Sometimes you need a press tool. To get a particular job done. I did a secondary return yesterday, Using 16-25mm multi-layer. 25mm being the feeder. I have a Novapress 103. U profile jaws are required, for the multi-layer fittings!
The plumber gave me the choice of copper or plastic pipe or plastic where it can't be seen and copper where can be. All the same price. I chose copper /plastic, the warning being mice chew plastic, but plastic can be drilled through the center of a joist where as copper puts a notch in it. Been there for 21 years no leaks problems and is completely silent using a Baxi 105e instant and a Intergas RF 36 ECO for the last 2 years
Nothing wrong with correctly installed plastic under floors and on new builds you can't practically use copper under the floors as modern joists can't be notched.
Press-fittings with V- or M-profile + anaerobic sealant gives us more stronger and hermetic connection of metallic pipes with thinner pipe walls than recommended I think.
My original copper pipe in my house has much thicker walls than the modern copper piping - I'm assuming the original copper is imperial and the modern copper is metric sizing. Are there press fit fittings that fit the original copper pipe and will the press tools work on the original copper piping or does they require different sets of jaws?
We use the viega pressgun 5 Far stronger than any pressgun ive used before Also combined with MaPress fittings (both steel and copper) very lovely good stuff to see mate.
Never used press fittings and tempted to invest in the equipment. My only concern is the o-rings in the fittings. Surely they deteriorate over time the same as push fit plastic fittings would, which then makes putting copper in a waste of time? I’d love to know anyone’s thoughts who has years of experience using these type of fittings? Great vid as always. 👍🏻
The o rings provide a secondary seal. The main seal is made from the mechanical crimp. We have removed the o ring to try this, pressure tested at 10 bar without the o ring in and all is good.

how is cut joinst next please is gravity system or PP system is less 50 % price
did you know that the nova press is actually more power full and a lot of people don't give a warranty on fittings if it fails
Why press fittings instead of solder. Speed ??
Why not putting chalk on the claws to easily find the notpressed?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did u sell your rothenberger press gun
Nah. However you join anything with an O ring involved isn't gonna last. Solder all the way until you get out of the fabric of the building. And if any of that shit is on gas. wait 20 years for the recalls and explosions. This is just expensive diy stuff.
What are the two brass units on the flow and return pipes at the boiler
Glad you asked that
Magnetic filter and deaeration device to take the oxygen out of the water to prevent oxidation inside the pipework
@@AaronM4275 deaireation filter is it really needed ?
@@AaronM4275 wouldn't AAV sort that ?
@@gordonmatkin9388 AAV are only designed to let excess air out of the system to prevent air locks. Deaeartion device removes corrosive properties from the system by deoxygenising the water.
How much are the machines Pete

Expensive 😂 to be fair it's quicker and somewhat easier and absolutely an investment. Usually somewhere between £800 and £1200
It's not quicker than pushfit
In Germany you must insulate pipes 100 percent
