Dear Brent, I can offer my 25 years experience as a carpenter, my tools and some equipment, in exchange for small lot near the main road where I can build a period correct 24 ft x 24 ft cabin to enjoy my retirement . I would return the land and cabin at the time of my death. At one time I considered homesteading in Alaska, but the conditions are just too harsh.
High Desert, Jungle, and Artic survival training may also be handy. Financially secure. Just me, my guitar, and my dog.
Just turned 64 , take no meds and have no issues. I am in top physical condition. I require eyeglasses, that's it .
What needs tending to ?
Thanks, Kevin
@Ghost_Town_Living I wish and hope that you contact him soon and allow him to join your journey.
I mean if you're gonna skip a whole year in the real world, 2020 was the one to pick.
As a “born and raised” high mountain desert girl myself. I’m in Love with the “rough country”. It feeds my soul! The sunsets are so incredible. In the right spot you can see the entire sky full of incredible color! It will always be my “Shire” 🥰
I like the fact that there’s someone out there that has a passion to restore a ghost town to it’s former self , I salute you dude
In my humble opinion this is one of the finest, best narrated, best produced, most informative, and most enjoyable UA-cam channels that also has superior video quality.
He needs to spice up the content though, he’s getting to the point of repeating the same stuff over and over. We don’t need a 13 months at.....14 months at.....15 months at....
@@MichaelRichards983 tbh I love the updates. I'm not subscribed so seeing these little follow up videos really makes my day
@@jtravels6785 I like them too but this is like 4 times in a row with the same updates.
This guy videos is pure entertainment and discovery channel put it together🍿
This whole channel really explores the concept of "one man's trash is another man's treasure" and I love that.
This has been one of the most inspiring videos I’ve seen on UA-cam. I just added visiting your town to my bucket list!
My wife and I have a 5 year plan to move to California so we can volunteer up there on the weekends or any days off we have and help rebuild. I am in love with this town!
I wish I could be a part of something like this. I am 82 years old and years ago I entertained as an old Hillbilly and town drunk. I also did story telling. I would love dying in a place like this and donating all of my old antiques to a preservation of history. Everyone wants everything for free. I would rather see it go back to helping preserve history. I offered my things to Whiskey Town, Ca. and they did not want it because it was not from the area they said. So be it, I will keep it and have my will junk it all.
This entire channel feels like the plot of a video game, you've taken on an abandoned town as a project and over the time that you discover new things, get resources, discover history and restore buildings slowly people would enter the town and you'd continue to build onto the town and discovering it's lost history to make it whole again.
that sounds kind of like darkest dungeon,
minus you know, the lovecraftian shit
That town couldn’t have a better owner. You really appreciate it for what it was and what it will one day be.
He seems like a good guy but he clearly accidently burned down the towns main building..
@@jk2219 It wasn’t in his fault AT ALL, he couldn’t prevent it from happening an fire do too electricity wasn’t his fault, and yes he has done better than all the past owners 1.by collecting the artifacts he finds. 2. By documenting his journey for soon to be the town owner whenever, so people can see his great work, if people want to put him down for that it’s not his fault.
@@jk2219 i hate reading trough his comments, how people blame him for "burning down the hotel" im like wtf, do people really understand how electrical systems works? how it ages, rats or bugs could have been attacking one outlet is enaugh. electrical system isnt dangerous if it stays without load. when you connect an heater to it the fun begins. and this is also how 120v is twice more dangerous than 220v
@@E.Everett I never blamed him I said he accidentally done it, he most likely doesn't have the proper qualifications to know how electricity works and wasn't careful enough, especially in an easily flammable building like that.
Hello Brent, Claire from Melbourne Australia here. I just found you two days ago and I have just binge watched all of you videos. What an inspiration you are. I just love exploring your property and all the treasures you find. I get a bit concerned about you down the mines by yourself. I love the history and can you show more of the photos you have. Cant get enough of you and your amazing attitude about everything.
I wish I could do what you do. But, it's a young mans game. Unlike a lot of YT videos I'm impressed by the amount of effort you put in to accomplish something meaningful. Good job.
Can't imagine life without this channel now. It's fun, full of history and never know what your gonna get next well worth tuning into every week.
To be honest, it helped me go through a lot, and entice me to a be... maybe a better me !
I’ve enjoyed it too but the content needs to be fresh; he shows so much of the same thing over and over and over. It’s getting a little boring.
@@MichaelRichards983 I think if you committed to film and release a video every single week you'd soon realise the struggle of how much of a chore it is. The times you forgot your camera or the pain in the arse the camera is when you juat need to get on sometimes. Start another project until you can stabilize the road. Little by little you have made such a big difference in preserving this ghost town. I know you are not even close. It’s going to be amazing Brett. Thank you for your fascinating videos looking into the past
I grew up in what was a gold mining town in the 1800’s. All around the town were massive piles of tailings. In the 1970’s the town council started selling tailings as fill. As they started carting the tailings away, the skeletons started to be uncovered. Some had met violent deaths (murdered and their bodies hidden in the tailings), others were thought to be from people tunneling looking for gold in the tailings who had been buried alive in collapses. Cerro Gordo may have more surprises yet.
You know he always talks about the 30 miners dead at the 200 level. Thats 30 skeletons for you if he ever finds them
@@GhostTownLiving Gun slingers, mines, no water and you dont expect to find skeletons?
What I like about this channel is that you don't want to be famous or rich or the best youtuber. Your goals aren't getting the most subscribers and the most views. Your goals are rebuilding the town and exploring and in the process taking us along with the ride. That makes this feel really real and genuine. I wish you all the best for the second year.

he sleeps on the garrys mod looking matress in that cabin/shack thing
If it wasn't for you, no one watching would even know this town exist. Now, I feel connected to the town as if I am part of the history.

Really enjoying every minute of this amazing story. You could also make post cards of the town, mine and beautiful scenery around the area and send these to people for a fee after they order them from you, then put the money towards the restoration costs.

Imagine the people of CG in the 1860s, 70s, 80s etc hearing that many many years into the future a guy named Brent would own the town and with the help of thousands and thousands of people/viewers through something called the internet, would keep this town alive. Crazy.
Imagine every restoration channel moving into the town.
Who knows what would happen.
Even for just a week or two, having a team that specializes in restorations would do wonders to that place.
There are many people like myself, who cannot find reputable people to repair their old homes and mobile homes.Impossible to find anyone willing to help. I have enjoyed finding old relics in the property. I find no resorces for folks (esp. the Elderly) to help them get barebones help making their homes barely liveable. For the longest time, I had no front door. Scary.
I think maybe newer codes, etc. Keeps us from saving original structures. I enjoyed this show very much. It gives me hope living in an old unliveable mobile home with no water, power, transportation,...even the belly insulation is totally gone. Chills. You're so right my dear. I often find some people that repeat the history that they had once had before. Sadly many people do not realize that they carry The echoes of their past with them. It's truly brilliant to watch him open up and become a historian. The draw that he has to this land he may never know the life he lived beforehand. But I can guarantee, this man was once a minor in his past. And he's a nursing his own history. Unbeknownst to him. And with what you said, we need each other in this world. Especially now more than ever.
Finding this channel was definitely my highlight of 2020 lol. Can't wait to see where you hang the 1mil subscribers plaque! Here's to another great year.
You really are a gem! The perfect person to own an old silver mine - very inspirational and I love how you find the truth at the heart of things. Nature is so important, and I fear too many (city/urban)folks are so far removed from it that they are quite lost. Your photography and film-making skills are also impressive - considering you'd never made a movie a year ago and many shots are one-handed hanging onto a hundred-year old ladder which may or may not support you for another five minutes! I quite see why people come to help, it's so worth while and will be appreciated. Maybe Lazulite or tempered glass could fit in your loo door, which wouldn't be damaged by the harsh climate? However, sometimes it must get very tough - the extremes, and having to come up with every solution single-handed (more or less!)? Looking forward to seeing how things will be in 3-years time - keep safe & here's to the next 6-months (Sept 5, '21).
I found this channel recently and then my son was talking about it and I told him that I was already aware of it so we do really like watching your Channel! It was so sweet of you to take the cats in! God bless you and keep you safe!

Since he has electricity, incinolets might be the right choice - then you just empty out a tray of ash every week or two. That's what most of the folks who don't have the ability to have running water or septic, but do have electricity, use around here.

Honestly perfect timing on the decision to live in Cerro Gordo full time. You kept freedom during the pandemic and it was a non-factor. Meanwhile so many people tapped in shoebox apartments for an entire year at this point.
Living in a place like this, doing what you do would make my life so much less depressing.

If it wasn't for places like this we wouldn't be where we are today. History is awesome. It's a shame the government and some people want to destroy our history.
You really need a big excavator so you could dig what you need more easily and the combination backhoe and front loader is good but it isn't for things like this it's for small workloads and to clear roads in winter.
I would love to come there and stay a few days and learn the history about the place. Hopefully one day wheb I get some money and a vehicle I could come visit but I can't go into the mines sadly because I can't walk anymore sadly due to my back it has made my legs pretty much useless.
There's so much I want to do in life still but unfortunately can no longer do now.
Keep up the great work and stay safe. Also quick question is there a cell tower anywhere near the town? And is there internet there besides cell internet? You could make deals with companies since you are a legit town they could bring in cell towers and lay fiber internet for you. Also you could make some deals with heavy equipment companies as well as other companies to help with supplying equipment for you and other things you need. Since you have an awesome amount of viewers companies will help you no problem.
Take care
