    Hey everyone welcome back! This week I am teaching you one of my favourite coin vanishes known as the retention vanish. I've broken this move down into three simple steps so you can learn it as fast as possible. The retention coin vanish is pretty easy if you follow the steps I show in the video. It is also super visual, and once you learn it you'll be able to do some amazing magic with nothing more than a coin. Enjoy x

      I'm an accomplished magician, but a poor one, for precisely the same reason as I am a good scientist. The only difference between science and magic is that magic conceals while science reveals. The one thing more rewarding to me, than the look of astonishment on my subject's face, is the look of revalation and sudden understanding when they learn how it is done. Magic that leaves the subject perplexed, is like telling a joke without delivering the punch line. When. I give a public science demonstration, I get the same reaction from my audience as the magician. " Oh

    My favorite thing to do with the “dirty” hand is reach into my pocket for some “magic dust” or a wand, “sprinkle” it over the hand that they think has the coin, then show that the coin disappeared. That’s a great way to clean the dirty hand.

  • @MikkoRantalainen
    @MikkoRantalainen Рік тому +42

    One additional thing worth mentioning is keeping your eyes on the hand with the assumed coin location. Spectators will be looking wherever you're looking so that will guide them to watch to the direction you want.

    Well done man on teaching REAL LIFE!
    When magicians learn a new sleight, move or trick... ALL they ever learn is the SIMULATION of what they're supposed to be doing!
    They never study the REALITY of the situation; 'Actually taking the coin'!!!
    Fundamental? Absolutely!!! But is ALWAYS lacking in magicians' work!
    Bravo for applying this concept into your magic, at your young age!
    BRAVO!!!
    Edit:
    A bit of psychology to apply to Oscar's teachings:

    Once you retain the coin, and it's in 'Finger-tip-rest' DO NOT palm the coin instantly! Freeze the hand with the coin (Relax the arm slightly), but do-not move so-much-as a finger on the 'dirty' hand!!
    Psychology behind this:
    IF the hand was really empty, there would be no biological reason for that hand to move at-all!
    Conclusion:
    Without saying a word, you've convinced the spectator using only 'body-language' you've actually taken the coin, and your other hand really is empty!
    Honestly, I've used these concepts for over 25 years! I've spoken with David Roth, Gary Kurtz and Michael Ammar, plus a 'few' people who 'get-it'...
    Include this in your magic, and it will improve your performance, and give you the strongest magic!
    Lastly: Maybe mention a bit of provenance about each sleight you teach... Whilst you inspire your students enough, a bit of history may intrigue them to discover more on their own...
    My very warmest regards Oscar,
    John M

      I am guessing that one can only be done on camera. I think the way he's doing it is to have the coin held by the fingers making the circle, at just the right angle to be invisible, and then he pushes it through with the other hand.

  • @marklefler4007
    @marklefler4007 Рік тому +26

    Two small improvements: 1. Tilt the hand holding the coin as you pretend to place it in the other hand. This will catch a glint of light which via persistence of vision makes people really believe the coin was placed. 2. you do not need to extend the second finger so much. A smaller movement is much more convincing.

    One of the all time greatest coin magicians - David Roth - did this exact trick EXCEPT for one thing - he thumb palmed the coin. Instead of retaining the coin with your middle finger, slide it up your thumb (as your taking it from your left hand) and thumb palm it. This way, you can spread open your fingers on your right hand.

    My father taught me how to do the french drop to do a similar sleight when I was a kid. I have always been good at it and it comes quite naturally to me. But knowing the trick is not as important as knowing when to do it.
    I don't know how many times I have been in a store and there was a struggling parent with a child that was throwing a tantrum. It is obvious to me that the child is as tired of the tantrum as the parent, but the child does not know how to turn it off. That is where I come in. I approach the parent and ask permission to speak to the child, and the parent will usually give permission. With a flourish I produce the coin and explain that it is a problematic coin. I perform the french drop, and then look about for a spot to put the coin, suddenly deciding that the top of the child's head is the ideal location. I "rub the coin in" for good measure, and then lift my hand away, wide open and obviously empty. The child looks amazed and always checks the top of his head, looking at the parent, who is as amused as the child. I look about for where the coin got off to, and then, with my other hand, produce the coin from behind the child's ear. >POP!< The tantrum is forgotten, and THAT is the true magic. I usually perform the trick one or two more times, and then move on to my shopping. The tantrum is over, parent and child are both happy and getting along, and all is happiness.
    Like I said, I don't know how many times I have done this, but it ALWAYS works.
