  • www.autobytel.c... A booster seat can be comprised of a lower booster portion and an attached high back. The important thing to remember is there are 2 different weight limits depending on when the back is attached or not. The headrests are adjustable and you are aiming to have the shoulder belt at or slightly above the child shoulder level. Booster car seats function the same way as the belt holds the child in the same way as an adult with the lap/shoulder belt combination.

Where does the little red clip go? The seat just flops around. It appears the seat should be attached with a strap under the car seat to keep it from flopping around but this red clip is not what I want to use. The red clip strap looks like it is for the shoulder? Confusion....

I have a question I'm a new mom that will be switching from harness to seat belt soon. How does the highback booster anchor in or stay in place? I feel with just the seat belt used normal the booster would rock and be unsafe.

drakkina08 it doesnt, technically the seat belt is supposed to lock upon impact (due to the force being applied on it by the body moving with impact), preventing the body from being jetted forward or thrown around in an accident. Carseats* need to be anchored in because the child is not being held in place by the car *seatbelt, but rather the straps of the carseat hold the child in place. I was wondering the same thing, but it makes sense to me that it doesn't need to be anchored in. However, I do wonder if they were anchored in if that would be safer, but I'm no engineer or designer or tester of these things! Good luck. Im.moving my 5 yr old into a high back booster today. Drive safe!

drakkina08 I have a tall 3 yr old who is 37 inches and 40 pds
She fits very well in a high back and as long as u are putting the seat belt tightened properly... and if u put the shoulder belt appropriately mid shoulder not near the neck... and lap belt at the lap hip and not the belly - the belt will absolutely keep the high back snug and not moving around.
Thing is teaching ur child not to mess with the belts after u have properly secured them.

Sadly many accidents are cars hitting from behind where your kids are . In those cases the front seat was safer but in all honesty . How do you know ? You cant plan for it .
