i’ve done horseback riding for a while now and here are a few tips! when u walk ur horse, make sure u are right next to them and have ur hand under their chin because for some horses it can be uncomfortable to be dragged like that and it also gives u more control over the horses head just in case the horse spooks. also, when u are riding try to keep ur heels down and keep good posture (for example straighten your back). when ur steering don’t just pull ur elbows in, tighten ur reins a little bit and lift ur arms more, and use the other rein to help steer the horse, and u can also use ur legs to do that! and remember not to whip the reins around the horse has a bit in its mouth so when you throw the reins around it can sometimes be painful for them. also please do not think about buying your own horse it is a hugeee responsibility and you should definitely spend more time with horses before you think about getting a horse. after maybe a year you can start leasing a horse and then go from there but i’ve seen lots of people not have experience with horses and then just buy one which ends up in a disaster for the horse and the owner. sry if that was confusing but i hope this helps! i know that this might just be a little hobby for you so i hope this wasn’t too overwhelming but remember to have fun!

(coming from an equestrian) ok everyone who's talking abt Txu's riding, remember shes a beginner! she was pretty good considering she can only walk and possibly trot a bit!! I understand your trying to help her but shes very new to the sport and I think we should let her trainer do the teaching. Theres no need for her to focus on keeping her heels down or having tight reins, maybe once shes more into trotting and possibly cantering thats a good habit from when your start doing more advanced things like jumping or more dressage but shes only learning the basics and I dont think people should be coming at her like that! I know you are just trying to give tips but please understand shes only very new and was just getting used to sitting on a moving horse and all those tips can be very overwhelming.
I get what you were trying to say it should be left to the teacher to teach but when it comes to riding a horse its always good to build that muscle memory and habit from the beginning. Keeping the heels down is something that should always be encouraged even when you aren't going into trotting or cantering. Plus, you should always try and have a good hold of your reins, not too tight the horse is backing up or uncomfortable but not to long that you can't control the horse. Yes this was a year ago but having you heels down, steering, having proper hold of your reins, a good posture is the basics of equestrian riding, you really don't need to get to trotting, cantering, hunter jumper stuff just to learn the basics
Yes in know and it’s a bit daunting when people u don’t even know are giving u and throwing stuf in your face like tighten your reins like she only just started
hey txu! i didn’t know that you liked horses!! i’m a barrel racer and i know it’s not the same as the style riding you like but here’s a few tips. this works for both types of riding! always let your body go with the rhythm of the horse. and make sure to keep your heels down! good luck with your riding journey and maybe one day you will try western riding! love you!! have funnn❤❤❤❤

Coming from an equestrian of 13 years I don’t think you’ll be jumping anytime soon you’re still learning the basics like you need your Heels down etc. there’s a lot more to it than it seems 😊
Hi Txu I am an equestrian and I just wanted to tell you to try to keep your heels down and always keep your back straight but most importantly have connection with your horse.❤❤
I've done horseback riding for 11 years and the boot hurt a lot if you dont wear them in enough i was told that vacuuming the house every day with the boots on for one month to breck them in. i just wore mine for weeks non stop. also make sure to stretch your heels down to loosen the ankle on the boot itll help with keeping your heels down in lessons. if its hurting the knees put a cloth or small sponge to keep it from rubbing your knee. Keep up the good work!!!!

The white shirt while riding pains me 😂 it might get so dirty! Mine always do. Some tips I have for you is to walk directly by the horses shoulder and having your hand under the horses chin while leading, that might be why the horse wasn’t going. Also try keeping your heels down when riding.
I’ve been doing horseback riding lessons for five years,and here are some tips that I have try it make your reins shorter for more control make sure to keep your heels down toes up,and those are some tips I have they helped me a lot.

You want to have a posture so if you ever do shows you can have that already set instead of just being sloppy on your horse and then having that a habit! Also I really want to see more and maybe you could respond to see what discipline you do and pleasure

I ride horses and even have my own horse and I recommend riding with your heels down and also doing more lessons before you get your own horse once you are pretty good at trotting that’s just my opinion
Oh and also not having long acrylic nails because if you fall or do something wrong you could break your nail and that could damage your real nail

Well trained horses from training centers don’t show you what the full experience of owning a horse is like. Ofc you learn how to ride, feed, clean, etc. But as far as the horse, the ones at the training have had years of taming. And what we don’t see is the effort and work the owner had to do to just the horse to that point. Horses don’t want to be ridden or trained, it’d be very rare to find on that does. So when you do get your own, there’s a 90% chance they’ll pull something on you. Bucking, nipping, etc. It’s not all about joy riding. But once you get through that stage and establish a relationship with your horse, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about that anymore. And I will mind you this is all from experience from not only me but many many other horse owners. Just be safe 💙☁️

I love horses but I just never get the chance to ride them I used to all the time I sometimes still do at the barn up my road on trails and a few jumps some tips are to keep your heels down and try to heel walk for a little everyday.

I don’t recommend buying horse things or horse clothes as a beginner I have been an equestrian for 23 years and I got my horse riding clothes after 4 and a half years😂😂😂❤❤

Another tip is have a helmet that has a brim and I ride my horse that is umm well let’s just say moody sassy and faster than u think so don’t be afraid of that horse and sorry no offense but that horse will do nothing and if you ride you have to get used to different horses I ride a 14.2 not that tall and I ride a 16.3 too that horse was probably 15.4 so 😑😬😆also if you ride can u post of you ride and what pleasure and discipline !
for future reference, 15.4 = 16hh.
Also sinse you said you had black legging you also need ride pant so when you make sharp turn while you trotting or cantering you dont love balence and fall!
