Back in the day 1960…the old timers, the Elders that were beading around the table…taught me how to bead Also with one needle and single thread. Never did do two needles, either.
    Love your videos…thank you.

Thank you so much . I got excited when you mentioned me. I hope you like doing it this way. For me I think it is much faster you just looping through the beads instead of having to stop and tack down the beads.. Have fun on your vacation..

One thread is also what I use. It was just how I was taught. But I'm always interested in seeing other techniques, too.

It’s nice to learn different techniques… I’ve been watching different techniques by others and it’s great you showed a different technique than you used before. It shows the audience that there are more ways that beading can be done. 😊

I only use one thread on most things that will not get a lot of abuse. One thing to remember is, even though you are using only one thread you will still maintain a double thread through all of your beads as you proceed with your project. I love your videos, so easy to watch.😀

Just starting again so I'm doing this at an old age.😂 Haven't been home to the Rez for over 15 years, born and raised. Now my Tlingit husband wants to learn. 👍

I like to “anchor” my beads, by adding 1, 2 or 3 at a time, going back 1, 2, 3 or 4, depending on the curve or straightness of the line. Then when I’m done that row, I go through all the beads again. It makes it nice and firm.

This is the way I was taught to bead. using a single thread and beading 3 beads going back through the last bead or 4 beads going back through the last 2beads. I always end up with too tight or too loose bedwork when I use the two needle method!

I have been doing beadwork of all kinds since the early 60's. I used to do beadwork on the dancers outfits. I still bead but not as much. I taught my sons to bead as well as my grandchildren. I also taught them to design.

Thank you for doing this I’m going to attempt to start beading for the first time. I feel it’s important for me to learn to pass it to my children so our heritage isn’t forgotten.

When you do 2 beads at a time, after the first 2, backstitch 3 beads. That way the backstitching will be less noticeable as spaces between every 2 beads. End the thread by stitching on the back of the Pellon, looping and passing thru the loop a couple times. No knots necessary. Begin beading by stitching on the back of the pellon also.. no knots. Using double thread makes it impossible to back out mistakes. Single thread… just pull the needle off the thread, pull the thread out of the last stitches, rethread the needle and move on.

One thing I do is I use on computer paper I draw what I’m beading. I tack tissue gift paper on top with pins. I copy the design. Then pin the tissue paper onto pellon. And while I’m beading i rip off the tissue paper. The original
Design I store it in a binder for later use

One needle isn’t as hard as folks think. I been doing one needle all my life. My great grandma who used to do bead work her husband would make her beads. If I can post a pic on here of her last item made. Trick is learning how to burnish when you bead on top of fabric.
