living in Switzerland, it's very strange to see this report. Most Swiss people are not as wealthy as most of the foreign investors who hide their money in Switzerland. We walk around all day wondering how these rich Russians, Arabs, and Chinese people get their money and how they managed to bring it into the country illegally. People here are struggling just like everywhere else in the world, but there's an upper class who never struggles who never has to go through customs and who somehow I was able to get money out of the bank in amount that would be illegal for anyone else to do.

$104 MILLION was not anywhere NEAR ENOUGH - according to the IRS's own whistleblower rules! Why? Because the $104 million is only 1/10 of one percent of the money his information brought into the US Treasury coffers!!! The standard whistleblower reward at the time was TEN PERCENT, NOT one TENTH of ONE PERCENT!!!

@ Versatil A who's who of America had illegal accounts in Europe. The largest single account belonged to the son of a television company owner. His father's estate never paid inheritance tax on the account. On September 15, 2006 that account was at $50 billion. This account was seized by the USA after September 15, 2008. They would go to restaurants in NYC and order expensive dishes. In the menu they would get $10,000 prepaid credit cards, cashiers checks, large money orders and also cash. The problem was the link between the tax evasion and 9/11. It was treason. Under the laws of the USA, the accounts were seized.

The wealth that needs to be hidden is usually ill-gotten. UBS or Swiss banks are nothing more than Satan's way of encouraging people to lie, cheat and let your imagination go from there. Birkenfield was jailed b/c he must have crossed some wealthy Americans, namely senators, governors, etc. Its called nepotism. USA is the biggest hypocrisy. The fact that the Swiss consider Birkenfield as a traitor is laughable and makes a statement that the SWISS government was fully behind it all and was getting taxes from the bankers. The Swiss are nothing more than the Vatican's dog.

One has to understand that if you are American or a US. resident you are the property of the US. government. They rule your life, you have absolutely no privacy, the government owns you and all you're freedom. Switzerland is the only true democracy in the world, you have the right of privacy even to the government, banking secrecy is a counterbalance to the the power of government. What you have in your bank is yours, not even the government has access, only you. The federal government in Switzerland does not rule your life, you have decentralized government in Cantones that are independent jurisdictions, you have local government in gemieinde where you actually pay the bulk of your taxes.
Taxes are generally low and deducted at source of income, you really do not even have to file tax return unless you want money back.
The citizens governs the society its local and decides more or less everything. An American can never understand that the government is not God father, they cannot control your life in Switzerland. In the USA you fear the government, in Switzerland the government is you and your fellows in society. Switzerland does not have any capital gains tax, which eliminates an enormous control operation of government incompentcy.

n the United States, he was convicted by the DOJ for a single charge of fraud conspiracy and served 31 months in a federal penitentiary from 2010 to 2012 with a fine of $30,000. After he applied for whistleblower status and protection, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) awarded him a settlement of $104 million through their Whistleblower Office, the largest award in US history.[5

He smuggled diamonds in a tube of tooth paste. According to this skunk, the diamonds did not have to be declared because their value did not exceed $10,000.00 This begs the qquestions of how cost effective it is to take a flight from Geneva to New York, plus per-diem, hotel, etc., usual expenses incurred in traveling, to smuggle less than $10,000.00? Maybe the US Customs and Border Protection should investigate this matter based on his own declaration.

This guy is just a dirty traitor who saw how much money he could earn by violating the rules he embraced when he signed his employment contract. This guy went to jail but earned enormous money! That’s just immoral.

Let me get this straight...did this guy make a legal determination that these people/institutions/corporations were actually legally "liable" for the taxes he claims they were evading? Was/is he "practicing law without a license"? Did he actually study the law regarding the federal income tax? Did he pour himself into the moras of the internal revenue code and the associated court rullings? How, when and where did he make his determination...which apparenyly was the impetus for his action? Or did someone grease his palm? Perhaps he should have read the book : "cracking the code".

You've got to take 60 Minutes' pointed messages with a few ounces of salt. "Bradley Birkenfeld is a former international banker and wealth manager with UBS. In 2012, Mr. Birkenfeld made history when he obtained the largest whistleblower reward ever given to an individual whistleblower in the twenty-five year history of federal qui tam or whistleblower reward laws, for reporting IRS Tax Fraud.
The award was obtained by attorneys from the law firm of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto after three years of litigation before the IRS Whistleblower Office and recognized Mr. Birkenfeld’s numerous contributions to the public interest." www.whistleblowers.org/members/bradley-birkenfeld/

Allways it were the rich which devolped secrecy bankaccounts , companies , businrss deals , phonenumbers to protect their involvement and how they generate their income from. All to coverup their real wealth. They use many strawmen to run their companies or to buy out a concurrencel or when this is not possible to buy shares to become a significant sharesholder of these businesses .you can ask yourself why all these secrecy is still excisting when criminals can use these possibilities aswell

If the governments had the money they would just keep on a mad bad spending spree. What makes you think they are going to pay of the national debt or cut taxes that hurt the economy? Even earning cash in hand why should you tell the government of any country.
