Yeah I agree, doesn't look quite as good after just 24 hours but it's so cheap so will refresh it once a week I guess.

Good plan and it’s good for the birds as well keeps there feet clean when they walk around less chance of passing things on and carrying things around the loft

I would go with the loft white and scraper. I've got a suggestion, see what you think because it will mean a bit extra expense. IT IS LEAVE THE FLOOR THAT IS DOWN NOW. CREOSOTE IT AND PUT HARDBOARD SHEETS ON TOP OF IT.
Nothing would live underneath the hardboard if it is creosoted, but if you do that make sure you don't get the creosote anywhere else in the loft. Hardboard is a natural substance and will create more natural environment, and allow droppings to dry up naturally. Plus you would have got an extra layer of insulation. Just a thought!

1.30 some of your droppings? Oh well, if it works for you lol. So glad the birds are getting better.

Personally I use grids in all sections of my lofts and sprinkle loft white under them. Take them up once a week and clean and refresh takes no time at all.

That is a good idea. I have never used grids personally but would possibly in the future

I personally like the loft white, because it’s easier to clean, sand is ok but gets mixed with droppings and the birds peck from it, not good, I rather feeding grit separately, birds like the deep bedding but a pain to clean, so loft white for me..👍 Thanks for sharing.

I use kiln dried sand just a handful in a section I scrape out every day it keeps the loft clean I use granuals in the winter and clean it out before the breeding starts then back to sand.

I did a full clean out this morning and it doesn't take long at all so think I will keep doing it. It helps that I have lights in the loft for the Winter

For me the deep litter system is number one. First I put white lime then wood shavings. It keeps my birds feet clean. The used litter goes to compost/ garden.
    Second is sharp sand.
Lastly is bare concrete floor with whitener.

We scrape out the floor twice a day which takes no time as the box perches all have homemade grills fitted, this keeps the birds feet lovely and clean and saves time as these only have to be scraped once per week. We use a fantastic product called Respiro-San-Dry once per week. It is a highly absorbent powder blended with aromatic olis to help improve respiratory health, it smells lovely and is good for pigeon and fancier. We also use harkers loft treatment once per month as this kills salmonella and other nasties.
We have just had the birds tested and came back 100% healthy. This is after no yb treatments since they were weaned (apart from paramixo vaccine)
I would highly recommend this method easy and effective.

That's a very good plan. I have heard pf and seen respiro san at Blackpool and may start using some if I can pick some up at the shows

Will you bleech out/disenfect the loft after the sickness? The likes of the blocks can really harvest the sickness.

That's a good point, I have some cleaning product from the same supplier of the remedies I am using

OB , anything really. I don't use nothing in the Spring Summer and deep litter through the Winter.
YB I would never use deep litter. Yb will eat anything including the deep litter. I now use a bit loft white in the box perches and have grills on the floor. Like you I have a small yb lift so wasn't to expensive to do. The advantage is anything from any sickness goes through the grills and isn't eaten by the other ybs , thus reducing the risk of them all going off.

So....interestingly all the birds are improving but the worse ones are still the stock hens and that is the last one that has had the deep litter removed. I have spoke with Colin Leask this evening and hopefully should be back to all solid droppings in the next 2-3 weeks. Birds seem fine in themselves but there must be a digestive issue somewhere for this to still be happening. All a good learning experience though. Just gutted that it happened after literally the first time in the race baskets for the babies.

@@racingpigeonworld8879 that's pigeon racing . If I ever get anything like what your going through I put the whole lot on bean's and nowt else. When feeding beans the droppings should be like marbles. I find it easier to use droppings as a guide to how they're improving....
