I feel like lot of this type of ‘drama’ could be avoided if fans/stans stopped reading into surface level situations and having celebrities ‘comment’ on the drama as well because it just adds more fuel to the dumpster fire.
@@UnpoeticJusticeSeriously! The amount of videos I’ve seen claiming that Hailey is/was a stalker of Selena and Justin is low key making my brain rot. I’m not a supporter of either side, but it’s really funny to me how stans forget how they all acted in their adolescence when it came to worshiping their own celebrity crushes. Her actions seem harmless compared to what I’ve seen other people do and since she came from a wealthy/famous family, she had more direct accessibility to form a relationship with him.
I love how passive aggressive all of this is. Like I remember the times celebrities were cursing and threatening each other on live tv and now all hell breaks loose bc of a slightly suggestive eyebrow pic. Everyone involved (us included) is terminally online and it shows 😭
i have been thinking about this so much lately, as a person who’s friends with a lot of hyper feminine girly women, sometimes i feel alienated because i’ll see people in public show them more respect/ kindness just because they’re wearing a little dress and natural makeup. god forbid a man hold a door open for my goth ass
The days where I lean more into a Gothic style or a 90s grunge style (omg, ESPECIALLY grunge) starkly contrast from when I'm hyper feminine so I feel you completely 🤣
The "mean" comes out as well in relationships between emotionally immature women when one doesn't behave as the other wants or expects. I have noticed this manifests with the lack of modeling of healthy interaction and communication, especially by caregivers
This is very, very true. Some of the dating and friendship conversations I here online make me cringe because sometimes it is very apparent that the young lady needs to learn a bit more about herself.
Your video really made me think for a moment because one “cat fight” in a womens career will define that woman for the rest of her life depending on what side she comes out on.
Love your point about how the trivialization of female issues lowers the threshold of ppl willing to engage in girlfights, and how the assumption of emotional intelligence in women preempts opportunities for women to take agency in their emotional development. I think another very prominent characteristic of the male conceptualization of girlfights, especially in Western culture, is this fallacious, aspirational notion of men's comparative stoicism. Not only does this offload "emotional labor" (as much as this term is abused) onto women, but I think it lets me off the hook way too easily. I like how you want more for women, but men are throwing literal nukes in twig houses in comparison. When it comes to "boy fights", we are choosing the literal nuclear option when we're not getting in weekly barfights and spree shooting. Twitter drama seems healthy in comparison lol. I think when women emulate this revisionist male gaze; it's especially fascinating how profoundly ppl like Selena project wanting peace while sublimating her transparent pettiness into subliminal tweets.
@@UnpoeticJustice OMG I wanna have a podcast for internally critiquing progressive/leftist foibles and I definitely have you on my list of dream guests. 😭
Why do people care about people who dated when they were teenagers?! They were like 16 at the time. Selena is 30 now. Everyone let it go. Go outside, put the phone down. Look at the trees.
You know this made me remember a time when i was like 7 and was playing to be a teacher with my mom. A girl made fun of me so i pretended my doll was her and scolded her for getting all the questions wrong. My mom asked me "why dont we pretend you did really well in class instead?". And in hindsight that little moment teached me a lot about how to deal with the natural agression i felt growing up. Its really interesting to hear others experiences with relationships as a child. Realy good video!
I feel like this is a bit of an ironic “compliment” because I don’t think this topic is “so trivial.” At all. It’s very serious to me, personally. I mean no disrespect and felt compelled to share my thoughts to open a fruitful dialogue about it, if you’d like.
As someone with pretty privelege I intentionally don't wear makeup, cut my hair short, and wear comfort clothes. I intentionally try and make it so I don't have pretty privelege. Being Transmasc made me very uncomfortable with the comments people give me. Comments like "you're so cute when you're angry" or "you sneeze like a kitten" always annoyed me. No one ever took me, my emotions, or my intellect seriously when I was more femme and took some care at my looks. I also had no idea if people prized me for my looks or my brains. I didn't and still don't know why people want to date me. You aren't taken seriously if you're pretty. You aren't treated with respect or dignity. That and people both idolize and look down on you. Its way less fun than just trying to make myself as normal looking as possible and being treated human. Long story short is pretty privelege qint always worth it.
I am so glad UA-cam recommended me this, and I chose to watch it. I was excited to check out a creator I'd not discovered before. But this really blew me away. So much food for thought packed into less than 20 minutes. I'm looking forward checking out more now.

I would agree to some to extent. The only reason I'd differentiate the two is solely because pretty privilege seems to be a slightly more shallow concept that focuses solely on tangible reward, which, of course, intersects with desirability politics.
@@UnpoeticJustice i agree that pretty privilege is more shallow but i dont understand how they are different. desirability politics expands more on the idea behind it. i look at them like synonyms, i just prefer desirability politics because its a bit more nuanced

I just posted a pinned comment to this video where you guys can get it at Target! It's not a commissioned link or anything. I didn't realize that people would like it so much 😄
I think you could splice videos of every single celebrity who wrote a book saying “I’m finally telling my own story, instead of other people telling it for me”, also they all probably hired ghost writers.
You're not wrong. The things people are comparing from Selena to Hailey are very...generic, which is why I have no true opinion. Kim Kardashian actually said something similar to the clip of Selena in my video on her show on Hulu.
When there is drama like this among celebrities it just reminds me that no amount of money or followers takes away insecurities or jealousy. You've got enough money and status to never even have to be seen in public again but here we are still fighting over the same stuff we joke high schoolers do. You can be married to a whole generation's boy crush and more money than most will ever have access to but here we are still seeing this turmoil playing out across social media.
Exactly. Yes, money brings happiness but what's the point if you are still insecure and don't love yourself, loathe what you see in the mirror everyday? Material things will not fix what's broken inside.
I also think that a big factor in why we take girl fights less seriously (at least when white women do it) as a society is because of our cultural perception of women being the objectively weaker sex. maybe this is cultural but I think that anyone who has actually seen two girls actually throw down can verify that some girls can just go Hulk Hogan on each other. anyone whose seen it knows that just because your a physically small female doesn’t mean you can’t draw blood or fuck someone up during a fight. but since we perceive women as being physically weaker, we think it’s more a joke. it could also be a movie problem. like in movies and tv when girls are literally throwing each other around with stunt doubles and shit, but there’s silly music playing or funny slap sounds. whereas if it were dudes fighting like that there would be blood everywhere, the dudes would be injured/bruised, and the other characters take it very seriously.
Appreciate that at least for the context of this video, you present Pick Me's as people who seek general approval and social status rather than just girls who want male attention. I always found that to be a regressive and simplified interpretation of them that refused to empathize or understand how these women came to be. The Pick Me almost feels like a scapegoat to not address men's role in the problem.
I think some women try to take on a lot of blame on to themselves in an attempt to decentralize men; I know I have a habit of doing that. While I do believe there is a push-and-pull balance, or "shared blame", with both men and women when it comes why someone is a Pick Me, we could probably stand to address the role of men in some situations a bit more.
this video is very good!! i’m not at all aware of this drama but i’ve heard it is going on, and everything you say is very much applicable to both celebrity/influencer spaces and within our own lives. when you mention how parasocial relationships have much more to do with ego, that really clicked for me, considering i had spent my entire teenhood inthralled in ones with youtubers, internet influencers, and kpop idols. things started to change when i realized their fan service and personalities are commodified, and especially with kpop. capitalism is in everything!!! but also thinking about the ego and how i’ve changed with my healing alongside the “mean girl” behavior i’ve dealt with from others helps me think a lot differently in my personal life.
