- In this video, part 2 of the chainsaws we use on the homestead, we show the mid size vintage chainsaws (50cc to 60cc) that we use. I talk about the saws and then show them in action. Here is a list of the vintage chainsaws shown in this video.
Pioneer P-20
McCulloch 10-10 Automatic
Homelite XL-12
McCulloch Timber Bear
Partner 5-55
Homelite Super XL
McCulloch ProMac 610
God Bless and Protect Mr. Obsolete, for helping TazMan:) You have a very kind soul:)
Thank you for the kind comment. Sharing knowledge and helping others is something we should all do.
I love the Mid sized saws! So many makes and models, you are a wealth of knowledge Sir, and always enertaining!
Thank you for the really nice comment. I really like to share knowledge and history as well as just good ol BS !

Just got my first 610 and I’m in love ! She runs strong and cuts fast! In the process of getting a 10-10 ! Loving these old McCullochs-
- I have a lot of newer saws echoes steels top handles……. But these oldies are fun and they run!
I started out with old saws, had newer ones, they didn't last, so I still have my old saws ,still on the job after 44 years.
I like this series. Fun to see several saws in progression. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks I'm looking for to the next one too!
Oooooo im getting excited for the big saws!!!
The big saw's video is coming soon.
I did a video some time back on building the saw buck. It is one of my most used pieces of equipment. I really like running my old Lawn Boy mowers. Your mower is close to being one of the last 2 strokes. I think 1992 was the final production year for them.
As always another excellent video showing some cool vintage saws. I don't know why I get all excited about seeing these vintage saws run. That swedish partner is smooth, the red homelite seems like a sweet saw too, but that big ol 610 really chews up the wood. I have several newer stihls, but have a trio of 605 mac's, and a 10-10 with recoil on opposite side and a 7-10 I haven't had time to mess with yet. These things are as addictive as old tractors and trucks
Junk collecting is such a great hobby ! Looks like you have some good Mac projects. My ol Mac 610's have been real performers for me, and are the most used saws in my collection. Power and reliability works for me.
I also use the 50-60cc the most. Versatile, good power to weight for the size of trees I cut.
Most of the tree's I have for firewood are 20 inches or less, so the mid-size saws are also the ones I use the most.
Ratzilla returns! Good seeing it again. You can hear how slow it is but that's why it's still around.
Ol Rat-Sawzilla is quite the piece ! Amazing it still runs in it's poor condition.
I have never seen a partner saw but now I want one.
The Partner saws are excellent, but relatively scarce and parts are not readily available, but if you find a good complete one, you will deflnatly like it.
Excellent video. I sure like the design and height of the cutting rack you made. I got a kick out of seeing the 2 stroke Lawnboy. I bought one in 1990 that I still use today.
very nice collection, i got a mc timber bear and a 610, in germany very rare, here in germany a chainsaw without brake is vorbidden to run
I cant imagine the government worrying about such trivial stuff as a chain brake on a saw. The SAFETY SALLY'S are out of control.
Those are some cool saws. 😎 keep in mind tree climbers like me don't want to haul a hole bunch of weight around all day to get decent power out of a saw. That's why the pros usually run stihl and husky.
As a pro you surely don't want to dragging around a big heavy saw in a tree. The saws I am talking about are farm/home owners saws where weight isn't much of an issue, and most people in this category don't do much in tree work.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Hey I'd love to be able to cut some firewood with one of those old macs you've got I love seeing those things
I have to think getting parts for Partners would be tough here in the states.
Finding Partner chainsaw parts is a challenge. The last owner of Partner was Electrolux (Husky Poulan Pioneer Partner ) Partner went bankrupt, merged with Pioneer which also went bankrupt, was then purchased by Electrolux who phased out all the small saws in the line but continued with some of the larger saws. The Husky 372 and later versions were based on a Partner design. When all the smaller saw models were discontinued, Electrolux didn't keep parts for them around very long.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 I had heard that the 372 owed its design to Partner. It's nice to get conformation from you that it's true. The 372 is still considered by many to be one of the best designs of all time. Do you know what model Partner spawned the 372?
Partner P70 was the basis saw for the Husky 372
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Alright, thanks.
When I think about what McCulloch could’ve become it makes me sad. They had some of the most badass saws ever back in their hay day.
After Robert McCulloch sold the company to Black and Decker, the company quit innovating and left the commercial saw market also. That is why they failed.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 it is a shame for sure my friend.
Great video yet again, but I’d love to know why you always blip the throttle before you shutdown your saw, is there a reason for that??
After cutting, I run the saws a bit to cool them down. Doing that makes the saws last a whole lot longer. Shutting down a hot saw makes the oil move away from the hot spots, resulting with poor lubrication when restarting. Modern saws with 50 to 1 oil ratio are more prone to problems from this than older saws with a richer mixture
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Wow, I never knew that! Thats valuable information right there, thank you Mr Obsolete!
A question: from a collector’s perspective what would you consider to be the most sought after saw? I realize it’d no doubt be a big boy like a Stihl 090. Just curious what the ultimate find would be. Thank you for your videos and knowledge along with your many tips. Every Tuesday evening I attend a mens group and always try to watch your new video when I get home. Thank you and keep blest.
The most sought after saw is the McCulloch SP 125. This isn't my opinion, it is what most saw collectors have as their most wanted saw.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 thank you!
you're welcome@@budgillett9627
What would we do without those valuable safety stickers on that Timber Bear? I can remember seeing online Mac saws in the 2000's. I think Husqvarna owned it at that point. Do you know what happened to McCulloch?
I always get a laugh at the safety Sally stickers on equipment as they are so stupid. My favorite Safety Sally quote of all is the one on Pizza boxes (Open Box Before Eating). McCulloch failed in 1999 from mismanagement and debt. Electrolux (Husky etc.) bought the name and had the saws made in Asia somewhere and some were Poulans from what info I have found.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Didn't know about the Asia bit but I suspected that the ones I saw on the website were probably rebadged Poulans. It does seem that some of the best built longest lasting saws were made in the '60s and '70s! Many of the older one were super heavy and bulky. The newer ones concentrated on being light, and cheaper to build.
The Asia connection was short lived, and yes the later ones are just crappy Poulan's. Cheap to build is the driving force for most chainsaws made today.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Just part of the throw away culture.
ive got a mcculloch 610 runs perfect horizontal/sideways but stalls in vertical position rebuilt walbro new kit didnt help took out fuel line checked it out close & pressure test it there's no cracks but does seem soft inside tank end. any ideas?
I would replace the fuel line. If the fuel level is low and id the saw is in a vertacle position, the filter will be in a spot where there is no fuel.
I have found out watching this channel if he owns it, it’s better 😂
like ya Farmall
and the Vintage saws as well ,Thank You
I can't figure out which one i like best i want them all
That's the same problem I have !
I wish my 1010 weighed 12 pounds!!! My 1010 weighs 16 pounds without the bar!
Weenies need not apply!!
