- Greetings !
I'm proud to present you my nearly two-month work to fully render Oblivion in Unreal Engine 5.3.
This was possible thanks to a C++ plugin I specifically developed to parse ESM files.
A lot of research was done to understand the format with the help of The Unofficial Elder Scrolls pages (en.uesp.net/wi....
Therefore, Landscape and Asset placement are 100% accurate.
Only foliage is custom because the old Speedtree SPT format is no longer supported and no conversion tools exist to my knowledge.
Technically speaking, Landscape is rendered using Procedural Meshes with layer painted textures as specified by the ESM and all assets are Nanite.
Assets and textures are all from the original game (except foliage).
Grass is missing as I lack the knowledge on how to place it correctly.
Lighting is ensured by Ultra Dynamic Sky (www.unrealengi....
On my Intel I5 12400 with 64Gb RAM and a RTX 3060, FPS averages around 60 in 1080p.

The C++ plugin will be available for sale soon (without any TES assets) at a reasonable price.
And documentation is now available here :

I hope you enjoyed this video.
Cheers !
Greg
PS : My plugin also works with Skyrim ;)
PS2 : Latest demo now has grass and flora ! Get it on my Discord :)
A horizon colored fog to blend the lod details and draw distance would smooth things out, looks great of course
Truly an impressive work and we can see all the efforts you put into it !💜
Seeing the world with this much clarity really highlights how close together each city is
Impressive use of original assets, I've done similar with Goldsrc engine and UE5 as experiments
this is better than starfield.
I took a dump yesterday that was better than Starfield
Everything is better lol
@PersonausdemAll trust me @blargwortwort knows what he said cuz it's true I've played Starfield It Sucks Bad Bethesda called it Elder Scrolls In Space That Absolute bullshit Period!#I love the fan who's greets you after you become Arena Champion in Oblivion but in Starfield He more of a pain then a mild inconvenience No one who's played starfield loves that character ever!#in my playthrough of Starfield I just got sick and tired of his ass following mine so I shot the creepy SOB on some back water world in Starfield!
Not much of a bar to overcome lmao
Thats not very hard to achieve
wow looks wonderful! wish we had a remaster like this
Yos❤
Skyoblivion
doing this fly over has reminded me how awesome Cyrodill was and how well constructed as a well thought out landscape it was.
Bethesda: "Nice try, non-professionals, but we shall stick to making TES6 on our old engine for the next 10 years. Cheers!"
Way better story and dlc than Skyrim
This is beyond beautiful.
This is so entertaining, what an amazing job! I hope we would be able to see Fallout series in the future xD
Nice nostalgic tour of Cyrodil, thank you.
Imagine if you could do this with Oblivion, Morrowind and Skyrim, put all the maps together and have some massive Sword, Magic, Archery etc Battle Royale game edited into that map.
As long as it has Oblivion and Morrowind mechanics I'm down.
Skyrim took away so many good mechanics from the previous games.
Lose the Morrowind combat system.
Very interesting. Does your tool allow you to make edits and then import back into Creation engine? I'm just wondering what the purpose of the tool is and how modders will be able to make use of it. Obviously, they already have some process for importing and exporting assets, but maybe this makes the process easier?
Amazing job!
I'm going back!!!
How did you...? God damn amazing details
I love how Morrowind landscapes look. I love how Skyrim landscapes look. But I feel that Oblivion's landscape is so underwhelming and generic.
What's with all the textures for the distant objects popping in like they do.. I'd have thought Unreal 5 would do a better more seamless job with that.
Now make a version from the Pocket guide to the empire. Where Cyrodiil is a jungle and the Imperial city on top of 7 islands . :P
I'm being sarcastic of course. This is great work.
Skyrim Video: Oblivion OST
Oblivion Video: Elder Scrolls 3 OST
That is awesome!
My only two complaints: with such a high draw distance, the map really feels much smaller. And there are no trees in Blackwood 😅
Needs mist and fog to give it depth
Very impressive, I made this with Morrowind but my goal was to create levels and export them back to Morrowind format and be playable there so I needed every asset imported in engine. Also UE landscape was used. I guess it wasn't so nice and easy to use as yours work. Btw why put such a nice piece behind paywall? I think community would love something like this.
Hi and thanks :) I've put nearly two months of my life into creating this and I think the plugin to process ESM files deserves a tip (it works with Skyrim too and maybe with other ESM files which I don't own). It'll be sold with a simple landscape generator which you will be able use with your ESM file (not included).
The full project as shown in the video with all the assets will obviously not be destributed. But a demo is available on my Discord (discord.gg/Udab2K5a5X) if you want to try it out.
Cheers !
We're gonna beat Dagon with this one
Awesome! I'd love to see this with Fallout: New Vegas! Or even Fallout: 4!
Grafhic is not a issue .. the issue of bedethda is shttiy animation &motion.
Huge amount of popin happening. Nanite shouldn't do that.
was thinking the same thing
The "popping" has nothing to do with Nanite : World is composed of procedural mesh cells which hide or appear depending on the player distance to save performance. But I agree that a fading system would be nicer :)
@@gregcoulthard5565 with UE5 neighbouring cells can be seen and also you can setup it up so data can transmit between them. So yeah, not sure what your doing. Looks like you've told the engine to cull cells past a certain point. Haven't seen this problem in other massive world LOD demos.
look great but the popping on distance ruin a bit the thing.
glorious
The water renders well
Any public release?
Hi ! A demo is available on my Discord :

Just ask me there :)
BY THE NINE
Jeez, I haven’t played Oblivion in so long I don’t even recognize the areas. Is it worth the replay?
The leveling system is whack and the combat is floaty, but the quests are better than Skyrim, especially the faction quests and side quests
cease and desist letter incoming. incoming. incoming :DD
Hate how the camera wobbles. Why does first person = drunken monkey? Does anyone really see like that when they walk? Why add it?
Hunh. It's a more polished and refined jankiness. Though the water and distant hills/mountains look quite nice.
I guess there's just a limit to the end result when given what you have to work with.
When you say it works with skyrim, what do you mean?
Hi ! My plugin can also parse Skyrim's ESM file :)
Goood ol simple times :X
hey man wanna help me with the starblivion project ?
Hi ! What is this ?
@@gregcoulthard5565 it’s recreating oblivion in Starfield ! I already have uploaded like 10 oblivion mods for Starfield but I need help with the whole map
Just think of the physics magic
WOW
No grass??
There is now in my latest demo - join my Discord if you want to try it : discord.gg/Udab2K5a5X
No npcs? It's a deadlivion
Hey ! Latest demo now includes Qarl's texture pack ! discord.gg/Udab2K5a5X
Just a Tease ya know.. it's not like you are going to re-create the full game with npc's and quests. HINT HINT.
If they don’t hire new and better talent at Todd’s Dungeon then E6 probably will be bad as well 💀
I can't tell a difference. Do Morrowind.
