    NORMALIZING
    1.HEATING
    - Steel is uniformly heated to a temperature
    - Which causes a completely austenitic structure
    - Hypo eutrctoid Steel- A3 +50 °C
    - Hyper eutectoid Steel- A1 +50°C
    2. HOLDING
    - At this stage, steels are held at constant temperature for complete homogeneous structure
    - Holding time is 1 hour for each 25mm diameter or thickness.
    3. COOLING
    - At this stage, steel is allowed to cool at room temperature, usually in air.
    - The rate of cooling is faster as compared to annealing process.
    - The cooling is non equilibrium cooling and austenite is transformed into medium pearlite.
    PURPOSE OF NORMALIZING
    1. Improve Machinability (facing, taper turning, contour turning, chamfering, cutoff, threading, boring, drilling,
    2. To modify and refine casting dendritic structures (Blow holes, other surface defects)
    3. To refine the grains
    4. To make Steel suitable for the further hear treatment (Hardening process)
    5. To relive the internal stresses.
    ADVANTAGES OVER ANNEALING
    1. It's faster as the rate of cooling is faster than annealing
    2. Faster process/ take less time in furnace.
    3. Quenching media is air. Outside the furnace, it becomes batch type production.
Breif notes for my dear Buddies ❤️

I would like to learn the microstructure, how they develop and if they are not developed then their effects on the steel products, any mechanical properties affected ?

What would cause a normalized part to rust shortly after this heat treatment process? The rust isn’t uniform around the part but more spotty.

Oxidation on a heat treated piece will be consequence of the ionic exchange with te media. In any case, as whatever chemical reaction, it will need energy, witch will be improve by the heat in the furnace. As long as your piece is on a heated condition, that means, as long as you give energy to your material sistem, deeper will be your corrotion; as high is the temperature, faster will be your corrotion. There are many ion in the air, but the mainly are those depend of water steam, H(+) and O(-2). One reduce, the other oxidaze your matterial. In the most of the steels and cast iron, the ion Fe (+2) will combine with oxigen and begin producing a rust cover to your material. Then a second layer of Fe2O3, wich is the greater than the preview, will form but that its most provably to hapend in annealing process, not in normalizing. There are tons of bibliography to read about the question, if you want, i can suggest some books.

There are many things false. The first one is that necessarily, the result of a normalizing is medium pearlite, because it will depend on the ttt diagram of the specific steel, and therefore on its chemical compossition. Second, if you want smoother machinability you should anneal your piece, not normalize it. The deffects you menttionate have notthing to do with normalization, those are several "rechupes" (dont know the translation to english) and as i see the only way to solve them its to manage the temperature of casting or the geometry of the mould. A porpose for normalizing respect casting may be improve the grain structure, endeed, bu only after a annealing because an annealing whill give enought time to solid state diffution to homogeneize the chemical commposition gradients product of differential cooling rates between center and exterior of the piece and, in consequence, in wich point of the solidus line of the phase diagram of the matterial the piece is it. Finally, i think its not engeniering thougt to think that normalization have advantages respect annealing; are two completelly diferent process, with different results, thats all.

Informative, but "so" irritating narrator "guys". Recommendation: Normalize yourself with English language and stop using "so guys" so may times.
