Jake you have been a massive inspiration for me threw my journey as a bigginer archer, who has goals to complete, even at 52 i believe i can achieve this. Taking my course next month, it's an 8 week course. I just got a samick sage bow from a really good uk company and i love this bow. As for target panic yes, hugely so, i do find the quicker i shoot I'm more accurate, but at moment using the wrong arrows, I'll have to measure my draw length and speak to the shop i now use for my archery gear because they are so honest and helpful..and that I've found in you, you're honesty and transparency is a blessing. I'm also going to get your book. I've commented a few times on much older videos and have a saved part on my UA-cam page and you're 99.9% on it lol..I've also found recording myself is a very handy way to see how my form is coming along. Obviously i have much to learn, but you jake have gave me so much knowledge in this sport that i doubt without a coach i could of got anywhere else. Just thankyou jake, thankyou for your time and patience teaching us new to the sport the realistic side to it. I truly admire you not only as an archer but as a person.

I hear ya! Coming from trad, and instinctive to barebow I tried splitting the difference gap wise, but it didn't work outdoors. Fighting that tp! For me, setting one bow up at 26# helped me work on form. Not perfect but it helped. Nothing worse than knowing what you are capable of, but being held back by the mind!a

I really enjoyed this video! I’m learning Olympic recurve and Barebow also. I’m an accomplished compound shooter and want to learn other styles of shooting and you have taught me so much! My journey as an accomplished Olympic style shooter will be plagued with TP. It happens if you shoot long enough. I went through it for 2 hard years. And I’m finally back to shooting how I feel I should be shooting and am more confident with my Olympic recurve training. Thanks Jake and you will make TP your “biotch”!!! I know you will. Keep up the great work on your videos. I hope and pray you make your own and design your finger tab for both styles. 🙏🏽🤙🏽

I agree. Since I realized I have target (in the beginning I didn't even know whats wrong with me), I see other people having the same problem but they don't know about it. In my opinion everyone should use a psyho trigger even if they don't have "target panic", because it helps to go through your expansion better (again: in my opinion).
I am also trying to optimise my grip sear at the moment. But even being not perfect right now, shooting feels much better and less frustrating.

I've lost a lot of weight since April (-34 lbs, -15.42 kg), but also lost a bit of muscle mass and found that I'm having more difficulty with my current 55# bow. I release without wanting to, against my will, as if a second person in me was deciding for me. In addition to this phenomenon, panic quickly set in, which totally aggravates the matter.
So I followed your advice from your previous videos on the subject, namely doing blank bale shooting and more exercises with the rubber band. I hope to improve the situation.

Yeah. Getting back into it. Figuring out what was lost. Jumping up and down. Need to shoot more. I don't have any lower bow wheights either. I misspelled. Personally shooting down and to the left. Over and over again. I aim and mis precisely down and to the left.

I think you are on the right track, but it is a process and may never be perfect. I don't really have target panic because I started off with the idea of prevention and not waiting for it to hit and then dealing with fixing it. I use a sear system very much like what you are working on. I have a
R-Core plastic Masters grip and it has a nice edge and I bet isn't as slippery as the glass grips. I still am working on trying different thumb pressure on the grip side and trying different sear finger pressure amounts. Sometimes I use too much thumb pressure and I get arrows torquing to the left several inches. On the other hand, I also have lots of shots where the arrow tip holds very steady in the center and the release is so easy that I can track the arrow the whole way to the center. So I like the plastic grip texture, and I have invested in a high quality fingernail clipper plus ceramic nail file to help my sear fingernail stay fairly consistent in length and filed smooth. I figure my nail is an important piece of equipment that needs proper care and tuning. A sear works, if you put in the work.

Jake, if pulling your finger up the grip is too much of e postive action, then try just lettlng that finger slip off the grip! That too sounds like a clicker!
BTW I Put some notes on the first video of your new longbow that i hope will be of use! BTBTWyour new bow does not actually class as an English Longbow! That has horn nocks no riser and a D section!
What yours is efined as is an American Flatbow!
Another thing to do in your off time is make a Quiver, that gets rid of one hell of a lot of frustration!

I shoot #40 right now, and my yost tab is set up with three layers, the face is kangaroo, the middle is neoprene and the backing is kangaroo, i can feel my hood really well, but it isnt so thin to where my fingers are sore after 200+ shots through it, try ordering a neoprene layer for your tab and try it out

Barebow Pros shoot anything between 36# to 40 or 42#.
is shoot 38# but recently tried 34 (my original draw weight from my first bow)...and it felt nice, really manageable although there was still anticipation in the shot (so, at least for me, I can say TP is not related to draw weight...hell, sometimes I got it even when shooting the club's bows at a meager 20#).

Let me help you with this. I have been shooting for almost 58 years. I have not had any target panic for over 45 years. It took my shooting a compound and PROPERLY using a back tension release. These FORCE you to hold in the middle until that release goes off. Many so called professional archers today call these same releases a HInge release. This is because the roll it in their hand and Han be PUNCHED. Squeezing your shoulder blades together to get the back tension release to go off if the proper way. After 6 months of doing this, and now years later, I CANNOT punch a release at all. I can also shoot a recurve like you are shooting and not let go too soon. I let down many times. So if you want to end it for good, a compound and a back tension is the way that will end it. Again, it forces you to hold in the middle until the release goes off.
And you grip, use a finger sling. This is 100% repeatable. No using your fingers on the front of the bow. You relax your fingers.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  Рік тому +3

I appreciate your help, however the back tension release fires on its own when activated properly as do all releases. The action of opening the fingers is far different at least for me. It’s possible your method works for others but that has to proven to help with me.

Hi Jake, I really enjoy your videos and reviews, you seem to have good work ethic. I'd never even heard of target panic until seeing this video but for what its worth do you think at the root of it could be the fear of failure or of every shot not being perfect? I've always shot barebow so never used a clicker however if the whole point of a clicker is to remove you from the decision process of when to release the shot then it seems reasonable to assume subconsciously or consciously you fear the outcome of the decision being a bad shot. If you want to shoot barebow you have accept that you cant have perfect control over everything, every shot will not always be perfect and that's ok. Its actually quite freeing to accept that and what makes barebow fun and exciting. If you watch the 2023 Lancaster Classic Mens barebow final John Demmer, arguably the number one barebow archer in the world, fluffed a shot completely missing the target and shrugged it off because that's barebow. I hope you can get passed it as it would be a shame for you to miss out. All the best.

my yost is good with another layer of cordovan, replaced paracord with a bra strap to loop around 3 fingers. makes it feel like a completely different tab.
I think the actual problem is people wanting those smooth limbs like mxt's and uukha's that don't give you a clear indication of being at full draw. Even for recurve i find that they're not as stable compared to more traditional limbs. Might be just me i guess, i like that solid wall feel at full draw.
My indoor setup right now is x23 2318's with a 44lb limb pulling 50. I'm pretty sure i'll be sticking to this, might change the feather setup though and try some of those big xs wings.

Also I've been told because of how the limbs are on a samick sage it's best to have the finger under the knock, which i believe is called string walking, I've always had one finger ontop two under, but I'm going to try this out, more as an experiment because one youtuber who was comparing the samick sage to a custom bow said this was the case ..I'm not sure.. but worth finding out..

Tab mod: use soft plastic from milk jug or 2 litre soda, add that between your leather layers. Not sure if it’s allowed in competition
I needed a layer due to having low quality leather used as a replacement. The under layer kept shifting and deforming.

As a NLP master practitioner I'm curious as to how you do "target panic."
If I was working with you I would elicit what it is you do in order to "target panic" It
    varies from archer to archer.
Is it a voice in your head? if it is, whose voice? What is the tone of voice? What is it
saying? Where is the voice, inside, outside, left, right?
Is it a visualisation? If so, what are you picturing?
Is it a feeling? If it is, where is it? what kind of feeling, painful, sharp, dull,
    existential?
Feelings like anxiety are a result of imagining a bad outcome from something that has not yet
    happened.
Intervention in a part of the process, whether it is changing the voice or whatever is the
    trigger, will dissolve the issue.
I don't like the term "target panic." It has come to mean a permanent situation that requires
major effort to overcome, whereas, in reality , is a mental process that can be easily changed.
Saying "I have target panic" claims ownership and makes it a part of you. Saying "I HAD target
panic." Or better still, "I used to have difficulty with my barebow shot process" makes it
    possible to change.
One of the presuppositions of NLP is that all behavior has a positive intention. This means
that no matter how bizarre a behavior, it is trying to avoid pain or gain pleasure for you.
What is the positive intention of "target panic"? Perhaps too much emphasis is placed on the
result of the shot thereby tying self esteem and self worth to each arrow! We want to keep the
positive intention, just change the process that was causing the undesired results.
Your videos have helped me hugely with my coaching and my archery and are recommended viewing
for my students! I believe a competent NLP therapist will be able to work with you to
resolve/dissolve the issue and allow you to be the awesome barebow archer we all know you to
    be!

Hey Jake, I would love to get your thoughts on what I’ve been attempting for a psych trigger with bare bow (and traditional). I’ve modeled my anchor point after yours, but I come to a “pre-anchor” before the string touches my nose. I then expand by sliding my hand along my jaw until the string touches my nose. That’s my psych trigger to fire. It’s working fairly well so far, but do you see any problems with this? Thank you so much for all the great info.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  Рік тому +1

Not any more issue than me inducing torque on my bow. However I think the sliding anchor may lend itself to more inconsistency down range compared to bow torque.
