Boy...I remember the modified bike coming in and a couple guys refusing to use it for a couple years....any horse moving to the modified dropped a couple seconds!!! Was amazing. Nothing like it since. If you knew how much it would change a horses time, you could have made a fortune back then. Then they came up with a bunch of other modified's, but nothing spectacular.....it was that big move from those heavy conventional bikes to the modified that really made a difference. At first, the marked the modified in the program....later, they marked the horses using the conventional with a "C" after his name. I think, but I'm not sure, that Joe O'brien was very late moving to the modified if he ever did. For some reason, I seem to remember his horses always using the conventional bike.

I watched the evolution of the sulky cause my dad was the Sulky Man. Nassau made so many different bikes for every driver and every horse.
