  • Join Alex Foreshew, Design Principal at Foreshew Design Associates, as he delves into the intricate design journey behind our Roberts Bay Projects on Lake Joseph. This project includes the preservation and modernization of a historic 1800s barn, complemented by a modern guest cottage and boathouse, with a two-storey garage to be added in the future.
Nestled on a 2.1-acre lot of Muskoka land, the Roberts Bay Projects sit elegantly on Lake Joseph. On the south-side waterfront, you'll discover a two-slip, two-storey boathouse and a guest cottage. On the opposite side of the peninsula, the Roberts Bay Cottage Project completes the picture, offering a comprehensive view of this stunning project, embodying the essence of the cottage season.
Embark on a journey to discover elegance and sophistication in the making at this Muskoka cottage construction tour on Lake Joseph.

Large roof over hangs are beautiful and protect the doors, windows and siding from rain and moisture damage.
Water is the enemy of buildings. Architects and home builders need to bring back large roof over hangs

Elegant looking design and forms. A respectful comment: buck the trend of dark grey cladding and trim and instead use an evergreen. It would meld better with the site, not be dated in 10 years, and amplify the wood trim/features.

I love the design and everthing...I just wondering instead of using wood is it possible to use concrete for the guest house...🤔🤔🤔

From a visual point of view I like flat roofs but in forest environments I see something that will fail in the future as that organic matter blocks up limited options to rain water sheading. From your 3D render the old barn doesn't look like an old building anymore, why keep the structure? Why not repurpose some of the better beams and feature lumber and be unlocked from the old buildings position and design?
Loved the boat house cladding, what the name/link of the product?

We love using alumum pannels because it's cheap. This is not a car part store in a industrial neighborhood. It's irrelevant! What's with a gabled roof over the entrance? Serves no purpose, doesn't add to the design. Flashy at best but really gives a cheap look to the building. No architect with self respect would ever do something like this.
