    So far, so good! I installed this fan yesterday. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh I've been watching a continuous radon monitor in my house for about a week, and the levels have been running between 4.5 and 7.9 pCi/L. Shortly after I installed this fan, the radon level started dropping, and in less than 24 hours since I installed it, the level is now 1.9. My basement is approximately 2,000 square feet. Total home square footage above basement is approximately 4,000 square feet. The noise level so far is very quiet. Mine is installed indoors, so I had to purchase a cord and connector. If I have any problems later, I'll update my review. But for now, I'm very pleased with it.Update after 48 hours: Using a constant monitor, my radon is now fluctuating between 0.38 and 0.45 pCi/L. I've moved the monitor to my basement and am getting a constant 0.43 reading. After 24 hours, and when I know the weather will be safe, I'll place the monitor outside for about 12 hours. I'm thinking that the 0.38 to 0.45 may be the outside "ambient" radon level. I'm using this monitor (purchased from Amazon): Corentium Home Radon Detector by Airthings 223

    It's 90 plus here in Ga in the summer. Even good insulated houses after the sun is beaming on the side of the house the walls will get warm not only the attic.I don't see how sucking in 90 air with humidity of 85 and 90% is going to help cool off my house in that. Don't forget sucking in all the extra humidity that a AC system actually takes out of the house, that might be an issue down here in Georgia for mold growing.

      Yeah, I also live here, some times it's still over 80 F when I go to bed.
      This would be good for places that get in the low 70's at night with little humidity but this wouldn't be any good in the middle of summer here if you have air conditioning.

    Every home we've owned I installed a whole house fan. We use it year round and run it all night during the summer. My neighbors are running their a/c 24/7 while I only run mine for a few hours when it's 100 or above. For example, today was 98, I'm running the fan at midnight and am really cold making it really cozy and we sleep much better. Saves $100 every month and also wear and tear on the a/c unit. On warm evenings when there's no breeze we have basically a wind tunnel from the open windows (on the cooler side of the house, east and north sides). It does get dusty but worth it. Easy to install and a must have.

    • @ArchGBUStanton
      @ArchGBUStanton Рік тому +1

      @@gadgetgrader Yes, belt driven. This type the motor is off to the side and quieter. The smaller and/or older models were straight shaft, meaning the motor was a lil larger and right above the center of the fan making it noisier. So belt driven is the quietest.

    This thing works well in dry climates and its 70 and dry, not so well when its 70 degrees and humid outside in the evenings. By the way, I live in San Diego CA and absolutely love ours all year long. It would not be practical in our South Texas property except in Fall when the humidity drops.

      @Archive It will help out regardless, circulating air is better than a stuffy house. But if its humid outside in the evening, I would likely be running air conditioning as opposed to a house fan. Someone below commented that you don't want to be pushing moisture into your attic for various reasons, they make a good point.

      I also live in San Diego and I am trying to figure out if I should purchase a whole house fan or attic fan. Would you happen to know if your whole house fan does a great job at pushing the hot air out of your attic? I’ve been told my some companies to just stick with the attic fans as whole house fans trap air in the attic.

    • @malcorub
      @malcorub 3 роки тому +2

      @@AndrePrado619 I have four of those silver roof turbines that you see on many houses....when I run my whole house fan, those things spin like crazy. That means the hair is being pushed out, I am sure some air stays trapped in the attic, but in my 8 years of having it haven't noticed any damage to the insulation or wood beams in my attic. I'm out in El Cajon, since getting the whole house fan, I run the AC maybe about 15 days per year since I can run the house fan all night long, turn it off first thing in the morning and close the windows to trap in the night's cold air.

    My father installed one of these in our home in Michigan when I was a kid and they are awesome! We would crack all the windows in the house open about 2 or 3 inches, turn it on, and the house would cool down in just minutes! Definitely plan on installing one in my new house in Tennessee. • @lanceguilin

      Ryan, the problem with just opening up windows is that it wouldn't help much with cooling down the hot air trapped in the attic. The whole house fan should cool down the whole house significantly faster than merely opening up windows.

    Also you mension alergies dont they have filters?

      I would expect that you would only open ground floor windows on the east side (away from setting sun in the shade of the house). That would pull the cooler air in and blow out the hot attic air. I don't own one of these yet, but I'm researching and considering it. Hope this makes sense.

    • @mdgraller
      @mdgraller 3 роки тому +1

      Nature abhors a vacuum. What you're doing is forcing air out of the house (the hottest air, as we know hot air rises) which leads to lower pressure inside the house. Since "nature abhors a vacuum," air will rush into the house to restore a balanced pressure between outside and inside. The idea or hope with a system like this is that the air that's rushing into the house will be cooler than the air that you're forcing out. This is pretty likely because most houses are insulated and the insulation, while great at retaining heat during colder months, will also tend to retain heat during warmer months, too, especially if the sun is beaming down on your house. What you'd want to do is turn this on overnight (most likely) or really whenever the outside air is cooler than inside. You wouldn't want to turn on your AC, cool your house down to 10+ degrees cooler than outside, then turn on a whole-house fan and suck all of that cooled air out, to get replaced by outside air.
      As for your PC, the idea is partly the same with one caveat. With your PC, you definitely want to use exhaust fans to suck the hottest air out of the system and intake fans to pull in cooler air, but common advice with PC builds is that you want slightly *positive* pressure overall; if you have too much exhaust and not enough intake, you'll end up with negative pressure inside the case and (again, "nature abhors a vacuum") the difference will be made up by air flowing in from elsewhere in the case, small cracks or slots that aren't designed for airflow and have no filtration which = *dust*.

    I live in MA, where a whole house fan is a great idea for 85% of the warm weather months (sometimes, you just gotta get the humidity OUT of the air). Three years ago, I had a roofing contractor put in 70 (!) soffit vents, and then the Energy Star people came and insulated and sealed the house. They added Propavents to my attic, plus a snazzy insulated hatch door that seals onto a gasket (WOO)! It's a newer roof with no gables, with ridge vents along the entire top. My worry about getting a whole house fan is that I will be pushing interior air into a wall of resistance in the attic; that ridge vent can only let so much air out. Is it worth investigating?

    • @marklarson2299
      @marklarson2299 4 роки тому

      I'd live in Minnesota and I just installed Whole House Fan my attic has a powered attic vent so maybe if you need something like that to get more airflow in your attic to let the hot air out. The PDF file for some of these whole-house fans tell you how many cubic feet of air flow you need in the Attic area to expel the hot air I have soffit vents power roof vent as well as couple of traditional roof vents. Just put it in last weekend it works great who is 88 degrees upstairs 78 on the main level turn it on in the evening by the morning it was 67 on Main level 70 upstairs outside temperature was 63 in morning.
