Thank you Scott for your video. So glad you made the trip. South Portland is where I'm from and yes it is a great place to photograph along with Acadia Ntl Pk.
It varies ... for me, the first choice is depth of field. How much do I want? At the ocean, f/11 is a good starting point (f/16 is OK, although with atmospherics, it may not buy additional sharpness for the background). Then may add filters for a particular look on the water. Slightly longer exposures add some motion.
Thank's Scott. This place is superb for photography. I had the chance several times to take photos and it's always interresting the skies are alway's different....
I'm down to 2 states that I haven't visited and Maine is one of them. I'll make it within a couple of years. Liked the composition, you got lucky with the conditions which seemed quite nice from the video.
Did you happen to catch any of the other lighthouses in Portland? It's a great little area to shoot at. Glad you had great conditions - looks like a rather nice sunrise!
As much as I wanted to... not enough time. I had to get myself to Acadia right after sunrise to do final prep and scouts for a workshop the next day. Something to look forward to on my next visit :)
Beautiful photo, Scott! Totally agree that is such a beautiful location! How early were you able to get into the park? I know the hours are “sunrise to sunset”. Was it right at sunrise?
Hi David... correct on the hours. Gates usually open at sunrise. Sometimes the gates are opened a little earlier than sun up. Either way, that early it’s a short drive into the area and a short walk to the rock faces for the photos. Need to be focused, but it’s not a mad dash.
Been a bunch of years… gates open at sunrise, you’re at the mercy of the keepers to open the gate. I had plenty of time to park and position before the sun broke. Don’t recall about paying to park/visit … and it’s been a few years, might have changed. Enjoy your visit!
The sunrise shots are awesome 😄
Thanks! 😃

Both sure are great. And I'm here in Oregon with our (now) mutual friend, Glenda. Greetings from Bandon :-)
@@ScottDavenport Very nice - small world. Tell her hello and she is missed.
Beautiful images!
Thank you, Mike :)
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Portland Head Light.
Cheers, Gary!
I love that place.
I really enjoyed it, too, Peter.
Scott, can you give us any tips on camera settings for the beautiful photos you took that morning of Portland head? I realize it varies?

I can imagine how different it can be... seasonal changes, too.

Skies were great that day. And Maine is an excellent state for photography.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to New England.
I hope you went around to the other side as well to shoot.
Sure did enjoy it. Thanks!
What lens did you use for this photo?
Hi Rick... it's the Sony 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS on a Sony A7Rii. Filters are the Haida M10.

I’m going there in a couple weeks. I am planning on going there early for sunrise. Is there someone on duty there ? Do you have to pay that early?
