The anime has much needed depth to many of these scenes. The Netflix adaptation is great. But it would’ve been even better if they had extra 2 episodes for runtime instead of 8.

About Zeff's behaviour after learning Sanji cooked whithout his permission, you should watch that scene again. The one where Luffy tells him about it. His reaction is there, immediately after Luffy tells him that, he seems proud of Sanji. I don't know how you guys missed that.

Yes you missed something. When luffy "told on" Sanji for cooking for that man, Zeff didn't get angry. He said "He did that did he? What a good kid" as he smiled.
Yeah they sort of missed that last episode didn't they. But I remember even in the Anime Manga etc it's a little confusing zeff is so gruff at the beginning for a minute you think he's just a cranky old man. Then you see a few glimpses then the backstory.
This was the only time they refered to each other by their first name. They’ve been calling each other “Little Eggplant” and “Shitty Old Man” ever since they met.

This is late, but I generally see the anime as convenient for added details.
Depth of emotional feels though? I mean yes, it has that, but the level doesn't match up to the visceral feeling of the LA (and manga), because the anime just... drags, even at its best. That feeling takes away from it all tbh
As a Sanji fan, I always thought it was quite interesting how similar Sanji is to Luffy (having both their father figures lose a limb for them & the belief in something intangible). I quite like the idea that, while Zoro embodies the Pirate King part of Luffy's dream, that requires strength & ambition, Sanji embodies the other part, that requires a different type of strength - continuing to believe in something ethereal, despite many people challenging your dream telling you to give it up.
I wouldn't go as far as Luffy thinking of Shanks as a father figure with Sanji though I'd agree Zeff is hid father though

One piece is very deep, there are a lot of things happening outside from the straw hats in their world. With the world government, ancient kingdom war, missing 100years of history etc
Honesty i think the crew get more tanky just due to Luffy's lack of injury awareness. Also Buggy is perfect in this show

Zeff built restaurant in the middle of the ocean with those gold so he can feed whoever is hungry in the middle of ocean. "Feed anyone who is hungry" "don't waste food" are shared value between zeff and sanji.

The manga/anime goes into a lot more detail about a lot of things, but whenever they assume it does about something, it doesnt 😂
If u keep watching the anime soon u'll see Sanji is the most interesting character with deep emotions, huge back story, without spoiling having seen so many of ur reactions id guess he would be your favorite because of that, had it not been for his simpeness in the anime he would probably be majority favorite

They changed the story in the anime due to the fact that it's children watching and even less blood in the battles
I noticed both of you guess if someone newly introduced has some ability or power but quick reminder that not everyone in op is packing some devil fruit power ability and more than likely those in positions of power without one can be more powerful than those with one. Think of some of them just being well experienced and trained in methods to work against devil fruit powers
Oh the wonderful world is so damn cool. you're really like it. No characters shown. Just shows you the world and atmosphere. Maybe you might see some characters but not in detail, no context, just designs. I can't remember if there are characters or not tbh.

Personally I think two future crew members have better ones (or at least more emotional ones). ESPECIALLY a certain demon. But Sanji's is really good. And all the added cake made it even better.

It’s robin for me and nami close second . Watching your mother get shot and thinking you don’t deserve to live are two of the most horryfying expiriences. Sanji’s story is extremely tragic as well but he gets closure and finds a father figure. Nami and robin just lost everything they can never regain

Sanji has the best backstory in One Piece? I could see an argument for that, but it’s very early in the show to claim that. Although, you haven’t met several characters, let alone learned their backstories. But also, there is still more to learn about Sanji… Arguably better than what you saw here.
It’s almost like the backstories keep escalating as each appears.
Luffy - Mentor lost an arm.
Usopp - Dad’s at sea, Mum dies in front of him.
Zoro - Makes a promise with a friend, she dies before she gets a chance to try to keep her end of it, he takes on the dream for her sake as well as his own.
Sanji - Loses people he knew and starves on a rock formation, then learns the man who saved him sacrificed a limb to give him a better chance of survival (either anime or manga version).
Nami - (won’t get into it as it’s coming up)
Yes you are right the anime goes much more in depth. It makes a lot more sense in the anime, for example why zoro has a lot of respect and loyalty to Luffy that just isn't as present in the live action. not shitting on the LA its still great but if you guys ever watch the anime you will see

Running joke is Nami’s jugs get bigger after every arc in OP manga and anime. Reason is this is a boys manga according to Oda lol! Question is, is Emily Rudd going to method act starting in season 2? Emily is perfect for season 1 but a trip the boob factory may be in order for season 2.

Zeff eating his leg was adapted straight from the manga. In the anime they changed it so he loses the leg while swimming from the sinking ship.

At the end of the scene where Luffy tells Zeff about Sanji feeding Gin, Zeff responds with "He did that huh? Well, good kid".
Its not emphasized as much in LA, but Zeff and Sanji built the Baratie to feed sailors who are starving, given that they still need to maintain costs. They care very much about not wasting food. Sanji would have respected Zoro for eating the rice ball that had been stepped on.

i have to get my hat off to Oda writing, even with the rushed job in the live action and reducing sanji time on screen compared to the anime, people still cry at the goodbye at the end.

Taz Skylar trained for a long time so him being jacked is not surprising;also when you watch the anime,they changed the leg eating thing because it would have been too gruesome i guess for young audience.

- the goodbye is way more emotional than this one
- why Sanji is feeding the dude starving is even more obvious
- Zeff explains a part of your questions directly to Luffy while they share time on the Baratie
24:00 No man, that scene, when Zoro chose to be with Luffy until the end... MAN, that scene gives you chills and tears even past the 1000 episodes. Whenever you hear those words, Zoro crying (japanese dub, OF COURSE) ... man, i can't explain the pride and emotions you feel :((((

With Zoro, you have to remember the one friend thing and his mentor. That's all he had. Then he went out to sea and was alone. So Luffy is the first person that has LEGIT wanted to be close to him since Kuina. That's a big thing for him and he's never experienced it since he was young so it hit him hard because he avoids serious connections...and Luffy just knows it's bullshit and Zoro is accepting it.
Johnny and Yosaku?
They were bounty hunting partners. They even tried to interfere in Mihawk and Zoro's fight, but Luffy held them down. Zoro becomes 100% loyal after that fight, because he knows that Luffy will respect his ultimate goal more than his life@@DreiCortavoyz

The restaurant was Zeff's dream after they got stranded (he talks about it in the manga flashback), he wanted people to find a place to eat at even while in the middle of the sea. Sanji felt very indebted to him and that's why he refused to leave all that time despite how much Zeff pushed him away, he felt the need to protect it, while Zeff wanted him to follow his dream. The Baratie arc was different from the manga, but the actors for Sanji and Zeff were perfect, amazing chemistry.
Nothing is late, I started loving Godfather trilogy when I'm 25 in 2019, and still a masterpiece to this day which can't be replace no matter how many decades has passed. One piece is the same, welcome to the journey.
Fun facts:
1. Emily Rudd (Nami's actress) was 4 years old when ONE PIECE debuted in July 1997.
2. Jamie Lee Curtis wants to play a character in Season 2.
Your reaction at the end answers exactly why there are so much episodes on One Piece. The anime takes the time to go deep in the stories, the feelings, the explanations, the bonding between the crew members and as I can see you're all for it. So there it is, the reason why it is so good and why you should watch the anime.

So happy to see you really falling in love with OP! At first glance it may seen just a silly anime but it goes sooooo deep! I've never cried for anything as much as I have with One Piece, and at the same time is the story that made me laugh the most too, It is insane!
Probably my favorite episode of season 1. I also love how they did the manga version and not the anime version (since the anime version was meant for kids and Zeff loses his leg another way and not cutting it off himself and eating it cause that would be too much for kids). Also how this whole Baratie Arc (these 2 last episodes in the live action) is totally different than in the anime/manga.
Let’s make sure not to Spoil new viewers! It’s a deep moment for everyone to experience exactly how we have experienced before ❤

This is better in the live action than anime imo. They expanded it a bit more and gave more time to it. I also think it captured the darkness more than the anime does.
Sanji, Brook, and Law have prob the best backstories. I enjoy all of them, but those 3 are a bit darker and show the dangers of being on the high sea.
@@rakhatthenut3815 It would have probably seemed too OTT. Having him still weeping while expressing his gratitude still works for a live action context, while the way it was done in the manga and anime works for them.
Sanji's backstory is the most manga accurate. And in the Anime was change about zeff's leg. Episode 5 and 6 are my favourite episodes.
FYI for those who thought it's because 4kids cencorship: In Anime, Zeff's leg got stuck in an anchor when saving Sanji underwater. And he never said he ate his own leg.
In anime what Sanji Said in Japanese Dub:
"Doshita no yo? so no ashi?
(What happened? Severed Leg?)
Omae... Ore o tasukeru tame ni... Jibun no ashi...
(You... To help me... Own leg...)".
Then Sanji remembered what happened.

The anime censored Sanji’s backstory. Same with Luffy.
Zoro is actually not inspired by Luffy..he sees Luffy as equal, and so does Luffy..they both have a huge dream. Zoro vowed to protect Luffy's dream right after Luffy defended Zoro's...that was in itself acknowledgement that Luffy is worthy of being called his captain.
This is just 40% of Sanji's Backstory, bring napkins and with Zoro-Luffy, you'll see.
