I love the slight lisp in this doctor’s voice, so cute! But he’s got good control, that “one taste and I want the whole thing” just warmed my heart! His swells remind me a little bit of Norbert Leo Butz. Katherine is just a gem, her singing is so emotive :)
You’re spot on! The lisp grounds the character beautifully, & the women do such a great job together. Is Dawn in the London show the same actress as was in Toronto’s show?
ok, the doc's lisp is just ADORABLE. and how did he do that thing with his face where he totally became the OBGYN reminiscing and falling in love and getting awkward. HOW. it's just a FACE.
A Soft Place to Land is my favourite song in the show; it just makes me cry every time I hear it. There’s something about it that’s just so pure and beautiful, yet honest and heartbreaking that just resonates so much with anyone going through any kind of struggle. It’s that line, ‘when your breaking point’s all that you have’... oh my god, that just sums up how I’ve felt so many times. A beautiful song, in a truly magical show 🥧💕✨
Well I would personally say this doctor isn't the worst he's pretty good, but he is not even on the level of Drew Gehling. Drew's performance is very angsty, awkward, and energetic. On top of that he truly is the original doctor so he really set a standard for the character that I don't think anyone could beat.
I think it's because he lacked the discomfort that Drew Gehling brought to the stage. In Drew's performance, you really get the idea that what they're doing is cheating but with the doctor here, Waitress suddenly becomes a romcom
I’ve seen both Drew and this guy and let me just say his performance in the show is miles above what it is in this rehearsal - he’s definitely my favourite Pomatter! I must say, though - he and Kat don’t have much chemistry... I saw him with Lucie and aside from me far preferring her as Jenna, their chemistry was absolutely off the charts
this is beautiful but wow british people doing southern accents is a lot on the ears oh my, not bc theyre bad at singing (theyre amazing) its just so many accents happening at once wow
i love the cast of this one more than the new york one. The docter in this one seems more nerdy and the lisp brings a cute sense to his character. Kats version of jenna has more energy in this one and you can tell just from this video
Seeing this has made me even more excited to see in this April. I honestly can't wait, this will be my first ever West end show. I was so obsessed with this musical I booked tickets before casting was even announced so you couldn't imagine my absolute delight that Katherine would be playing Jenna (she did the role on Broadway and I loved her in scorpion and smash aswell) and David Hunter would be Dr.P he's been in many amazing musical but most recently was kinky boots). I am excited to see how the cast takes on there roles in this especially Oggie cuz I have quite a soft spot for his character lol.
Kat suits the role so so well. I do agree though that she sounds rough here and seems to have issues with the higher notes. She's probably just exhausted and was also on vocal rest before this so I hope and think that she'll fully smash this role!
Been a fan of Kat McPhee since American Idol. Always excited to her in new projects, but I haven't been this excited to see her in a role before. She's perfect as Jenna. London is very lucky to have her.
♥ I so love this musical, i've seen it in NYC in april 2017 and still listening it. I'm so happy they take the courage to export it in EU where I live ♥ love u all
I absolutely love Katharine McPhee but I understand she just got off vocal rest before doing this role in London. However, I understand marking but her voice appears a bit detached, unsupported, and troubled in some of these moments. Trust me, as a performer and private instructor, I’m speaking purely on qualitative vocal health. She is insanely gifted and I definitely can understand the shifting of allergens from New York to London, traveling, singing 7-8 shows a week, etc. I’m rooting for her.
Yeah I can hear the shakiness and nasal or throaty sound on some of those difficult notes, I'm also a trained vocalist so It's hard not to notice those things. But she clearly has an incredible voice nonetheless.
Saw the show a few days ago in London, and I must say she sounded fantastic! I’m going back this Monday - I’m a little late to the party but man I love this show!
......I don’t get the point of your comment? are you saying you think she’s gonna damage her voice? I think her years of experience, her mom and her man would prevent that
Sarah W I actually never mentioned that she’d hurt her voice and I never said that she shouldn’t do this. I communicated what I heard in this video as a singer and as an instructor of voice. I, too, celebrated her beautiful voice and said that I’m rooting for her. It’s common, as I mentioned, when traveling and just getting off vocal rest to have a little bit of a slow start considering the varying variables of weather, illness, allergies, etc. The voice needs time to recover and I acknowledged in just getting off vocal rest I could hear the restrictions within her voice here. That’s all. Have a wonderful evening!
Sugar Sugar, butter, flour Sometimes I still see her My mother the dreamer She'd say, "Nothing's impossible child" A dream needs believing To taste like the real thing Like some stranger you recognize So pure, so pure, so electric So sure, so sure, so connected To those little believers inside May we all be so lucky But dreams are elusive The kind we've gotten used to Is nothing I can feel Nothing I can hold Nothing I can have Nothing that I know Dreams come and they go But hold them and keep them And know that you need them When your breaking point's all that you have A dream is a soft place to land May we all be so lucky Sugar, butter, flour
When i saw this song on broadway with shoshana I was literally sobbing and I don’t know why. In the context of the story this song just fits so beautifully Edit: im talking about a soft place to land
Because the premise of the show takes place in a southern small town, I just assume and am used to seeing a blonde Jenna but Katherine is so amazing that I wish I could see it again. I saw this with Jesse Mueller in LA and it blew me away!
@@AbigailJoyyy Good to know! Although, I think it would be interesting to see a dark haired Jenna as opposed to the blonde we've always seen. That being said, hair color doesn't matter. It's the talent that does 😉
Why does she have to be blonde? There are plenty of brunettes in small southern towns and an African American woman with dark hair actually played her on broadway recently. Her character and storyline don’t require any particular look.
@@jacosa_lave I never stated or insisted that Jenna HAD to be a blonde white woman. Stereotypically, most outsiders (outsiders meaning not living in the USA) think all Southerners are blonde. Add to the fact the original Jenna in the movie is in fact blonde, doesn't help that stereotype. I am very aware that there are other ethnic groups living in the American south and did like the change of one of Jenna's co-workers as African American - a change from the movie (she was a thin white woman in the movie). Since Katherine is darker haired, I think it was better to just keep her natural hair as opposed to giving her a wig, but it seems Sara Bareilles and crew wanted Jenna to be consistent with the titular character even though she made all sorts of changes like changing Joe to a black man, then later making Joe a woman and even once made Jenna an African American woman. I would prefer that you not twist my words to suit your narrative or to just assume things.
Allison Tran I’m not sure what narrative you’re referring to. I didn’t insult or accuse you of anything. It was a simple reply to what you stated about expecting a southerner to be blonde. I think if you re-read my response with the positive intent that was meant, you’ll see I wasn’t attacking you or arguing for any sort of “narrative”.
Hi, I live in Scotland, and I really want to watch this musical with Katharine McPhee, Jessie Mueller and Sara Bareilles. bring this musical to Scotland and bring them please. I'm a fan of this musical and I'm a fan of them
7:05 Jenna sounds rusty, however I won’t judge actors based on one performance. I have high hopes and I’m sure this cast will be brilliant despite sounding a little off throughout this video, not sure if that’s just me though? x
Stephi Davies Aww, I hope the rehearsal process isn’t wearing her voice out too much, it must be incredibly tiring on your vocal cords to be singing so often, not to mention then going into an 8 show week!
I love the slight lisp in this doctor’s voice, so cute! But he’s got good control, that “one taste and I want the whole thing” just warmed my heart! His swells remind me a little bit of Norbert Leo Butz. Katherine is just a gem, her singing is so emotive :)
Totally agree! He reminds me more or Norbert when he was in Big Fish!
You’re spot on! The lisp grounds the character beautifully, & the women do such a great job together. Is Dawn in the London show the same actress as was in Toronto’s show?
@@CK_Loves_Tea this is a bit awkward but the actor actually has a lisp it’s not a character choice
David Hunter, he was the guy we saw and was brilliant.

what is up with this black and white? i wanna see their beauty in full color damn it!
It’s so annoying
Aw I like it
How tf did I not realize it was in black and white until this comment-
I like it
Jews believe that the past was in black and white.

Doctor Potmatter's lisp is cute AF.
Love listening to Diane Paulus talk about Waitress & Getting a taste of the London cast. Excited to finally see Waitress next month.
yopyopo !! Right It gave me everything I’ve ever wanted !!
Katherine is a queen
Yes, Katharine is a queen of taking care of old men.(David Foster)
i really really love the doctor here!! i some comments here saying they don’t like him and i don’t know why!!!

not to be dramatic but i really would die for david hunter

wow was i high when i commented jesus
It's no different to Americans trying to do a Londoners accent tho. Hearing accents isn't easy
I wonder how making baking ingredients they use during each show
In a matter of one song I'm in love with that man singing "It only takes a taste".
That's how I felt, when I saw him live two days ago😍😅
i love the cast of this one more than the new york one. The docter in this one seems more nerdy and the lisp brings a cute sense to his character. Kats version of jenna has more energy in this one and you can tell just from this video
DAVID'S VOICE CRACKS ARE PERFECT
Bah I’ve seen the show with Jessie Mueller and Sara Bareilles, but didn’t get to with Kat McPhee I’m jealous. Wish I could fly to London.
codieme I saw Sara twice. Once last year and last Tuesday. She’s incredible!
Helen YIM saw her way back in 2015 because I couldn’t get Hamilton Tickets; best decision ever.
I saw it on bway with Katharine she was INSANELY amazing
Yo, share the love😂
Idk who I saw but I met the lady that plays dawn
Ya, know I’m starting to think they might not just be taking about pie
rEaLLy??😂
That’s the best Dr. I’ve ever seen.
Oh my goodness, this cast is beautiful. Can't wait to see the show on 9th May, its so far away but I know it will be worth the wait!
I hope you have a great time!!!
Today is the day ! Excited for you!!!
I’m seeing it 10 of September I’ve seen it in the west end now seeing it in broadway on the 10 of the September my bday can’t wait
i saw katherine as jenna, she was amazing. amazing.
You can totally hear pomatters English accent trying to get out lol
Tiffany Marie where? im not picking it up
amelia cool I hear it more towards the end of the song, especially on the line “flavors mixed and melted”
Tiffany Marie i guess i heard it in “flavours” but i don’t think one word being a bit off is too bad hehe
amelia cool not bad at all! I’m horrible with accents lol
I noticed it too. But he's great

Adam Efimoff okay, but people have opinions too.

The guy playing the doctor is great!! Super cute and authentic
TBH every person who played doctor pom pom and Jenna are amazing 🖤🥧
Holy-- David is so perfect for Dr Pomatter
You are welcome to continue posting the remainder of the show for our consumption! Thanks.
Every time I watch any version of 'what baking can do' I internally judge their baking abilities...
David Hunter is just adorable and has an amazing voice😍😘
Gosh i need to start saving up for tickets
@@anna-michellecourshon505 awww thats so sad :(

I love the black and white. So much more interesting and inviting.
Love David Hunter, so glad that he's in this cast! ❤

Went to see this cast back in February and they were amazing!
Wanted to cry after the first song 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Karen Cartwright!!!! Ahhh!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Sugar
Sugar, butter, flour
Sometimes I still see her
My mother the dreamer
She'd say, "Nothing's impossible child"
A dream needs believing
To taste like the real thing
Like some stranger you recognize
So pure, so pure, so electric
So sure, so sure, so connected
To those little believers inside
May we all be so lucky
But dreams are elusive
The kind we've gotten used to
Is nothing I can feel
Nothing I can hold
Nothing I can have
Nothing that I know
Dreams come and they go
But hold them and keep them
And know that you need them
When your breaking point's all that you have
A dream is a soft place to land
May we all be so lucky
Sugar, butter, flour
If I had the money I would fly to London just to see this show. These actors have such great chemistry and work beautifully together.
