Judith Moore A truly brilliant film. Very well produced, excellent acting, a great real life story, which was riveting. You cannot beat the 1950' era the best in the film industry.
Old, Black and White yet it blows away anything Hollywood produces today, excellent movie with continued suspense right to the end. It also does a good job at showing the mistrust of the German high command during the war.
Jack Hawkins one of the finest British actors ever. One by one the finest of such are dying and hopefully their movies will continue to be available to keep their memory alive.
An absolutely bloody fantastic film . Wow , if that was true it was amazing and would make a great today . I would love to see a modern day version , jack Hawkins was wonderful.... RIP
I love watching older pictures that had characters with character; no plastic surgery to make faces seem similar. Back when humans looked 'real' on the screen.
Thank you very much for this classic from Hollywood Jack Hawkins was a great actor from 50's I remember Land of Pharaons a great picture too ! Again thanks for a good remember. Daniel, from Uruguay.
Robbie Dellinger They're not old, Robbie - completely relevant to whats happening now or could happen as they're legend. Completely relevant to the timeless issues always confronting us - dictators wanting to subjugate peoples.
Oh how nerve wrecking it is over the constant fear of them getting caught. Heart is in my throat, edge of your seat. Intense right down to the last minute. I can't imagine the joy in the streets when Germany surrendered, what a day of celebration in the world. Thank God for men like Scotland (British Intelligence Service)!
Thank You for posting One of the best WW2 films produced Hawkins and the rest of the actors outstanding RIP to all from all wars and may we see PEACE before we die. Pax+
I watched these movies growing up in the 50's and 60's and I loved them. I love spy movies. Movies today don't even compare, young people don't know what they missed back then. Especially television. Now it's nothing but idiotic reality shows.
soso.. it was all too obviously written to be a tension movie. I guess i am a little disappointed that the beautiful woman died. I think such western beauty no longer exist. Now if a woman is anything as good looking she will either be a selfish self centered feminist or a bitch psycho.
Very well done. Impressive. Story/acting excellent. I find it difficult to believe that a Gnrl could b a spy but then again....might b less undr suspicion ?? Suspenseful entertainment through the end 👍
By jove you are right! As he had his back to us when he entered, his voice was unmistakable as also a bit of profile. A glimpse of him when he left completely confirmed it.
What a great movie,,,,,Jack Hawkins and Gia Scala were fantastic. As well as the other actors. I didn't know anything about the spy that Mr. Hawkins played. But I'd like to know more about it....bookwise, if anyone has a bio or documentary of this fellow, I would appreciate some info to such.
Movie maintained the tension the Jack Hawkins character must have felt very well throughout film. The general never had a moment of relief. Hawkins pulled this one off well., very talented.
Good movie , plot not so obvious . Don't ever recall a General being an agent from any armed forces in any film. Skulduggery with watchmaker contact was great , didn't flinch at all when he died. True credit too British intelligence 👍
One of the best Black&White WW2 movie like British Intelligence, Pimpernel Smith etc,.The heroine herein was 2nd important character(German spy) in the movie'Guns of Navarone'
@@johnrayner1643 Oh how little some know!!! This was the Battle for the Ardennes, and the Germans had done an excellent job in infiltrating the American Lines dressed and equipped with Allied uniforms and arms. OK, it might be a little stretch of the imagination, but with Commonwealth soldiers fighting alongside the Amis, it's not that much of a stretch! If you compare this one-off, low-budget film with the long-running Ami series of "Combat," (see them all here on UA-cam), every episode of the latter was cause for uproarious laughter, due to so many errors and faux pas in every episode - wrong uniforms, wrong equipment and weaponry, no insignia, British soldiers wearing American boots, gaiters and webbing, British officers wearing American caps, unlimited supplies of ammunition that they weren't carrying, Tommy guns that killed the enemy at hundreds of yards, but rifles that hit everything except the right targets! Same buildings used in most of the 150 episodes, and...wait for it....the ubiquitous tree trunks that featured in well over 120 episodes. Did someone say they spotted a tiny error in this otherwise excellent film?

at 55.54 the weapon turns from a Sten to an MP38/40 and back to a Sten (the Germans did of course produce copies of the Sten but mainly for the Volkssturm)
How about Olivier, Peter Sellers, O'Toole, Richard Burton, Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Daniel Day Lewis, Ben Kingsley, Alec Guinness and Cary Grant?
A message to those who were involved with this film although I know they may never read it. Here I am in 2019 watching a film that was made over 60 years ago and I enjoyed it far more than most films made today. The film strikes up tension and atmosphere using great acting, producing and storytelling rather than CGI etc. Thank you. I enjoyed it thoroughly. God bless.
Great WWII film! Jack Hawkins as always one of Britain's best actors.
This little known flick had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Absolutely top-notch.
It was garbage.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kwdef. not!
This was superb!
Edge-of-the-seat thriller, indeed! Jack Hawkins, Felix Aylmer, Gia Scala!
Brilliant movie. Jack Hawkins was as usual superb.
A real nail biter. Jack Hawkins superb as always and Gia Scala, the most beautiful actress ever giving a fine performance.
Enchanting eyes, absolutely gorgeous
What a movie! A gem! A real piece of art! One of the best war/spy movies I've ever seen!!!
Jack Hawkins played great the next year 1959 in 'The Bridge on the River Kwai.'
Jack Hawkins was Colonel in the Royal Welch Fusilliers in WW2. The real deal. RIP

Well suited playing An Officer'
An excellent movie by any standard. A glimpse into what real hero’s and heroism actually look like.
That comment was meant to be a reply. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and however much is true or fiction it paints a great picture of the era.

Why are you shouting?
Another movie from my collection
The officer on the left who comes in to check the lady at 1.01 hour is Michael Caine.
Thanks, Wilson, for ID'g Caine. Listen carefully to his voice; the semi-Cockney accent confirms it.

56 minute mark interesting jump from, a STEN to an MP_40 back to a STEN..
Well spotted. What was a German doing with a Sten anyway?
It's not odd really..the sten is copied off the mp40 just a highly simplified version to replace the exp Thompson sub mg
I'm impressed that he made it back up the hill and wonder why he had to go to the front to transmit
