Checking out the prices of almond yogurt at a local grocery store, I found prices ranging from 34 cents per ounce to 35 cents per ounce, for large and small size containers. The best price was on the Silk brand for unsweetened vanilla, which was $4.59 for 24 ounces, or 19 cents per ounce. At the same store, I purchased a 16 ounce (by weight) bag of raw almonds for $6. Checking out the "cups to weight-in-ounces conversion", 1 cup of almonds equals 4.58 ounces in weight. The bag of almonds cost me 37 1/2 cents per ounce. Multiply that by 4.58 ounces for 1 cup, and to make this batch of yogurt cost me $1.70. I ended up with about 24 liquid ounces of almond yogurt, which means it cost me 7 cents per ounce to make it myself! There is a little more cost since I added the other ingredients shown in the Recipe Ingredients list below, but those costs are negligible and might bring the total cost to 8 cents to 10 cents per ounce, depending on the actual cost of those other ingredients. ✅ RECIPE INGREDIENTS * 1 cup Raw Almonds (not roasted or salted) * 3 cups filtered Water, divided * 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup * 1/2 tsp Agar Agar Powder * 3 Tbsp Tapioca Starch * 4 Probiotic capsules that are 25 billion CFU After you make a batch of almond milk yogurt, you can set aside 1/4 cup of the yogurt as a starter for your next batch and skip adding the probiotic powder. Thank you very much, i will try this recipe. Also in my country almond yogurt and all vegan yogurts are so expensive and for me yogurt is essential is the only thing i miss when i was eating dairies.
If you don’t add the tapioca starch and agar agar to the mixture and then once fermented strain it like you would a Greek yogurt do you still get a thick product? I am not fond of any additives to yogurts as those gums make me a bit queasy. Sea weed is ok , but not sure about that tapioca starch. Looks like a fabulous recipe, thank you for sharing. I will give it a try. And you definitely rock 64! 😮
Today i made the yogurt, it came out big success, very creamy, delicious, the only problem, i don t know what i did wrong the quantity came less than yours in the video. And i put three cups of water. i will find the solution next time that i will make it.
@@gloryb-tv yes, something went wrong, it came out one cup of yogurt. next time i will see, but the taste and the texture is really good, much better than the yogurts of the market.
@pp71504 the syrup replaces the lactose. The good bacteria feeds on sugar and ferments it. There should be none left if you ferment it long enough. See fermentation websites.
I have a question about adding leftover yogurt to a new batch. Is it the yogurt from the refrigerator going to cool down the yogurt that is now at 110°? I mean, how do I add from the old batch of yogurt to the new batch. Should I leave the existing old batch yogurt out to get to room temperature Thank you very much
@@gloryb-tv thank you very much! I was wondering about the maple syrup. Is this like yeast bread where the sugars get eaten up by the fermentation? Because I’m on a low carb no sugar diet. Thank you very very much. Can’t wait to make this.
@@judysbakeryandtestkitchen1654 I don't know. Since you're on a no sugar diet, I'm guessing a doctor or nutritionist put you on the "no sugar", in which case I suggest asking that person if adding 1 tablespoon of maple syrup to what ends up being about 3 cups of yogurt will be harmful for you.
The fermentation should eat up the sugar. Lactose in animal milk is milk sugar. Starches are also sugar. I'd cut them out, personally and enjoy fermented products. @judysbakeryandtestkitchen1654

I don't know why it would taste weird. You don't mean it tastes sour, right? Like any other plain yogurt tastes sour? When I was learning to make yogurt from almond milk, soy milk, & cashew milk, I had one or two bad batches, mainly because it was too liquid-y and not thick enough. Did you sterilize the jar first? I don't think so. Those are the thickener ingredients.
Try adding some coconut oil. It will thicken when chilled. I was that in a similar recipe but haven't tried it yet.

Hi! Is it necessary to add syrup as I try to avoid sugar..
You can try it without the maple syrup to see if you like the taste.

COULD WE DO THE SAME AND ADD 25-30GRAMS (PER LITER) OF GREEK YOGURT INSTEAD OF PREBIOTIC? SINCE I HAVE NO CONCERN OF MAKING IT PLANT BASED OR ANYTHING

You add the starter yogurt to the new yogurt before you put the new yogurt in the oven (or wherever you're going to put it).
