Always interesting always informative, some of the real technical stuff does go over my head at times but i try not to miss one. I built my average system up before I retired and unless lady luck calls with the right numbers I can't see me changing any of the major components, but this remains such an interesting UA-cam channel. Keep it up Tarun.
Excellent balanced review. Its a good example of how breakout products like the Eversolo force other manufacturers to up their game. One thing to mention perhaps is that the linear power supply mod Alvin's company produces does give the Eversolo a degree of upgradeability the other two lack.
Fab review, liked and subscribed. I still have the original CA streamer CXN v1. But tbh I haven’t used it for a while… What I expext: headphone amp, EQ and most of all: a track record of excellent and long-lasting driver and firmware support. And yes, for these reasons my DAC is RME. If only it also was a streamer 😂
Thank you. Really appreciate you explanation of clock sources for USB vs. SPDIF. Been around higher end audio for multiple decades and still have things to learn/understand. Thanks again!
I bought the CXN100 recently (as a refurbished device with a goood price) To answer your question: What I am missing is 12V Trigger Out. I do have a Cambridge Audio Amp and therefore can make use of the Control Bus to switch on the amp by turning on the CXN100 remotely, however if I were to switch out the amp to one from a different manufacturer, I loose that ability. And 12V trigger out is just a more broadly available interface to do that.
Thank you Tarun, for being highly critical but fair. It's nice to know how the sound quality of modern streaming components can vary drastically depending on the components they're paired with. As any given system is upgraded, one has to be cognizant of any downstream changes in clarity, warmth and brightness to the overall system. And you articulate that very well for prospective buyers. Cheers!
Wonderful review with great advice and comparisons. I feel like i need to get a pontus 2, r26, or altair g 1.1, but i love the sub 1000 dollar category. I keep wishfully hoping a product like the node x, cxn or dmp a6 comes along a ABA says it is as good as the next tier....but he hasn't done that. No giant killers here. My best bet is to pick up one of the next tier dacs on sale or used i guess.
I'm seriously considering the purchase of one of these products, so, thank you for another great review. I agree that HDMI eARC and USB to connect to an outboard DAC are very important features in this category. A built-in display isn't important to me; I'd gladly sacrifice that in favor of higher-quality parts to improve audio quality. If you aren't finished with products that compete in this space, I'd love to see your review of the FiiO R7 or R9. Thanks again, Tarun!
Nice review, Tarun. I’m perfectly happy with my ifi Zen Stream set to dedicated Tidal Connect mode. No screen, no dac, just a pair of lights to indicate readiness to operate. Just wish it didn’t drop out now and again.
Thanks for the video. Appreciate the insight into the build quality and internal components. The comparisons are very helpful. I’m leaning towards the Bluesound for a new system and your input helps. I have a Bluesound N130 now and have a positive experience connecting Qobuz into my Rotel preamp controlling with both my iPad and iPhone. I use the better DAC in the Rotel. The connectivity, ease of use and warm sound and cost will work for me. To answer your question, I look for the connections I need, ease of use with the operating system, the quality of the sound and the cost.
I have the original CXN, I was surprised CA took away the front USB port on this model.I raised this with CA on their Facebook page, they said it was purely a cosmetic thing and the rear USB input is still there, for me that’s a bit of a faff, especially when the unit is in a full size equipment stand,ok if it’s on top of a sideboard, just a small thing but the front port is handy for me so I’ll be holding onto my CXN v2. Great review btw.
Great review as always!! I'm still drawn to the Eversolo , possibly the masters edition! My present streamer the Advance Paris WTX-StreamTubes sounds great to me but is tiny and has no display. Thanks for the tip of connecting the streamer through the DAC, I'd not thought of that and had been connecting it directly to the amp.
As someone who would no longer give a streamer shelf space, coaxial output was never a problem when CD transport and dacs were the flavour of the month only bettered by XLR. It just seems they can't be bothered with spdif just to push USB. I've found USB a poor alternative over spdif when done properly.
I’ve found the opposite. I think you may be using the spdif properly, but not the USB. If you’re using all modern gear with quality USB input, and output. It should be far superior to spdif. An example would be a Schiit DAC with the new Unison USB interface. And any source that’s fully compatible with modern USB standards. So basically anything built in the last 5 Years, or so. Although there are older devices. That’s a safe number to go by. ✌️
Thanks Tarun, the most important things I looked for when I bought my streamer was gapless playback and a proper handoff from the mobile device used to control it. I did not want the stream to pass through the phone or tablet, which is something that some streamers do (eg dts Play-fi as used in Audiolab kit).
I have the Node X for headphone listening. I am happy with what it does for my needs. I have the CNX V1 in my office system paired with a CXA80 and a CXC. I love that system. I have rarely been able to find products that check all my boxes, so then it comes down to what I value the most. Thanks again.
This was very telling! Always a bit surprising what results from different topologies and use of digital outs. For me, something that concentrates on high quality clocking and Ethernet filtering/galvanic isolation. Also one with solid output options and attention to detail there in terms of quality signal to an outboard Dac. Or no internal Dac for that matter (dedicated design).
Hi Tarun, great review, and it comes just at the time that I was trying to orient my self around streamers. To answer your question, I guess I am a bit of an odd ball when it comes to digital audio. I would like the streamer to be only a streamer and not have a DAC (and I do not like to mix a two channel audio system with a TV). I think big savings can be made that way by not having to buy multiple DACs (if you are unlucky, you have one on your streamer, then you have a stand alone DAC and to top it off there is one in your amplifier.) There are not many streamers without DAC so the Primare NP5 Prisma is on my short list and so is the PS Audio Air Lens.
Hello Tarun I very much appreciate your audio reviews. The streamer/DAC of my B system is an older Azur 851N from Cambridge. I preferred it to it’s successor CNX V2. Partnering equipments are the Oskar Kithara speakers, Graaf GM 50B integrated. I find the Azur excellent and easy to use so have no intention to change in the near future.Tks
What do I look for in a streamer: a screen (I don't like having my ipad with me, it gets to a more nervous listening experience, very difficult to stay focused until the end of the record without changing). Neutral sound (I think that you have to find your tone with the amp-speakers combination, and sources have to be as neutral as possible), Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect, and a big soundstage, deep and wide. And also an active firmware policy. So that, when Qobuz connect will appear, the brand will implement it in the streamer.
Great review as usual! In my opinion, a streamer should have: a clean and reliable user interface, even basic, but with the possibility to access to all the most important streaming services; a USB input and output to connect hard drives and external DAC (an SD card reader would be a nice addition); It should be a pure streamer without any DAC inside, even without a power supply.
And if you say batteries. I’ll know you’ve never owned a HiFi device with battery power. Because they SUCK to deal with, and create their own noise anyway. ✌️
@@Moonloop76 Oh I get it now. Seems to me you’re looking for what I use. An Intel NUC (mine is 11th gen i3). Or a Mac Mini, although I’ve never used one of those myself. They use the NUC in very high end equipment, like the Grimm Audio MU1/MU2. Both of which are close to $20k. Even dead stock the sound quality is better than most streamers (including one I spent $1k on). Plus they make cases for them that allow you to delete the fan. Has external PS. Multiple USB-C/Thunderbolt ports. Multiple HDMI ports. Regular, and high speed USB-A ports. And they do make models with SD card reader too. They are taller though. And since it’s a full on computer. You can use any OS (including audiophile only Linux OS), and any service. I bought it because I use UA-cam Music, and wanted HDMI out to my big TV for music videos/concerts. But I got a lot more. I assumed I would take a performance hit, but instead got an upgrade. And they’ve made them for over a decade now. So they’re easily available used, and new. And in many different configurations. Best way is to buy the cpu version you want barebones, add memory/SSD, and find a cheap OS key (I got a Win 10 Pro key for $35 online, but they’re cheaper now). And computers/comp parts are at a low right now. And they can obviously can be upgraded in many ways too. Took me a long time to find the right streamer for me. And I think it’s the best streamer period for most people where money matters. Otherwise I would get a Grimm MU1. And yes it has a cheap built in DAC of course. But in this case it’s basically inconsequential, because it can be bypassed in the OS. That’s how I run mine. USB out to a MiniDSP SHD Studio. Highly recommended. Oh one last thing. I bought the i3 specifically because they use less power, for SQ reasons. And honestly it seems just as fast, if not faster than my i5, or my i9 laptop in everyday use. So I don’t recommend going big with the CPU. Unless maybe you’re getting an older one. Look at the watts it uses. Lower is better in this case. Mine is only 15 watts. And reacts quicker than any streamer you’ll get, because it’s superior chip to the SOC (System On Chip/qualcomm snapdragon type they use in phones/tablets) they mostly use. ✌️
Great that you did this as a comparison video, Tarun….I have recently gone with the Volumio RIVO in my system…Running with Roon…I was focusing more on sound quality than "features" since I was using it as a Roon-Ready device... I would love to know where that unit would fit in your pecking order. 🐦 😀 Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Sorry I’m late to this. I have to say how well you deliver your reviews. Technical explanations are always top notch. I use multiple WiiM pro as a digital transport. Coax out to my dacs. The dacs are Geshelli J2 with Sparkos update and Ladder Schumann. The WiiMs deliver the best Ui as far as I can see. You can connect to Amazon, Tidal, Qobuz, etc. The “connect” functions work flawlessly as well. The fact that there are Apple connectivity issues would rule the A6 out. These companies need to get an agreement with Amazon. Air Play is less than competent.
I have the Cambridge V2 partnered with the Cambridge 851a in my snug, you will have to spend some, to better it . The V2 is also super in pre-amp mode with d class amplification . Your detail is top notch Tarun .
I purchased a Cambridge Azure 851N a couple years ago and it has been a solid performing DAC. I use it to play FLAC files from a USB SSD drive. I wonder if this CXN100 has a little more sparkle on the top end which I would prefer.
A/V friendly is what I look for. My current amp programs for 2 outputs: !. Stereo LFE at 140W/Channel and 2. 7.2.4 at 100W/channel. It also has every connect imaginable baring balanced.
From my time with the Gustard R26, what I look for in a streamer is for it to be built into the DAC. With NAA support so I can take advantage of HQPlayer.
From my perspective I am looking for, in order of priority for soundstage, clarity, tone and finally connectivigy from a streamer. I am slightly allergic to the cosmetic acpects as I feel these are detracting from the investement in soundstage etc as mentioned above.
Great review as always Tarun. My big takeaway, USB doesn't always sound better than SPDIF on caox or optical. Guess it goes to show that shopping by features isn't always the best approach. And that while USB out can be superior, it depends on how well implemented. What I'd want from a streamer would be neutral sound whilst connected to my DAC of choice. Just get the bits to my DAC intact and I'll take it from there.
Tarun: You are a UA-cam-Channel right? You ask, what features I am looking for in a streamer, right? Well, that‘s an easy one: Watch UA-cam! No reviewer refers to that. Other than that: Keep up the good work 👌
Great review! As with dacs, hardware and connectivity are getting better every year. I think the software/GUI will become the most important factor. (Using the Allo USBridge hardware with MoOde software)
I picked the CXNv2 up last year for 50% off, it is my first proper streamer. I’m very happy with the sound but the hdmi is a critical omission in my opinion. I’m new to the channel, have subscribed and am really enjoying the reviews.
Have you taken advantage of the crossover feature of BS Node X and see if it improves midrange sound when crossovered at 80hz? To answer your question, all modern streamers which have a pre-amp, should have bass management and subwoofer out, with the ability to HPF on the mains and LPF on the sub. Greatly improves performance of the mains.
Awesome approach! This is the comparison I needed to hear. In my opinion Cambridge's new streamer is one whole year behind the competition. They came out with a very late reaction
A good streamer for me must sound great in my system and the in built dac should be good enough to embarrass stand alone units. For me volume control is a must. I would say the same for a DAC as now I use a separate streamer and DAC. I control volume vea remote to DAC which is easier than using the phone to change volume. Many people look to add streaming to their older but still good analogue system. My amp is 38 years old so the DAC volume is better than the amp which does not even have a remote.
There are so many DACs these days and they are coming out so frequently I prefer a streamer only (no DAC) or a review to focus on the streamer section (digital outs). With that in mind I think you did a decent job with that on this review. Thanks! If we are looking at the three above it seems as though the CXN100 had the best digital outs from a sonic perspective. It would have been nice to have an I2C out as that seems to be the best digital output (from other reviews of other streamers). What I would love to see is an I2C only shootout between
A very balanced and fair comparison. My hearing tops out at 8500 hz so I don't seem to hear the HF edge that you and Darko mention. I do think SQ of dmp A6 is better than Node 2i (2019). SSD storage of the A6 is a bonus for those w large ripped CD collections.
The biggest concern in my house is a device running an unknown operatng system on my network, with unrestricted access to the internet. I have enough trouble with mainstream devices that are well maintained, so I fear a niche product built on a framework of convenience rather than one of security is going to be a liability. Thanks for the reviews Tarun, I like your style.
I don't stream from the Web, but from locally stored FLAC files on my laptop. I'm not really interested in streaming from the Web, but if I was, I'd be looking for something with an interface as near a laptop as possible. I seem to remember asking you a while back whether it was worth getting a streamer purely for better sound than from a laptop -- and I recall you said yes, it probably was. So I ummed and ahed, looking for ways get around this. I eventually settled on spending £399 on a Singxer SU-2 DDC. I connect it to my laptop using a Supra USB cable, and go from it to my DAC via a C-line coaxial cable. And that definitely did the trick -- the sound has improved to a very worthwhile degree. So I just want others to know that they could buy a decent DDC (whether they stream from the Web or locally or both). That way they could keep their laptop if they wished, and that'd be cheaper to replace (should it fail) than most streamers. Mine is a refurbished Dell that cost me only about £200 on Ebay two or three years ago and (touch wood) is still going strong.
Still happy with my older model (Cambridge CXN V2 ) Sometimes i run it with its native dual Wolfson Dac Chipset, and sometimes for a NOS experience my outboard Metrum Octave Dac, both running through an 'Audio Experience Symphonies Tube Preamp .. Which do i prefer? It's a 50/50 call and i enjoy both presentations equally.
Features in streaming, well, that depends. In my case the audio set is not visible. I don't really want to see the audio set when I'm listening, but I do want a pleasant sound 😉. Partly because of this channel, I ultimately decided on a stream set of several separate parts; Bluesound N130 with PD creative separate power supply and new board inside the Bluesound, asynchronously connected via USB to a Denafrips Hermes DDC. Added up, I arrive at €2100, for which I could, for example, have bought a HifiRose 250A with a few 100 euros more. That HifiRose is a beautiful device, but I wouldn't see it from my listening position. I also play quite a lot of CDs and my Audiolab 6000 CD transport also uses the DDC, and the DDC provides an extremely neat connection to the Pontus II via i2s, which therefore sounds optimal with both CD and Bluesound.
One of the main advantages for me is with the Eversolo is it can use Apple Music High Ress directly on device, the others can not. Does the combination of the CX81 and the CX100 sound better, worse or only different than the Cambridge Evo 150 which has more power and a phono preamp?
Excellent review Tarun. I'd be interesting to know what you thought if the budget was increased a bit - would you just add a standalone DAC to one of these (as you did here) or get a pricier one-box unit?
I suppose to enjoy the BluOS app in a streamer of greater quality than the Node we are heading to NAD? I look for sound quality and a good user interface though a screen is not essential if the app works. Thank you for a comprehensive overview.
When Looking for a streamer I wanted one without a display, what’s the point when everything needed is on iPad. I already own a very good external dac so why pay for an internal one? I wanted one where all the money had been spent on sound quality, hence Moon Mind 2.
Excellent review as always Tarun. I'm still waiting for the wildly anticipated Volumio Rivo review :) I'm using the Wiim Pro into my Gustard R26 and have just upgraded the power supply for the Wiim to an external linear power supply. Very pleasantly surprised with the difference in sound. I was never convinced that it would make a difference but it does in my system. I'm not sure if any of the 3 in this review would be an upgrade over what I have now. But I do hear good things about the Volumio Rivo as a streamer only option. Keep up the good work.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 Yep, there's a setting to disable the clock in BluOS. There was a significant improvement in 'focus' through my Chord Qutest. At that time I was using a Node 2i - maybe the X doesn't provide said setting?
I just realized you are the only reviewer I’ve seen so far that’s been able to review the CXN100 and the Vega S1. I’ve got a CXN v2, so I’m curious how you’d compare the two?
Thanks Tarun, another great review. I now understand more about the benefits of using USB output. I currently have the Node (not X version) in combination with an Audiolab 6000A, but I am looking to upgrade in the near future. I realise that I will probably end up upgrading all my separates, not just the amplifier and speakers. Any plans to review any streamers in the 1-2 K bracket?
Nice one Tarun. Great video. I like to use my TV as the display even when just listening to music via Spotify. I'm currently using a xiaomi box 4k as the streamer, connected to the tv via hdmi. It has usb and toslink so connects to my dac which is connected to my amplifier. Not perfect but does the job. To answer your question, though. Display, connectivity and sound quality are the most important features to me. Am I the only one that likes to look at the tv screen while listening to music? For me its replaced the feeling of reading through the vinyl/cd artwork while taking in an album.
Thank you for your thorough review. At first, I liked that Cambridge had tone control and HDMI Arc. Second, I have a CXA 81 + CXN V2 and would like to upgrade my system to a CXN 100 and a power amplifier that has XLR inputs, such as the IOTAVX AVXP 2-840. I would be very grateful if I know your opinion. also EverSOLO DMP-A8 I have in mind Thank you
Unless you have a hiend resolving system, for me it’s all about the app experience, at this price point, you may as well save your money and get a WIIM pro… unless you need the extra features these products over!
I think the API is very important, too. I did not see any review which talks about it. It would be great if this would me compared more, whioch also would encourage the makeres to invest here. The eversolo has an API which allows controlling features of the streamer by sending http requests sent from a device on the same network. So you cantrol it from a simple HTML + java script project. For my own needs, I developed a Windows program which makes it possible to select which track to play from its internal SSD (not using DLNA). I also found out that the parametric EQ can help with bright speakers - the KEF LS50 were tamed with a setting which reduces >18K a bit and now sound is great and full.
Well now that's out of the way and there is some understanding of where the £1000 market leader are standing, I would like you to review more Streamer's around this price point. Its seems to me that most people would spend up to this kind of money in order to get a decent sound that allows them to listen to a huge range of music over and above Vinyl and CD, where you are limited to musical choice because of the cost per item of the above plastic disks. I would like to have your thoughts on the many other streamer's out there, like the Eversolo Master and the Volumio Rivo to name just two. Especially as there is no doubt about how good this UA-cam channel is.
For me Id love to see some analogue inputs so that you can truly use them as a full one stop solution with a pair of powered speakers like the ae1. I wouldn’t care if those inputs where digitised as long as it they handled correctly.
And akso, If U don't 'Need' the Pre-Amp and Screen, then just Buy the Smaller ( and nearly Half the Price ! ) MXN10 .... ( I Did ) ... Thanks for a very interesting review...at least two of the streamers were on my wish list before I watched it. I've just sold my Marantz NA6006 which used the HEOS app. you mentioned - I agree about its basic functionality, and for some reason the Marantz doesn't support Qobuz, to which I subscribe. At present I use the streamer in my Quad Vena 2 Play via Playfi app...this latter much maligned a couple of years ago, but now much better. But, can I do better with the Cambridge? I use the Quad Vena 2 Play as a preamp feeding a pair of Quad QMP monoblocks which power my Quad 2812 electrostatics, and the speaker outputs of the Vena as voltage signal for a Quad L series 12"subwoofer. You asked if there were any particular things we look for in a streamer. There are a couple. One, I listen to a lot of opera, and it is essential that Qobuz plays 'gapless' on the streamer/app. combination (the Quad Vena 2 Play/ Playfi does). This is rarely mentioned by reviewers (John Darko does - in fact he has a minor obsession with it!). Two, manufacturers rarely tell us which internet radio service is available....this is vital, as, as you may be aware, the BBC, in total disregard to its listeners, is busy removing its streams from the aggregators - HEOS lost BBC last year...and most foreign station, rendering it useless in the UK! Now from last week Vtuner has lost its BBC streams, but retains the foreign station which I use, especially WDR3, which has superb sound engineering as does BR klassik. So the question is, does the Cambridge app. carry the BBC 320k HLS AAC streams? At present I use a Chromebook whos USB C is plugged in to the USB B input on the Quad...works fine for most streams, but the audio is rendered to 48k by the Chromebook so is not ideal for higher quality flac files. Appologies for the lengthy questions!
The HDMI circuitry adds cost but is still a useful feature on more accessibly priced gear. The HDMI video switching also adds noise. That is why it is unlikely to be found on higher tier streamers any time soon
good comarisons - needed very much :) Taurn, need to ask you one related question - if I already get Eversolo A6 which I'm happy about but would like to upgrade in a simple path - is this better to add external Everolo Z8 (A6+Z8 very nice looking both) or exchange for A8 (which is costly overall and price/performance I'm not so sure if this is the best - as it's already price point of Lumins) ? my understaning is that stack A6+Z8 is somwhere between A6 and A8 but better overal then A6 ME? am I right ? do you have some other recomendation of external DAC for A6? Thanks a lot !
Great review and comparison! I’ve been considering the CXN 100, but it sounds like it might not be a good match (based on price/specs) for my Technics SU-R1000 and Sonus Faber Olympica Nova II speakers. 🤔
Thanks for the great review, very insightful!! I purchased the Marantz Stereo 70s 2.1 AVR, do you think the CXN100 DAC will improve music experience? or shall i stick to Marantz own streaming service & AMPs? appreciate your help
another great video, your channel is the best audiophile,i have the BOWERS N WILKINS 606 S2,could you please recommend a few intergrated amplifiers to make these speakers sound there best,i have between £350 and £700 to spend, many thanks
I never find hdmi/e-arc to be long awaited in such devices as there is no problem with controlling the volume via remote control and/or your receiver. HDMI included in such units means higher cost. I'd rather have a headphone input. To sum up- if stereo considered,no hdmi. It's a kind of hype. ///Thx for the review!
Hello Tarun I see that you are going to start some reviews for the speaker range of $3000 - $4000 dollars in upcoming postings. Can you possibly try to include the Q Acoustics Concept 50 floor standing model? I took your previous advice and upgraded my speakers and amplifier (HEGEL) H190. Thanks for the great reviews.
I agree that the once maligned HDMI input should be standard on all gear including high end products. A lot of people have their main stereo and TV in the same room and like to hook up the monitor through the main system. The sound is glorious when watching well produced shows like "Life on Our Planet with Morgan Freeman". The music sound tracks on movies jump out in full fidelity that puts the best soundbars to shame. p..s. I like full size components.
Thank you for the excellent review. I was wondering whether you use different streaming services when doing these comparisons, and if so, whether you feel there is any differences in sound quality between Tidal, Qobuz, Apple and Amazon?
I always enjoy your videos Tarun… streamers tho… I just can’t see myself streaming music. I’ve no idea how they compare sonically to my records & CD’s, but it’s the format I can’t warm to. I have to have an album or even a CD cover. Prehistoric I know, but I can’t help how I feel about them 🎵🎶😎👊🏻
I thought that too, but now I have an old tablet dedicated to my streaming apps I have more information than an album or (microscopic print) cd cover to hand. You can cross-reference musicians online and disappear down a rabbit hole. Album covers are useful for rolling joints on mind....
Nice review Tarun, can you use the CXN 100 as a preamp and connect it to the power amp directly? Edit: did watch the entire video and found the answer. How do you see this product as replacing my wiim pro+parasound p5 as a preamp?
The Node X is such a high value piece that it's hard to ignore everything it brings. I'm wondering though.... does it not make the most sense to get an inexpensive streamer with optical output and run it through that Denafrips to extract the maximum output for the least amount of spend? Streamers are still a bit like the Wild West in that each company is going their own way. Great for choice but it makes it challenging to figure out what works best for you.
Any HiFi system can only be as good as the weakest component. The challenge is to get everything to the same level of performance to avoid bottlenecks and get it all to work synergistically together to match your preferences 😊
Do you think that you could hear any difference among these three devices when used to listen to radio stations which stream their broadcasts on the internet?

HDMI eARC is a must for me so other family members can just use the TV and only one remote. Thanks for the review Tarun.
Thank you. I like eARC for the same reason. It is make life so easy for the rest of the family 👍

What I expext: headphone amp, EQ and most of all: a track record of excellent and long-lasting driver and firmware support. And yes, for these reasons my DAC is RME. If only it also was a streamer 😂
@@TheOneMonk thank for watching and your support 😊👍
Thank you. Really appreciate you explanation of clock sources for USB vs. SPDIF. Been around higher end audio for multiple decades and still have things to learn/understand. Thanks again!
Thank you 👍
I bought the CXN100 recently (as a refurbished device with a goood price)
To answer your question: What I am missing is 12V Trigger Out.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you Tarun, for being highly critical but fair. It's nice to know how the sound quality of modern streaming components can vary drastically depending on the components they're paired with. As any given system is upgraded, one has to be cognizant of any downstream changes in clarity, warmth and brightness to the overall system. And you articulate that very well for prospective buyers. Cheers!
Thank you kindly Bill 😊👍
Enjoy your reviews. Comprehensive, detailed, presented well. Thank you.
Thank you kindly 😊👍
Wonderful review with great advice and comparisons. I feel like i need to get a pontus 2, r26, or altair g 1.1, but i love the sub 1000 dollar category. I keep wishfully hoping a product like the node x, cxn or dmp a6 comes along a ABA says it is as good as the next tier....but he hasn't done that. No giant killers here. My best bet is to pick up one of the next tier dacs on sale or used i guess.
Thank you kindly. Giant killing very rarely happens in my experience 😊👍
Thank you 👍
Nice review, Tarun. I’m perfectly happy with my ifi Zen Stream set to dedicated Tidal Connect mode. No screen, no dac, just a pair of lights to indicate readiness to operate. Just wish it didn’t drop out now and again.
Now that's what I'm talking about. No DAC, I'll choose my own. Just get the bits there intact.
Thanks Mark 👍
Thanks for the video. Appreciate the insight into the build quality and internal components. The comparisons are very helpful. I’m leaning towards the Bluesound for a new system and your input helps. I have a Bluesound N130 now and have a positive experience connecting Qobuz into my Rotel preamp controlling with both my iPad and iPhone. I use the better DAC in the Rotel. The connectivity, ease of use and warm sound and cost will work for me. To answer your question, I look for the connections I need, ease of use with the operating system, the quality of the sound and the cost.
Thank you 👍
I have the original CXN, I was surprised CA took away the front USB port on this model.I raised this with CA on their Facebook page, they said it was purely a cosmetic thing and the rear USB input is still there, for me that’s a bit of a faff, especially when the unit is in a full size equipment stand,ok if it’s on top of a sideboard, just a small thing but the front port is handy for me so I’ll be holding onto my CXN v2. Great review btw.
Thank you. That is a good point 👍
Thank you Chris 👍
As someone who would no longer give a streamer shelf space, coaxial output was never a problem when CD transport and dacs were the flavour of the month only bettered by XLR. It just seems they can't be bothered with spdif just to push USB. I've found USB a poor alternative over spdif when done properly.
Thank you for sharing. It all come down to implementation 😊
Thx for sharing 😊
A display in my opinion is not required when it's there in front of you on your phone or tablet , money could be spent elsewhere on the unit itself,
agree!
Agree, yes it looks good but… rather have the money spent on sound quality
Double agreed 😮
Yes, that was a factor in my decision to buy the Cambridge Audio MXN10
@@simonupstone4924 higly considering one[& still using AudioProLink2]
Thank you 👍
Hello Tarun I very much appreciate your audio reviews.
Thank you. Newer is not always better. I appreciate you sharing 🙂
Thx for sharing 😊
Great review as usual! In my opinion, a streamer should have: a clean and reliable user interface, even basic, but with the possibility to access to all the most important streaming services; a USB input and output to connect hard drives and external DAC (an SD card reader would be a nice addition); It should be a pure streamer without any DAC inside, even without a power supply.
Without a power supply?! How would it work? Magic? 🤣🤣🤣 ✌️
And if you say batteries. I’ll know you’ve never owned a HiFi device with battery power. Because they SUCK to deal with, and create their own noise anyway. ✌️
@@amb3cog i mean without an internal One. So you can upgrade It using an external one
Thank you for sharing 😊
😀 Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Thank you 👍
After my brief chat with you and Mark, USB out into my DAC - that’s it. Hence the iFi Zen Stream
Thx Jeremy 😊
Thank you kindly 😊👍
I have the Cambridge V2 partnered with the Cambridge 851a in my snug, you will have to spend some, to better it . The V2 is also super in pre-amp mode with d class amplification .
Your detail is top notch Tarun .
Thank you. Much appreciated 😊👍
I purchased a Cambridge Azure 851N a couple years ago and it has been a solid performing DAC. I use it to play FLAC files from a USB SSD drive. I wonder if this CXN100 has a little more sparkle on the top end which I would prefer.
Thx for sharing 😊
A/V friendly is what I look for. My current amp programs for 2 outputs: !. Stereo LFE at 140W/Channel and 2. 7.2.4 at 100W/channel. It also has every connect imaginable baring balanced.
Cool 😎
From my time with the Gustard R26, what I look for in a streamer is for it to be built into the DAC. With NAA support so I can take advantage of HQPlayer.
Thank you 😊
From my perspective I am looking for, in order of priority for soundstage, clarity, tone and finally connectivigy from a streamer. I am slightly allergic to the cosmetic acpects as I feel these are detracting from the investement in soundstage etc as mentioned above.
Thx for sharing 😊
Thank you. Good info. I am considering the CXN100.
Thank you 👍
Great review as always Tarun.
Thank you. You are right Gerald, implementation is key 👍
Tarun: You are a UA-cam-Channel right? You ask, what features I am looking for in a streamer, right? Well, that‘s an easy one: Watch UA-cam! No reviewer refers to that. Other than that: Keep up the good work 👌
Thx 😊
Great review!
As with dacs, hardware and connectivity are getting better every year. I think the software/GUI will become the most important factor.
(Using the Allo USBridge hardware with MoOde software)
Thank you 👍
I picked the CXNv2 up last year for 50% off, it is my first proper streamer. I’m very happy with the sound but the hdmi is a critical omission in my opinion. I’m new to the channel, have subscribed and am really enjoying the reviews.
Thank you 👍
Excellent review. Interesting to hear that the CXN100 didn't sound so great on the 5020s. Lack of HDMI eARC is the real killer. Thanks Tarun
Thank you 👍
I like the minimal blue display on my Lumin, just a very simple looking but classy device. App really does need an update but does the job ok.
Thx for sharing 😊
Have you taken advantage of the crossover feature of BS Node X and see if it improves midrange sound when crossovered at 80hz? To answer your question, all modern streamers which have a pre-amp, should have bass management and subwoofer out, with the ability to HPF on the mains and LPF on the sub. Greatly improves performance of the mains.
I don’t bass limit my speakers through DSP for technical reasons. Unfortunately , too much to get into here 😊
Superb review as ever, thanks. I would like USB and I2S out for my AudioGd dac.
Thank you kindly 😊👍
Awesome approach! This is the comparison I needed to hear.
In my opinion Cambridge's new streamer is one whole year behind the competition. They came out with a very late reaction
Thank you 😊
That would be a concern if I was thinking of buying a steamer. The high tech gets superseded almost immediately
Sound doesn't know what a calendar is.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Appreciate your thoughts as always. Would seem to be a good streamer at this price point.
Thank you 👍
Great review as always. I don’t think the CXN100 price is justified. Also, it would be nice if it had Apple Music natively.
Thank you 👍
There are so many DACs these days and they are coming out so frequently I prefer a streamer only (no DAC) or a review to focus on the streamer section (digital outs). With that in mind I think you did a decent job with that on this review. Thanks! If we are looking at the three above it seems as though the CXN100 had the best digital outs from a sonic perspective. It would have been nice to have an I2C out as that seems to be the best digital output (from other reviews of other streamers). What I would love to see is an I2C only shootout between
Thx for sharing 😊
A very balanced and fair comparison. My hearing tops out at 8500 hz so I don't seem to hear the HF edge that you and Darko mention. I do think SQ of dmp A6 is better than Node 2i (2019). SSD storage of the A6 is a bonus for those w large ripped CD collections.
Thanks for sharing 😊
The biggest concern in my house is a device running an unknown operatng system on my network, with unrestricted access to the internet. I have enough trouble with mainstream devices that are well maintained, so I fear a niche product built on a framework of convenience rather than one of security is going to be a liability. Thanks for the reviews Tarun, I like your style.
Thank you 😊
I don't stream from the Web, but from locally stored FLAC files on my laptop.
Thank you for sharing John 😊
eARC or ARC is an important feature for me. It’s a must have on my next purchase.
Thx for sharing 😊
Still happy with my older model (Cambridge CXN V2 ) Sometimes i run it with its native dual Wolfson Dac Chipset, and sometimes for a NOS experience my outboard Metrum Octave Dac, both running through an 'Audio Experience Symphonies Tube Preamp .. Which do i prefer? It's a 50/50 call and i enjoy both presentations equally.
@@bryanwilliams3665 thx for sharing 😊
Thx for sharing 😊
One of the main advantages for me is with the Eversolo is it can use Apple Music High Ress directly on device, the others can not. Does the combination of the CX81 and the CX100 sound better, worse or only different than the Cambridge Evo 150 which has more power and a phono preamp?
Excellent review Tarun. I'd be interesting to know what you thought if the budget was increased a bit - would you just add a standalone DAC to one of these (as you did here) or get a pricier one-box unit?
Thank you. Both are valid approaches 👍
Great review. Thanks
Thanks for watching 👍
I suppose to enjoy the BluOS app in a streamer of greater quality than the Node we are heading to NAD? I look for sound quality and a good user interface though a screen is not essential if the app works. Thank you for a comprehensive overview.
Thank you 👍
I have been happy using a laptop into a dac for streaming. And it allows me to use an external cd drive for ripping and storing my cd library.
Cool 😎
When Looking for a streamer I wanted one without a display, what’s the point when everything needed is on iPad. I already own a very good external dac so why pay for an internal one? I wanted one where all the money had been spent on sound quality, hence Moon Mind 2.
Understood 😊
Excellent review as always Tarun.
I'm still waiting for the wildly anticipated Volumio Rivo review :)
I'm using the Wiim Pro into my Gustard R26 and have just upgraded the power supply for the Wiim to an external linear power supply.
Thank you 👍
Which LPS did you use?
I bought through a company in the USA called Pine Tree Audio. The custom make all of their product.
I bought the mxn10 and never bugs down unlike the Zen.

From memory, I think the Node's clock can be disabled in the BluOS settings, thus allowing the outboard DAC's clock to function properly.
With SPDIF outputs? 🤔
The CXN100 is a good unit but the Vega S1 is a different league of performance 😊
Thank you. I have reviewed the EverSolo DMP-A8 and will review others 👍

The question I was hoping to answer is how it compares to the CXN V2.
Unless you have a hiend resolving system, for me it’s all about the app experience, at this price point, you may as well save your money and get a WIIM pro… unless you need the extra features these products over!
Thx for sharing 😊
Would love to know what you make of the Wiim Amp, Tarun. 👍

Thanks for sharing 😊
Hi have you tried the A6 master edition it’s more smooth not so harsh as the A6 standard off course it costs a bit more
I haven’t tried the Master Edition 😊
Well now that's out of the way and there is some understanding of where the £1000 market leader are standing, I would like you to review more Streamer's around this price point. Its seems to me that most people would spend up to this kind of money in order to get a decent sound that allows them to listen to a huge range of music over and above Vinyl and CD, where you are limited to musical choice because of the cost per item of the above plastic disks. I would like to have your thoughts on the many other streamer's out there, like the Eversolo Master and the Volumio Rivo to name just two. Especially as there is no doubt about how good this UA-cam channel is.
If you think the eversolo is bright then use the parametric eq which you refer to and fix it
That is a bandaid fix and causes as many problems as it solves 😊
For me Id love to see some analogue inputs so that you can truly use them as a full one stop solution with a pair of powered speakers like the ae1. I wouldn’t care if those inputs where digitised as long as it they handled correctly.

Excellent vid again. So ... what would be a good streamer to couple with teh exposure 2510/amphion argon one combination?
Thank you. It is a bit of a jump up but the Auralic Altair G1.1 😊👍
For that money that’s pretty good value in my book. Incorporating class a tubes is what set apart.
Indeed 😊
Now from last week Vtuner has lost its BBC streams, but retains
the foreign station which I use, especially WDR3, which has superb sound engineering as does BR klassik.
Thx for sharing 😊
In a streamer, I am looking for something with eArc that I can use between my TV and my H190. Its baffling why not every single device has one..
The HDMI circuitry adds cost but is still a useful feature on more accessibly priced gear. The HDMI video switching also adds noise. That is why it is unlikely to be found on higher tier streamers any time soon
I'd probably only want the eARC and Async USB, the rest could be spent on performance and GUI screens or just be cheaper.
good comarisons - needed very much :)
Taurn, need to ask you one related question - if I already get Eversolo A6 which I'm happy about but would like to upgrade in a simple path - is this better to add external Everolo Z8 (A6+Z8 very nice looking both) or exchange for A8 (which is costly overall and price/performance I'm not so sure if this is the best - as it's already price point of Lumins) ? my understaning is that stack A6+Z8 is somwhere between A6 and A8 but better overal then A6 ME? am I right ? do you have some other recomendation of external DAC for A6? Thanks a lot !
Thank you. I haven’t heard the Z8. There are many factors to consider but I would be inclined to go for an external DAC 😊
I'd look for less features not more. So pure streaming transport. Right now that would be the Volumio Rivo
Thank you 😊
Daunting - could make a person who is interested in music run for the hills.
It can be used as a simple plug and play device 😊
You forget that the Eversolo can house an SSD drive as well, something the other two cannot. This was a decider for me.
I haven’t forgotten. It was mentioned in my review of the DMP-A6. This review was primarily focused on the new CA CXN100 😊
Great review and comparison! I’ve been considering the CXN 100, but it sounds like it might not be a good match (based on price/specs) for my Technics SU-R1000 and Sonus Faber Olympica Nova II speakers. 🤔
Thank you 👍
Thanks for the great review, very insightful!! I purchased the Marantz Stereo 70s 2.1 AVR, do you think the CXN100 DAC will improve music experience? or shall i stick to Marantz own streaming service & AMPs? appreciate your help
I would stick with the internal one until you are ready to upgrade amplification 😊
another great video, your channel is the best audiophile,i have the BOWERS N WILKINS 606 S2,could you please recommend a few intergrated amplifiers to make these speakers sound there best,i have between £350 and £700 to spend, many thanks
Thank you. Try Arcam amps 👍
Thx for sharing 😊
Hello Tarun
I see that you are going to start some reviews for the speaker range of $3000 - $4000 dollars in upcoming postings. Can you possibly try to include the Q Acoustics Concept 50 floor standing model? I took your previous advice and upgraded my speakers and amplifier (HEGEL) H190.
Thanks for the great reviews.
Thx 👍
I agree that the once maligned HDMI input should be standard on all gear including high end products. A lot of people have their main stereo and TV in the same room and like to hook up the monitor through the main system. The sound is glorious when watching well produced shows like "Life on Our Planet with Morgan Freeman". The music sound tracks on movies jump out in full fidelity that puts the best soundbars to shame.
p..s. I like full size components.
Thx for sharing 😊
Thank you for the excellent review. I was wondering whether you use different streaming services when doing these comparisons, and if so, whether you feel there is any differences in sound quality between Tidal, Qobuz, Apple and Amazon?
Thank you. I am not heavily into streaming. I generally listen to my hard drive connected to the streamer. I do use Tidal though 👍
Thank you so much for replying! @@abritishaudiophile7314
Any idea how it compares to the evo 150?
@@barlow2976 Reminds me of the Bob Marley Rastaman Vibration album inside cover “This album is great for cleaning herb”🌿 🎵🎶😎
...why should I have to buy an audio streamer with and internal dac and then buy an another dac? Could you suggest an upper class streamer?
There are many options. I like the Auralic Altair G1.1 😊
Nice review Tarun, can you use the CXN 100 as a preamp and connect it to the power amp directly?
Edit: did watch the entire video and found the answer. How do you see this product as replacing my wiim pro+parasound p5 as a preamp?
Thank you. It would be worth trying out to see how it compares 😊
How does it compare to the Hifi Rose stuff?
What is a balanced sound 🤔
How long have you got? 😉
Yes 😊
Don't see the need for a screen myself. I use a Node N130 as a transport. HDMI ARC is handy.
Thx 😊
