    I like this kid, he's a f...ing defensive machine. He not only defends his man, steals balls and blocks, but he is able to help all his teammates defensively. He's always aware of where the ball is and has great mobility all over the place.
    Offensively he is weaker, especially his three-point shooting where he is very insecure. But he attacks the rim with speed and forcefulness.
    I see him in the top-15 as I think he is a very interesting player for any team that wants to improve its defense.

    • @FloorandCeiling

      Dunn is the best defender of the draft and every NBA team is going to love him on that end of the floor. He's #18 on my big board right now, largely because I want to see him improve his three (his misses are mostly wide open looks) and become more aggressive as a whole.
      I also think he has real potential attacking the rim, both as a scorer and as a rebounder, but it needs to be on a more consistent basis.

      Yeah, I generally agree. You can be an incredible defender, but in today's NBA, you have to do more than that to get consistent minutes. Ideally, it's being able to shoot and, at bare minimum, making quick and mature decisions.
      I think Dunn is a smart player, so I trust that he'll get there but it might take some time if his shot doesn't start falling. In college, Dunn can offset this with his cutting and athleticism - all good skills, no doubt - but he's only made one three since the start of December, which really cannot happen in the NBA.

      Miami's pick should fall right after the lottery and this would be a nice landing spot for Ryan Dunn. I think there'd be no pressure on him to play in (at least) his first season, although his defense would probably get him on the court here and there, and the Heat can develop his offense in their G League system.

    Go to UVA and have seen him play many times. This analysis is on point. I hope his assertiveness goes up once conference play gets going because our offense is very stagnant if he isnt attacking. Definitely needs to grow his offense if he wants a consistent roster spot at the next level. Like you said he has flashes but they needs to be on display consistently in EVERY game he plays. Im a believer

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling 7 місяців тому +4

      Appreciate you! Yeah, I'm hoping Dunn does more offensively as the year goes on too. Like I mentioned in the video, it's ultimately tough to tell from the outside whether UVA wants him to be so tentative or if it's entirely on him.
      My educated guess is that it's a mix of both, with Virginia wanting his role to be simple but Dunn also not trusting his offensive tools that much yet (to be fair, it's easy to lose some confidence when you're shooting 19% from deep).
      I'm a big believer too, though.

      The main thing with this is that the Raptors' 2024 pick is top 6 protected. That might be too high for Dunn, who I see more as a late lottery prospect. However...
      Two years ago, I would've said Dunn was right down the Raptors' alley but the team is seemingly moving on from the "Project 6'9'" way of targeting rangy wings with defensive ability.
      The goal now is to build around Scottie long term, but I think Dunn would fit this too, particularly with his point of attack defense. I think Scottie is much better cleaning up and helping from the backline. Theoretically, there would be enough firepower on the floor with Barnes' improved shooting, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett. The team would really have to believe in Dunn to draft him top 6, though.

      He's a great defensive prospect, probably in the top 3 since I started evaluating the draft. There definitely needs to be offensive improvement, but I do think it's worth noting that he played for a Virginia team which does not really accentuate anyone's scoring.

    If my NYK’s were to draft this kid, and he plays behind OG, and with OG at times, I can see him developing properly and successfully. Deandre Hunter, also from UVA was a better shooter, but just as disruptive on defense. Few NBA teams would have as much defensive firepower on the wings as the Blazers then with Thybulle, Toumani Camara, and Ryan Dunn.
      Still, I wonder if Portland might target more of a offensive-minded player from an unconventional background as has been the case recently (Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe straight out of HS, Scoot Henderson out of the G League...). Maybe a Ron Holland or Matas Buzelis to add size on the wing, but also ball skills.

  • @ryanb7186
    @ryanb7186 7 місяців тому +6

    He could be a good fit on the Thunder. They set a lot of screens with their offensive, keep the ball moving, and also have multiple guys with scoring gravity to allow someone with Dunn's athleticism to get easy points off of smart cuts to the basket. It seems like his scoring woes are a skill/craft issue, not a basketball IQ problem. In fact, he seems very intelligent on the court.
    Chip Engelland is the Thunder's shooting coach, and they have gone from the bottom of the league in three point shooting to near the top in a couple of years so maybe he can help Dunn fix his shot too. They need someone who can play the 4, even if he is currently a little small, and he and Chet would be an insanely good defensive frontcourt. Coach Daigneault prioritizes defense first, so I think he would get playing time as a rookie at a position of need right from the start.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling 7 місяців тому +4

      Thanks for watching! It'd be really interesting to see Dunn on the Thunder. He'd definitely fit right in with all the mismatchy screening stuff that they do and they have lots of facilitators with Shai, Jalen Williams, Giddey, etc. I also agree that Dunn's offensive problems aren't IQ-related. I feel like they're more about his approach than anything.
      I commented below that a Dunn/Wembanyama frontcourt for the Spurs would be ridiculous on defense and the same applies for Dunn/Chet, except that I think OKC already has enough offensive tools to offset Dunn's lack of production there. The thing I wonder about is whether drafting Dunn would be a deviation from the Thunder's current philosophy of drafting prospects who could potentially dribble/pass/shoot.

    • @ryanb7186
      @ryanb7186 7 місяців тому +3

For me, if you can find someone elite on one side of the ball at the end of the lottery or later, you take them and bet on them improving their weaknesses.
