China is Killing Hong Kong’s Indie Film Industry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Chinese authorities banned Hong Kong films deemed threats to National security in 2021. The penalty for unauthorised screenings is three years in prison and a HKD 1,000,000 fine. Despite the law, some independent filmmakers still take the risk to screen their movies illegally. When even expressions of Hong Kong identity can be taken as a violation of the National Security Law, many local filmmakers live in fear and disillusionment.

It's like HK just lowkey gave up the fight for democracy, well at least more publicly. But I can't really blame them though considering the giant that is CCP that they were up against.
They were really close to Tianmen ver.2
What can people do?
HKs film industry hasnt been shit since the 80s anyways. Maybe early 90s.
Nah there were still bangers until 2010. My favourite film Exile was made in 2006.
@@DSQueenie 80s were the golden days. They pumped out bangers after bangers.
To me, Wong Kar Wai in the 90s/2000s was the last noteworthy director of HK.
@@DSQueeniethere are still banger in the 2000. Infernal affair is my fav. Oh and all the Donnie yen stuff in the 2000 were on fire
@YorgosL1 HongKong cinema death in 2005.c.e
Somehow the video reach is restricted to viewers, idk if its youtube, the government ot the channel itself.
To be fair the HK film industry has been dead since the opening up of the Taiwan and Mainland China market. And the final blow was the rampant piracy in the 2000s. We also switched to watching J-drama and K-drama around that time. Almost no famous HK movies star is under the age of 40. Now days even watching TVB drama is considered not politically correct, so even local TV stations are dying. We killed the HK film industry ourselves.....And yet here we are talking about the indie film scene lol. Making a film is not cheap, and you must have the avenue to distribute it. With the wider industry in decline no one is gonna financially back indie films or even distribute them. And if you apply for government grants of course they are going to have restrictions on the content in the film. Try making a film against the US military while getting some sort of state level grant or incentive, you are not going to be approved.
‼️What good and brave people! Is there a way we can donate or how do we support their cause. It's so sad how China is crushing their own people. China is crushing artists. The Chinese have always been phenomenal artists!! They've always had a large influence. So it just feels extremely wrong and sad for China to censor their own artists and be sure that it will be a 10000x harder for great and meaningful art to come out of china. So many fantastic artists are probably way too afraid to even try. So they become businessmen or business women instead. Extremely sad. I commend these brave individuals for continuing to put out art at the risk of their own life
well said👏
Just donate to the people falsely charge for January 6 protest, same cause
Let’s hope that taiwan will never become the shell of a country hong kong is now
Taiwan isn't a country so you have nothing to worry about.
Hong Kong was never a "country".
China isn't a country lol
Every country has its propaganda and what is deemed beneficial to its own interests, the only difference between China vs US is that the ccp and communism operate more overt and direct in how it controls the population whereas the west is subvert and deceptive using popularity and trends to control. I’m sure this pandemic has revealed to many including Americans that they aren’t as free as they thought they were. The dollar is still the reserve currency for now, so being a slave in a rich and powerful country is still better than most. However when that changes and likely soon, the US can and will enforce communism if it’s necessary
Wow. Thats a violent riot, didn't know these people were capable of it
香港的没落命运是在1997年写下的一国两制的滑坡。从此香港滑向不归路。今天,一种可怕的、未知的未来集体情绪正让人们脊背发凉,不知道未来会怎样。能者离去,不能者怀怨流连。 ……
I grow up with Hong Kong film, where is it.Let be free
I wish they can find a new place to settle cause freedom in hong kong is a lost cause already
