Cozy manga: spice and wolf, a silent voice, the girl from the other side, Komi can’t communicate, kiss him not me, letter bee, kimi ni todoke, dawn of the arcana
My two favorite manga series that I've read recently are Witch Hat Atelier (cozy, Ghibli vibes) and Spy x Family (kind of like Mr and Mrs Smith but found family and adorable). If you haven't read them, would definitely recommend them for when you need something cozy!
I also have the rule of not buying books by the same author if I haven’t read the ones I have on my shelf. I have some exception such as author events and anthologies but I’m pretty good with it. I hope it goes well and all of these books look beautiful!
I love how you show all the pretty books 😍 I’m really big on settings too! I just noticed that recently but the end pages of Godmiller make me want to read it 😊
As beautiful as Heart of the Sun Warrior is sitting on my shelf. I put it down at the 50% mark… and never went back. Plot was pretty unnecessary and slow. Writing was pretty, but I just completely lost interest. So I’m going to consider the 1st book as a standalone. I just finished Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent, which is probably one of the best Fantasy Romances I’ve read in a long time! The plot, world building, and characters got just as much time and attention as the romance. But it’s the first in a 3 book series… which was not the TBR plan for the month! Want to get to Hellbent next and I’m really interested in The Magicians Daughter which releases this week. I love the landscape end pages! I would love to see that and world maps way more often!
I feel you, I didn't even like the first one so I don't intend on reading it, I got the copy (which is beautiful!) because I worked on it so it has sentimental value haha but it's a shame you didn't like it if you loved the first one!
For the Inheritance Games I would definitely recommend continuing the series! The first book was my favourite but definitely still worth it. There’s also an extra book coming out in August I believe. I think it’s a spin off or a prequel or something :)
100% agree. I wish there was more landscape art in or on books. It just helps me immerse myself more in the world. Then again, character art helps me visualize the characters.
Blue flag is a fairly short manga, only 8 volumes, and it’s a queer romance, so you may like that? It has a lot of classic romance tropes; love triangles, drama, miscommunication, which just makes it light and easy to read, as the volumes are just 200 pages.
Hi! Something Wilder came from me. :D I swear I added a note but I guess....it didn't make it. I honestly thought the book got lost, too, so thanks for confirming it arrived! The Ex Hex is fun! And has more in the series. For me, it got me back in romance but it also leans more toward the cozy side. The Inheritance Games sounds fantastic! It's on my list now- thanks.
Oh I hope you can read When Women Were Dragons soon! She is from here and this is her adult debut. I think you have correctly assumed the premise vibe! 😅 She is a magnificent writer (has several awards for her MG).
I read The Red Scolar's Wake and sadly was a bit disapointed. I loved what it wanted to be, but not what it actually was. The edition is stunning though :D
So many beautiful editions 💜 Out of those I've only read "I Robot", which I enjoyed a lot :) I hope you feel better soon and can enjoy all of your new books!
One of my best friends is almost caught up with all the volumes and talked me into trying it- I’m on the third volume- I mean it’s fun and quick but it’s not my favorite thing ever.. yet. I’m still gonna keep going!
so many pretty books🥰 Spice Road was my first fairyloot box book and the surprise/shock of how pretty it is, I still haven't recovered. I really hope I'll enjoy it and the inside will match the outside☺
I read and loved The Measure! Just to adjust your expectations a bit: it doesn't get as dark as Black Mirror, it is more an everyday kinda story. But the ideas are super interesting and it's fun to see all the different possible reactions.
I started Godkiller as soon as it arrived, I'm 2/3 through now and enjoying it a lot!! Hope you enjoy it when you get to it ^^ As for manga recs, my current favorite is probably A Bride's Story (or Young Bride's Story, depending on where you live). Set in central asia in the 19th century, it follows a young woman from a nomadic family that marries into a big family in a small town. It's slice of life almost, with entire chapters devoted to baking bread, traditional embroidery or the woodcarving and carpentry that is needed to build a house, and the art is gorgeously detailed
A lot of beautiful books 😍 I’m also really excited to read Godkiller! … and the rest in the inheritance games series were fun quick reads (frustrating at times) but I honestly wouldn’t bother reading them knowing how it ends 👀
I have read Exhalation and absolutely loved it. I usually don't like short stories because some are better than others but I gave it 5 stars. The first story is my favorite but all are good.
I enjoyed the Ex Hex, just recently listened to the audiobook. I think I gave it 4 stars. Also Five Survive was a recent one for me, it was entertaining. There are so many of these books that I’m excited to read. Godkiller, the last tale of the flower bride, and When women were dragons! I also added The things we do to our friends to my Goodreads, never heard of it, but it sounds good! Thank you for this video! Hope today is a better day health wise!
I read The Measure last year and I LOVED it! In my opinion definitely way better than They Both Die At The End. 🙈 It's not really as dark and psychological as I expected it to be. But I really liked how the author described the way society reacts to all of what's happening. And I think the characters where all really loveable. Hope you enjoy it once you get around to it! Also wishing you all the best for your health! ☀️
I've felt the same! I have had zero luck with comics in the past year almost and have started to fulfil the need for visual books through manga. I looooove Spy x Family, another lesser known ongoing series called Kakuriyo Bed and Breakfast (Spirited Away vibes). I find BL (less explicit ones) to be a good cozy genre; Our Dining Table is my favourite and a standalone, the Restart duology by Cocomi. I also like Magus of the Library, the art is so gorgeous 🥰
I need to read more manga this year. I’m trying to limit like 3 buy books a month lol. I was going to put myself on a book buying ban but that’s been short lived
My favourite cozy manga are Beyond the Clouds by Nicke and The Girl from the Other Side by Nagabe. I would say both are wholesome fantasy and would definitely recommend.
You should check out Chihayafuru! It's a gorgeous and incredibly warm story full of passion and interesting characters. Also it looks and sounds beautiful! One of my favorite anime of all time and I wanna read the manga soon 💛
The FL edition for Spice Road is so gorgeous but I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not buying special editions of series anymore unless they're fully released and I've already read them and love them. Also: if it happened once, I could easily write it off, but TWICE during this video, you mentioned something as I was reading about it while scrolling my phone on social media lol. The first was me reading Frank Waln's tweets about The Last of Us, the second was me reading a post a friend made about juxtaposition between Hayao Miyasaki and Junji Ito as people and their aesthetics.
I am so excited to read Godkiller, unfortunately it’s not out in the US yet so gotta grab it from book depository. Also, if you want more manga suggestions I adored The Promised Neverland. I still think about them two years later. I read them from the library and just need to buy them so I can read them again.
BOOOOKSSS 🐸 I just started When Women Were Dragons like an hour ago, and am already really enjoying it 🐉I DNFed The Last Tale of the Flower Bride because the writing was too *flowery* even for ME and you might hate it... 😬Prayer for the Crown Shy was excellent. Manag recommendations: the most wholesome manga I know: "Horimiya" (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun) it has about...16 volumes now in Japan, but the main story line fizzles out at around 6.The rest is only there because it's addictive, and nobody can stop reading Similar rom-com style and absolutely adorable: "Toradora" (finished series, kind of a classic by now like Horimiya) The nice guy who looks like the son of a mafia boss and everyone is afraid of him. And a tiny, cute girl who is the actual "lion" (tora) with her temper... Just an amazing time with action and a lot of humour: "Spy x family" Based on I hear the sunspot: "Harukaze no Etranger" Basically a road-trip through Iceland: "Go with the clouds, North-by-Northwest" (the art....the art!!!) I think all of these work really well as a palette cleanser between dark/heavy/twisted reads. Hopefully you find something that works for you!
The third book of A Curse so dark and Lonely was a disappointment for me. The first one of my absolute faves, second was only okay, but the third... hmmm. I don't know...gave me nothing. Still a bit sad about that tbh.
Cozy sweet manga: My Love Mix-up: Incredibly sweet highschool characters figuring stuff out and supporting each other A Man and His Cat: A lonely man takes in an "ugly" unwanted cat. Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun: Comedy with lovable characters. Highschool students being idiots. I Think Our Son is Gay: His mom knows he's gay, he isn't quite there in accepting his sexuality, so she waits until he's ready and supports him in any ways she can. Saint Young Men (Buddha and Jesus take a vacation in Japan and they are room-mates. Zom-100 Bucket List of the Dead: Not a conventional cozy read but has quickly become my comfort read. Follows an incredibly burnt out dude who is set free from conventional society because of a zombie apocalypse.
Cozy manga: spice and wolf, a silent voice, the girl from the other side, Komi can’t communicate, kiss him not me, letter bee, kimi ni todoke, dawn of the arcana
thank you!
When women were dragons is exactly what you said you thought it was and I gave it 5 stars. Just fantastic.
Sweetness and lighting is one of my favorite cozy manag to read! Highly recommended it
My two favorite manga series that I've read recently are Witch Hat Atelier (cozy, Ghibli vibes) and Spy x Family (kind of like Mr and Mrs Smith but found family and adorable). If you haven't read them, would definitely recommend them for when you need something cozy!

unpopular opinion but i prefer artwork of sceneries rather than character art and would looooove to have more of them on endpapers 👀
I kinda agreeeee haha

indeed!
Hello! 💙🍓 (I wanted a blueberry emoji, for the monster one in your story, but I had to improvise.)
aww ayyy thanks for saying hi! ☺
omggg the special edition of the inheritance games 😩😩
A video dedicated to an author sounds fun! Hope you find some new favourites in your new books :)
I hope so too, thank you!
Oh I hope you can read When Women Were Dragons soon! She is from here and this is her adult debut. I think you have correctly assumed the premise vibe! 😅 She is a magnificent writer (has several awards for her MG).
I also got The Things We Do to Our Friends recently and I'm excited for it. Every time I see Edinburgh on a blurb I'm like yesss please ❤️
haha it's becoming fairly often now I feel for some reason!
I recommend Fruits Basket for a cozy, sometimes sad but always heartwarming read ❤
I saw Chris Pine with a pile of books and Tender is the Flesh was one of them and I keep thinking about reading it
ooh interesting
I read The Red Scolar's Wake and sadly was a bit disapointed. I loved what it wanted to be, but not what it actually was. The edition is stunning though :D
I hope you'll feel okay again soon
thank you for the recs!
Hope some of these become new favourites for you! 💛💛
Ooo I just got What My Bones Know too!
We‘ll wait for you and I love every video you‘ll put out. Health goes first and I really hope it gets better! ❤
thanks so much 🥰
Congrats to the UK 🇬🇧 winners of your giveaway prayers and thoughts for you and your family love your Aussie family friend John 💙❤️💙❤️
I really enjoyed Something Wilder. It is second chance romance, but it's also adventure romance. There are actual stakes, so you might enjoy it.
ooh that does make it more appealing!
Hello! I recommend Orange, for a sad read, and Yona of the Dawn, if you like fantasy. Kiss
So many beautiful editions 💜 Out of those I've only read "I Robot", which I enjoyed a lot :) I hope you feel better soon and can enjoy all of your new books!

With regards to manga … not sure if you’ve ever read Witch Hat atelier. It’s cute
🥰
Fun fact: The Last Of Us is filmed in and around my city. The University scenes were filmed at the Uni I went to.
oh that is fun, have you seen it in action?

hahah I did spot that in editing too haha

yeees, I can't see G liking the last Tale of the Flower Bride 😅

I didn't enjoy last flower bride either. Was disappointed as the blurb sounded it would be good.
