  • Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Alekhine's Defense - Scandinavian Variation!
    On this channel we have covered a ton of chess openings for black against e4 including the Elephant Gambit, Pirc Defense, Sicilian Najdorf, Sicilian Dragon, Owen's Defense, Scandinavian Defense, and Caro-Kann Defense. We have also covered the Alekhine's Defense, but in today's video we cover a specific chess opening line with the Scandinavian Variation. The main line against the Alekhine's Defense includes white pushing the center pawns like crazy and potentially going into the Four Pawns Attack. However, as Alekhine's Defense players, this is exactly what we want. We are giving the e4 player control of the center, but in return are going to attack that central pawn structure for the rest of the game, always trying to find attacking lines and variations. Many e4 players (including myself!) have opted to ignore the main line, and instead play Nc3 against the Alekhine's Defense. This gives us the opportunity to transpose into the Vienna Game or Pirc Defense, but there's a good chance you don't want this as you played the Alekhine's Defense at move 1! That is why today we are covering the Scandinavian Variation, a great chess opening for black that will give you a chance to fight for the win, beat higher rated players, win more chess games, and improve at chess fast. The Scandinavian Variation has a ton of chess opening theory, lines, and variations. You as the Alekhine's Defense player have options with how you want to approach the game, and in this video we cover the three most popular chess opening ideas for you Scandinavian Variation players. The Scandinavian Variation has good chess moves, chess ideas, chess strategy, chess theory, chess tricks, chess traps, and chess principles. It is also a good chess opening for beginners, and in this beginners chess lesson, we look to help you get your chess game to the next level. The Alekhine's Defense is a great way to get the e4 player into new chess opening theory and the Scandinavian Variation will give you great chances to fight for the win in both the opening and middlegame. Enjoy learning how to play the Scandinavian Variation of the Alekhine's Defense!

    Nice coverage thanks! My databases show that 30% to 40% of all Alekhine defense games go into this variation. So it is very important to know. Great job.

      Hey James, glad you enjoyed it! And ya if someone is trying to go with the Alekhine's Defense, the Scandinavian Variation is a MUST. More and more players (including myself as white) seem to be hesitant of playing e5 and throwing all their pawns like crazy.

    You overlooked the Spielmann Gambit 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e5 Nfd7 4.e6!? Which can be very tricky to face if you're not prepared.

      I’m sorry if this seems weird, but what would your rating be? Just wanting to know what the rating of a totally random person is. And the site in which you play too, of course.
      Again, It’s just pure curiosity haha, my bad if it seemed weird

    I have an idea for another opening video. What about the Nimzowitsch defense? It’s super interesting and maybe a video on the Shveshnikov or Scheveningen? Both are highly respectable variations of the Sicilian yet both are drowned out by the Najdorf and Dragon. Thanks!

    Great video as alway! I have looked into this line as White so I have a couple of notes.
    *I think White does have a slight advantage in the 3...d4 endgame because of the better pawn structure (3 pawn islands and an isolani vs 2).
    *Nice of you to cover 5. e6!?. That's my line (but I play it on the fourth move), it's really deadly if Black is not prepared. I think its really important to understand that against h4-h5 Black should play in the centre as you said, but more concretely, Black should not defend with Nf6-Nxh5 because then Rxh5 is winning for White.

    Incredible lesson!! I dont know why the Alekhine is not played that often on the Elite, in my opinion it is the best hypermodern defence you can choose because it forces white to make a decision on move one, ¿Do you want to be equal or do you want to overextend your center? Great video Solomon.

    • @hectorgray8542
      @hectorgray8542 3 роки тому

      While forcing, openings like the Alekhine and Scandinavian not only give up space, but also time (with the queen/knight), and so they fail to equalize at the highest levels because strong players can take advantage of that.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed the video brotha! Ya I used to hate on the Alekhine's Defense until I released what black is trying to do with it. When studying the opening theory, there is a TON of ideas black has in various lines and variations. I myself am also an e4 player and the Alekhine's Defense is one of my least favorite openings to play against, so it can't be that bad! Chesson brotha.

    • @Ebobster
      @Ebobster Рік тому

      I sometimes play the Alekhine Defense, but there one variation - the modern advance chasing black’s knight to b6 followed by exd keeping white’s space advantage intact is very frustrating to play against.

    Great video! I'm trying to learn the Alekhine's opening. What are your thoughts on the O'Sullivan Gambit? 1. e4 Nf6. 2. e5 Nd5. 3. d4 b5 Eric Rosen did an interesting video on it.

    I just cant get away from this opening,ive tried the french which is also cool.But i always come back to this.Check out Bryan Tillis's course on Chessable in the alekhine,hes one of the best authors and he updates them often.His alekhines is one of the best as are his others,seriously get it its so good.But thanks for the upload because alot of people get put off or told its rubbish (Garbage) to you lol And it's not,its just positional and your opponent has a hard time trying to understand it because they dont come across it much.Always play something that will take your opponent out of theory...

      Hey Agent Smith! 100%! I haven't heard of that I will have to check that out. And ya, I couldn't agree more. Many thing that the Alekhine's Defense is subpar and I myself used to think this. I quickly realized this wasn't the case though once I started studying it in addition to realizing that I hate playing against it as white!

    Hey great video as always. I managed to find another weird animal named opening, it’s the cormorant gambit in the old Benoni defence. Definitely an unconventional opening with 1. d4 c5, 2.dxc5 b6. Would be a good opening to cover to go with the other strange animal openings on the channel
