Is this type of layout common in Canada? I have noticed lots of canadian houses have multiple living rooms and kitchens, and backsplits seem to be a thing. I had never heard of a backsplit until I started watching canadian house tours (USA, Massachusetts here.)

It is very common in the older homes! At least where I am from, Ontario!
