Second Suez Canal - Icon of the Future
Вставка

- Records were broken, vessels were mobilised from every corner of the globe, and work was carried out non-stop. The construction of the new Suez Canal in Egypt was like a rollercoaster ride.
In less than a year’s time, a second canal was constructed alongside the old canal. By completing this iconic project, Van Oord once again left its mark on the world. - Наука та технологія

Well, sad to said, but it was not enough. Suez needs to be two channels in full length.
Amazing to complete it in a year!
I bet they'll start working to make the canal fully two-way with two full channels quite soon!
You were right... President El Sisi ordered the Suez canal headquarters a week ago to double the canal all the way in 2 years time
The way Dutch speak English is too good..
Can t undeerstand why we can t speak better then this stonecoal English,., the pronunciation most be way better !!!!
Without the Dutch o the job
Whos going to do all the yelling and demanding !!
@@moodyfan4ever I have a dusch acshent isn't that veird?! jk love the Netherlands
Uitstekend!
And yet somehow the canal still got blocked for a week by one boat. They built part of a second canal. More of a bypass
Exactly
The Dutch know to dredge like Texans know how to extract oil. Congratulations!
How come they didn't get the Suez job then ????
It aint much , without the Dutch , lol.
@@manuelaffonso2191 Van Oord is Dutch
Sure, the canal might be in Egypt. But after learning of the huge Dutch contribution, I'm gonna start calling it the Van Suez Canal.
It’s actually French

Evergreen....
5 years ago planning to make it two way canal, yet who ever given thought that they still got blocked 5 years later.
It blocked the red se enter which is one way
It's not a second canal. It's a bypass.
Exactly
Good work
dont miss this 5:44
very good
WE WILL NEED IT .
They should FINISH second damn canal before the cargo ship was stuck!
About 120 km of new way...can be done under 5 years...
Good
How about doing a civil engineering video with some interesting civil engineering information as well as this public relations video?
Great Job Guys - Maybe they need some more help.with widening 👍🏻
Widening no, extending the second channel yes.
@@Ancovg Actually they are widening the part where the ship was stuck. A 2nd channel isn't gonna help prevent a ship getting stuck sideways in the canal.
@@bftjoe But is making sure a block isn't gonna block the connection completely while widening will.
@@Ancovg Is that even English?
We haven't learned anything what was exactly done and how it was done. Not everybody is an expert in how to build canals - right? That could have been interesting to learn. Instead we heard that some arbitrary tight schedule was defined by someone without any clue. And some people somehow organized it. So overall we haven't learned anything...
nowhere in the description says that you will learn something about canal building
Very good job. thanks.9710005239🚣👍
Like to hsve a longer video with much more details. Not just an advert for van Oord
Then make one.

Sounds like it was just bad luck that the container ship got jammed at the wrong spot. Maybe they need more bypasses. Also Israel's proposed canal would have helped.
And NEOM will block that
???? then how did it get blocked??? someone screwed up the design
I worked in volvox Asia, and vanoord..it's awesome awesome...😊😊😊💯✌️
Where was the new canal three weeks ago ? 🤔
In the wrong place!

The southern section should be easy in comparison, except for that city in the way. Did they find any pyramids under the sand?
Should of put a 2nd canal in the south! Haha
And now we will have another canal through Israel
The canal through Israel is real

another canal? through Israel? really? ... isn't it rather going to be an oil pipeline between Eilat and Ashdod (in order to be able to bypass the Suez canal _for_oil_tankers_ ) ?

So what happened with this second channel? Because one ship just blocked a one way part of the canal for over a week, costing billions of dollars.
Its a small channel beside to actual Suez canal, .. may be at a perticular place.. sorry for bad English
Look at a map, the ship got stuck in part of a canal that isn't redundant.
They should build another one through Israel as well.

@@peterembranch5797 we've tried, still haven't managed it, this is about as bad as it gets
This doesn't make sense, 5 years ago. The canal was just blocked by one ship . Me no understand!
They only added a bypass in one part of the canal to increase ship traffic. There are still sections that are only 1 canal. You can see it in google maps
Why is it so shallow.... keep digging..
Because it is just enough. At 24 meters deep. adding 1 meter of depth adds 4% in depth. And probably also 4% in costs. In other words: digging deeper is prohibitively expensive.
@@basvanbeers3515 Also if you want to make it deeper, you need to make it a bit wider, because the edges need to have a specific slope, otherwise they will fill up the canal back under the erosion. The requirement was to make it 24 m, so they did 24m.
It only looks shallow because it is so wide. I believe that the dept only needs to be around 1.15 times the dept of the ship so that means there is room for ships with about 20 to 21 m of a submerged hull. That is about a 7 storie building under the waterline.
Must have screwed up the design somewhere for one ship to block the whole canal.
