  • Welcome back to the channel.
This week I get back from a holiday to find my Showa has Dropsy, but what can i do about it 😮🤔
Only away for 10 days and find the Showa in a right mess.. Everything in the pond was fine before I left so why did this happen?🤔🤔
Also I find that Blanket weed has come back while I was away and needs dealing with ASAP.. Before it makes it to the bottom drain and causes a blockage.

So sorry for your loss its very sad & emotional (even with a fish)...i had a similar type of experance (not gone quite as long as yourself)...I had went to an old friends house that I hadn't seen in over a year & spent the hole day there 12/14 hours & the next morning when i got up from my bed to check on my koi/ goldfish,(like evey morning)one of my favorite 6inch shubunkin goldfish was floating, i have no idea what happend... I've had "ALL" my pond fish for over five years now, with nothing ever happing like this before...😢😢😢 it was very emotionally sad!,,,,

Always sad losing a fish but it’s now also important to consider the rest.
Have you thought about dosing the pond with Virkon to try and reduce any potential bacteria?
Possibly a double dose of one per 500 gallons and then one per thousand for the next few weeks!

its so hard when you do so much to ensure your fish have everything they need.
I often see us with great water quality, good food, no overpopulation etc etc. always seem to have issues :(
while others have a cheap pump, liner 100 fish and its all ok lol......
to top it off we just treated cloverleaf too and I think its bunged my bottom drain as the nexus flow is right down lol.....
fingers crossed it all improves for us both.

A sad loss of a nice Showa. I wouldn't ever ask anyone else to feed my koi whist I'm away. Koi can survive without food for weeks. It's not ideal but far better to have them hungry than to have issues. Nishikoi Clear Waters is the best blanketweed treatment in my opinion, it really works. I wouldn't rush into another purchase just yet, get your water in tip top condition and if it's all good next year look around for a Kohaku then. Good luck.

A recommendation get a quarantine set up you can get them for as much as 200-500 pound. I have had my moneys worth out of mine 100% saved 3 out of 4 fish with sever bacterial infections I’m talking huge holes the stuff was eating them all over alive and to show you the fish now you would never of known. The combo that saved ours was salt, acriflavine, and heat.

Fish keeping, when it's good it's really good, but when it's bad, it's a bloody nightmare, in my opinion dropsie needs to be caught really early, placed in warm water and salt, no feeding for at least two weeks, and kept in a separate water system and filter, as it's quite catching. Just got back from holiday ourselves. This video was like watching what we have gone through over the last 2 weeks.
Confirmed bacterial infection in the pond ( by lab) Had to euthanise 1 on the morning we left. Definite signs of dropsy with bloating and raised scales. Lost a further 2 in the first week. Both were receiving treatment and appeared to be on the mend ( I was happy to leave them)
Second week, I logged into our pond camera and was surprised to see something floating. Sent my Dad round, and he confirmed it was dead. Signs of bloating and a small sore, barely visible in the pics he sent.
I had done everything as you had in preparation. Even invested in a camera to oversee the pond working daily. Auto feeder turned right down to barely nothing. All pumps, airlines, feeder, camera, lights, all controllable from my sunbed 4000 miles away, and still lost 3 fish!
I have an appointment with an aquatic/tropical vet on Tuesday. Hopefully to get some treatment for the bacterial problem.

iTS coming WINTER temp drop to 8C tonight very cold out. At the moment the signals are pointing towards a La Niña based Autumn and winter. A La Niña Autumn and Winter would lead to an unsettled and cooler Autumn with areas of low pressure moving in off the Atlantic to affect the United Kingdom.
The winter period, or at least the start of winter would more than likely bring much colder weather ice and heavy snow.
So a time to consider a new type or a new idea of a pond covering.

Its never good to see one of our fish with Dropsy, i lost one of my fish a long time back and in the end had to "deal" with it for a final solution..Any way -Looks a nice place on your holidays where did you go ?
Last year i had a disaster of my own whilst on holidays....
So second day in i notice that all my electrics had turned of on my pond, ok it was the float switch that was in place just incase water levels dropped, which they hadnt, the fish just like to play with it and inadvertantly bobed it and turned the power off, so i asked a neighbour to pop round and give the float switch a little shake then drop it back in.
So as they dint have the house keys they lifted a fence panel and went through to my garden, gave the float a shake and it sparked, indoing so tripped the electrics in the house (secureity cameras went off so told me the electric had tripped) now i had a fridge freezer in the house defrosting and a freezer in my shed defrosting!!
My youngest daughter who came away on holiday with us had the key (and alarm fob) to my house but had forgotten to give the key to my oldest daughter before we went away, so i had to organise a locksmith on a sunday night in Turkey to go and drill my daughters lock so the other daughter could get the key (and alarm fob) to my house thus enter and turn off the alarm (monitored) and reset the trips.
This little escapede cost me £300 for the locksmith, one very long phone call to the alarm company to explain that the alarm might go off and to NOT phone the police (god help us if they did!!) alll whilst about to go in to a 3-4 day bout of being unwell due to food poisoning, a new float switch and pea green water as my pond was out in full sunlight!
    FML!

Always the same, the best ones seem to get sick and the ones we would be happy to move on are as tough as nails. Looked more like bacterial infection with how it was bloated. For future, try separating the fish and using a salt solution of 0.06-0.09 max and keep it in for as long as needed. Helps the osmo regulation or water retention in normal speak. Shelled peas also help clear any blockages as they can produce the same look. I would also salt the pond for a week or so,just in case, bit that's me personally and I'm not there to see for myself. So I understand what it's like when it's you and your koi. Hopefully it's behind you now and it's onwards and upwards from here on in🤞 and lastly on the dropsy, there is no definitive answer out there that explains it and like us,I get sick and you don't even when we do all the same things. What can I do with my koi that is egg bound help

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  16 днів тому

Hiya, if your 100% sure it's egg bound there is a way to massage the eggs out if the fish, (I couldn't advise this method as never done it), but the fish should absorb the eggs if it doesn't sporn for whatever reason.. If your fish is looking bloated it could be for number of reasons... I've not intervened with any of my fish that look bloated in the past and let nature take its course. Good luck with your fish and hope it recovers from whatever it has..🤞👍
