Hi Hector! Thank you so much for putting up all of these helpful videos! I am confused on something and I feel like it is possible but can't figure out how to do it. I have been looking at other software to help/fix this issue but I really don't want to switch to something new if Quickbooks can do this and fix this big issue! I have Quickbooks Enterprise 2023 and I am trying to figure out how to purchase items in one unit of measure (for example a case) and sell it in different units (ex. sleeve or a roll) at different prices. For example, I buy a case of masking tape. I can sell the tape (which has 4 sleeves of tape and each sleeve contains 12 rolls of tape so 48 rolls total) as a case for a certain price, or a sleeve of tape for a differnt price (but not for 1/4 of the price of a case), or a roll but not for 1/48 of the case. As of right now, I have these in QB as 3 different inventory numbers but by selling one sleeve it doesn't hit the inventory to decrease the inventory by 1/4 of a case. I end up having to manually adjust inventory which is very time consuming and also makes it hard to calculate sales of an item this way. Is this possible??? This is the only sticking point I have and would love to resolve it in Quickbooks! Thank you so much for your consideration and help! I greatly appreciate it!!! 🙂
@@katypopick5575 its too small of a task for a software to exisit just for that task. But there are two kinda work arounds: 1) put all the prices in the description, so the user can look at it and change it manually 2) if you have QB enterprise platinum, you could use Price Rules to set the volume based price… but honestly, wont work the way you want it.
Hi Hector! Thank you for your videos! Is it possible to have quickbooks to show on invoices the item per unit of sale but also show its equivalent in packing? For example, invoice by the avocado and its corresponding unit price, but show on the invoice an additional column with the equivalence in avocado boxes. Or for example invoice by the inch of wood, showing the unit of sale as inch, but also show to the customer on an additional invoice column what is its equivalence in ft, even if it's being invoiced by the inch.?

Hi Hector , I watch each of your videos. They are very informative. One Question , I do Lubricant business & purchasing / selling comes in corton. So Base Unit is Corton but secondary unit is "LITERS". is it possible to show Primary & Secondary both Units at stock report ?. My vendor uses SAP & they send me stock with delivery challan which is designed as Item code , item name , description , qty in packs , qty in pieces , qty in ltrs. Thanks

If you purchase in a larger unit than you sell (i.e. always purchase a box (BX) containing 12 pieces and sell the individual items from within the box (EA)) is there a best practice for setting up base units? I had originally set them up with EA as the base, however this leads to inaccurate margin/markup as Cost is based on a BX quantity as this is always our purchase unit. If I try to setup the base unit as BX, then QB spits out a warning that the related EA unit is below 1 (i.e. 1/12) and will cause rounding issues and recommends adjusting the base unit to the smallest tracked unit. I am trying to determine the best way to set this up as it will be an incredible amount of time if I have to convert entire vendor price sheets to EA rather than the purchase unit which would have to happen for virtually every product we sell (~12,000) and I am concerned we will end up with further rounding errors as you did (i.e. Wood @ $.99996/in).

Hi Hector - back in the losing voice days :) Is it possible to have different pricing for different u/m. For example, when the client purchases in a 55 gal drum, they get one price from the vendor per gallon and when they purchase a 5 gallon bucket, it's a different cost. I can't see how to make this work
On quickbooks pos, you can set different prices for each unit of measure. For example, let's say each egg is $1, but a crate of 30 each is supposed to be $30, but I set it for $24.99 which is $0.833 per each. Is this possible in quickbooks desktop?
Hector, thanks for the video. What I cannot figure out is we sell cases and packs of lots of products. The packs in some cases are 4 or 6 or 8 or 12. When I try to create a case with 4 pks, it works, but then I try to create a case with 6 pks and QB tells me I have already used that unit. Seems like I am just not getting something.

I have to create the U/M set names of box-6, box-8, box-12 for the different items. I also have to create a new related Units Name and Abbreviation name for each of the U/M set Name. I hope there is a better way to do that.
I sell gold and silver and I use single unit of measure for each coin . Am I doing that right or should I use multiple units of measure ? For example the American gold Eagle is a 1oz coin then there’s a 1/2 coins , etc . So should I stick with the single units since there separate items ? Hi Mr. Hector In a fuel business, Purchase and stocking are in Kg but the sales are in litter, the main challenge is the conversion rate, the base unit (Kg) is always constant, but the secondary unit (liter) and the conversion rate is different in every hour and minute as based on environment temperature density is changing. Hector, hope you are well. We changed to single to multiple u/m per item last year. We have 3,500 items. Now average cost, value of inventory and items on hand are totally off. Is there steps to rectify this???

Bummer because we have had so many cost increase that are real. It is going to be difficult working through this, and being a stickler for “to the Penny” this will probably never be 100%

There is no way to preset a different price based on unit of measure.

Never do that.. if you are going to change the base unit, you need to create a new item and phase the other one out… it could be a disaater otherwise

You can’t? You can do price levels. But not based on U/M unfortunately

Interesting question... I think that if at the end of the day, the price is really based on the weight.. just stick to OZ
