This is why META WEAPONS are so Popular in Elden Ring

- Playing with the best weapons in Elden Ring is quite common, even more than in other Souls games and here's why.

Honestly, you got it pretty spot on - damage scaling aside, weapons need more viable options. Things like stormhawk axe being aow button isn't healthy for the game.
Because it’s easy and it does a lot of damage.
Ds2 animation reference? 👀
It's "easy" because it's not garbage.
Axes, flails, hammers, and daggers being top contender garbage weapon classes.
Why would I use dual flails when I could use one lance?
@@hunterlg13 exactly, they're "easy" because they're not garbage
Did you not see the first 4 secs
BOSSSS WEAPONSSS I GOT BOSSS WEAPONZ
Powerstance > than two-handing (more damage)
Powerstance ranged weapons > than short range weapons (more range)
In summary ,powerstance spears
I thought this was a tier list 😶
scammed
Baited
Weapons crafted by master smiths to represent the gods and their power < big metal pole
Ds1 type beat
Elden ring gives 3 options
1-3 shot everyone with mad range
Hit em 8 times with shitty range
Or just zone em
fromsoft pls bring back drumstick. In dks 2 my fav pvp build was using the little chime shields as melee weapons. That game also had the funny bone fists, whips, and the ladle
There are many fun off meta setups. My favourite being ritualspear. Meta is just overturned. In fact, I exclusively play off meta because meta is too boring and brain dead.
Ritual spear is meta now. And most meta is less braindead than off-meta. Being good doesn't make it "braindead" and being bad doesn't make it "fun".
A flail is much more braindead than PSSS.
@UA-cam Wanderer flail is more brain dead than psss? Flail requires knowledge of spacing and requires getting far more hits to win, especially when against superior weapons. Psss can boiled down to crouch poke and jumping attack with occasionaly r1.
Also, ritual spear is meta? What is your definition of meta? The fact that it's a spear and can be power stanced?
@@bloodfiredrake7259 flail requires game knowledge and that's it, you say that it requires spacing when that's something every single weapon requires because spacing is a core mechanic, not a weapon exclusive one. The weapon doesn't offer anything. PSSS has a lot of different viable attacks and strategies, has mix ups, aggression tools and is good for defensive uses too. With PSSS you can do so much and fight against any match up, with a flail you can swing the thing around until your opponent messes up and gets hit, because outside of the new hyperarmor, flails have nothing when it comes down to gameplay, no aggression tools, no mix ups, no depth at all since all attacks have the same functions, with means you have to win based purely on system mechanics and fundamentals, so the most barebones experience you can get.
Being a bad weapon doesn't make it "deeper" or "less braindead", it makes it bad and that's it. What's more braindead? Doing the same things again and again until your opponent messes up, or actually using a rich moveset to your advantage depending on the situation? One depends on the opponent being bad, the other depends on your skill and outdoing your opponent.
TLDR: Stuff like flails depend exclusively on basic mechanics since tey don't have anything. Stuff like PSSS have the base mechanics AND additional options that make combat better. On a balanced game you want everything to be like PSSS and not everything to be like flails.
@@bloodfiredrake7259 also about the ritual spear, the AoW is meta right now for invasions and teamfights after the buff it received last patch.
You completely forgot about magic. Shit is way to spamable, covers way to much area and has way too good tracking. DS3 did magic well, it was very strong in PVE, but not to strong in PVP, I am getting very sick of dodging waves of piss, star shower, fallingstar beast aow ect ect. And honestly if the mele side of the meta wasnt as strong as it is dealing with it would be an abysmal experience. If theyre not gonna nerf the crap out of magic, i think it would be detrimental to nerf the poke weapons any further.
Good job 🎈🎈🎈
I get tired of seeing double pokey boys. We know theyve been good since day one. Diversify your mind and try something different. PC input delay when in another world isn't good to have either
I'm powerstancing Riviera y Bobo with the wakizashi and it's scuffed af but I like the fashion and all the spells an arcane build gives me. I find the meta boring so I try to do spell combos and push/pull people off ledges and stuff like that instead
Remember reinforced club.
We have stone club now
@@Eo-ms3kw which is much less fun. Ds3 Bonk Machine™ was the best.
reach will always be one of if not the biggest determining factor on whether a weapon is competitive or not, if it doesn't have enough reach it's almost automatically disqualified with a few exceptions. I even enjoy weapons like claws but other than a running attack and maybe jump attacks they don't really have that good of a shot against any experienced player with a longer weapon that is not garbage. Also as mentioned, most weapons feel really incomplete compared to meta picks which have a lot of choices in attack patterns and generally in what the attack is meant for, I would straight-up never use heavy jumping attacks on some weapon because they have way too much ending lag without actually being THAT useful, which sucks because it's like already automatically playing with an attack less than your opponent and that's the best case scenario, with some weapons you literally have to spam one or two attacks repeatedly because the rest is almost useless.
It amazes me that FS decided to balance a game so that some weapons are short, don’t stun and do less damage than big ones. Attack speed is literally useless if all you do in this game is hit and roll away after. 95% of the time you will not use the second attack of an r1 chain.
@@somesmoothmovement you can only do it if it has high enough dps to actually win you the trade (which it never does) or if you're stacking up some status effect. Otherwise it's probably gonna get you hit or killed since trading is better for bigger weapons anyways. Also hit and roll would be better than what we got, since most of the times you just can't get in against longer weapons without taking a hit (which goes back to the trading reasoning). To be fair I don't think making the dps higher is a good way to solve this, changing some attacks to have more frame advantage and possibly a bit more range might help but I'm not sure to what extent it would matter.
Big long explanation about how meta nonsense is fun, buffs, forgets level design, dies, refuses to elaborate, leaves. 10/10 video.
Everyone knows about level design and how half the areas in the game are just a big open field, with counted great areas to invade
Because everything else does laughable damage. I have been cheesing the game with Deaths Poker and it completely BLOWS EVERYTHING ELSE OUT OF THE WATER. Like, literally NOTHING else comes close! Only very few bosses am I struggling now
Meta only matters for PVP. In PVE, anything goes.
Truth, anything in pve can be fun, hell I'd argue that meta pvp gets boring without the human element of pvp
next please why META ASHS OF WAR are so Popular
Because they are not poorly developed, not poorly thought out and aren't trash.
Does Carian Greatsword's existence bother you? It bothers me.
@@asdergold1 Carian Great sword/Grandeur is pretty good in PvE for one shotting bosses with sleep pots :)
@@FoulUnderworldCreature I'm talking about the worthless and pointless lesser version, which is both weaker and slower. Grandeur has been buffed a bit since launch so it's not utter trash.
Honestly I'm not sure what they were thinking when they made a stationary and incredibly slow charge ash with limited range and then made a better version of it.
@@asdergold1 ah okay. Yeah stuff like that and determination are there so PvE has some sort of progression I guess. Doesn't make much sense in an open world game.
@@asdergold1 also stuff like the slam AoW, which are useless even at PvE.
That elperla host you invaded at the end, he has been there for DAYS. ran into him using full bullgoats, ps gs, assiassins gambit and whatever spell to make yourself unlockon-able. AND has Bernahl. After he kills you he drops dung pots on you and it's been days he's been doing this. He's been sending hate mail and everything to anyone who messages him too. Got so hype to see you kill him, then 🙃
Maybe they could also use the weapons' actual scaling modifier for weapon skill damage calculation instead of using generic modifiers based on infusion.
Plus, I hope they'll nerf powerstance damage to about the same level as status buildup
Unfortunately I run fashion Souls and the meta in Elden Ring rarely looks good or unique. I may get clapped a lot, but at least I look damn fine getting clapped.
I've always thought animations were everything in this game. They have to look good, feel good, and play good to make Dark Souls combat work given its intended methodical nature... It is the MAIN reason I have such a fondness for DS2. Great point on the mechanics unique to ER as well. The game is so damn close, yet so far away.
7:43 yay steel talked about the other way to do bunny hops. One thing I've noticed about the release and hold sprint again midair bunny hop iteration is, if you have high fps and stable low input lag, it's fine to just release and hold sprint to do instant sprinting jump when landing. But if you're in a even tiny bit laggy area or the game is shitting itself for any other reason, spamming circle a few times before holding it again does the trick.
Everyone and they dead grandma using morgott cs right now and I hate it. Pure cringe weapon.
Try Magma Wyrm's Scalesword and kill them with the L2. Remember you can turn with the follow-up.
@asdergold1 might have to do thaf
Yeah I hate it got buffed was my old friend
@@meme_ajin You also jump with it and are low on the ground after landing and remain low with the Follow-up, so keep that in mind.
In the end two things ultimately decide the power of a weapon, barring absurd numbers in the damage department: moveset and reach. Those are the things that enable you to put the damage the weapon can inflict to use.
Does anyone know if there is a place where I can find all the true combos?
@Gigasthiccas does lots of true combo finding.

The meta has killed pvp for me. I loved it at first, however i make cosplays and spend an insane amount of time making my builds as true to the character as possible, and to see everyone running one of 5 different meta builds is so boring and makes me feel that i wasted all my time genuinely developing my own builds.
My boyfriend really likes shunter, it reminds him of the storm weapon from ds3 exfept its actually a good weapon outside its gimmick
I thought dragonslayer swordspear was amazing in ds3 :(
@@hunterlg13 it is man any vertical halberd can just safely aim for trades, this one has a good running too, so also people wanna roll in on it a lot with the huge range too so fishing becomes stronger. it aint meta meta like shunter but i lose to it a lot
@@SleepingChimes I remember fishing like crazy with it.
And it's a weapon with different moveset in one hand or two hands.
Mixups kek.
Ur boyfriend is a casual who spams crouch poke
@@aceboogie8941 thats why i always win with the throwing him to the bed and rollcatch "curved sword" r2 truecombo
Does anyone think that reworking the poise system so that smaller weapons stun a little would increase the viable weapon pool?
you wont have a good time against 3 enemies with small weapons that can compete your poise without switching to something to entirely counter them
@@holmesholmes.8784 Good point. I always think about ways to improve the weapons, without completely reworking the animations or some mechanics. I would not know what to tell FS…
@@somesmoothmovement unless it is something possible within theit engine, there is a high chance that they would only really expense resources to attempt something possible
That would be a nightmare. Poise and the speed at which some weapons swing is wonky af. Like how tf can a colossal weapon swing as fast as a great hammer That weighs 1/3? Anything great or colossal should not be able to be powerstanced. Poise should have a cap imo and if poise is going to be so important, we should be able to alter all gear to increase poise so everyone is not running around in the same 5 sets or armor
I find meta to be boring af. I’ve been playing in blue cloth gear and using scimitars and it’s fun. Damage is lower and I’m using random ashes and it’s been fun. Any cosplay is pretty fun other than the guts you see every 3 fights. Knights, marionette soldiers, duelists and Soldiers are my go to
There should literally be a formula that equalizes speed/range/stagger/damage values where the devs just slide and lock a couple GUI knobs and the rest is auto calculated so there's always an equal payoff to weapon stats and movesets
No, screw that 😂
You want everything to do the same damage?
@@Blittsplitt5 i didn't say damage i said payoff. Like some do better damage, some do better stagger, etc. as i said originally
The meta of all time!
Game is ass, ds3 still infinitely better
I like them both, though the pvp is much to be desired
@@Risky_roamer1 the pvp is ultimately the longevity of the game for me, cuz I love the core mechanics of souls games and I'm not about to sit there and replay the same storyline repeatedly. So to me, if the pvp is fundamentally broken, then the whole game is ass.
@@devinn4076 I personally think pvp and pve are 2 different things, but ok
@@Risky_roamer1 oh they definitely are, but I only really enjoy the pvp. The actual game just feels like a chore. But that's just my personal opinion
@@devinn4076 opposite for me, but eh
Tier list clickbait
What settings do you run ER at? I'm getting frame drops and my PC is uber overkill for Elden Ring.
Try turning ray tracing off
And lowering shadows
@@teknyon I ended up doing... a ton of different shit, and what ended up helping was changing my Power Plan in Windows to Balanced and disabling Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator in Device Settings
Max settings ray tracing set to low. Stable 60 no drops ever. Rtx 3070 paired with ryzen 5800x. Also play at 1440p and with another monitor open.
Some stuff sucks in PvP but is pretty good in PvE and that's fine.
As you said at 1.17 of video,Attacks are not telegraphed in hard swapping as well ,so accordingly is it also not healthy for game , just want your opinion 🙏
