I love the incised saying - "NO ACT OF KINDNESS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, IS EVER WASTED".This is a Bunny signature, as much as any other design element in your work.
This really highlights why you pay for a great landscape designer. Natural & effortless beauty isn't effortless. And when you look at the before pictures, you have to admit that as being the owner, you could have never achieved these results in such a short amount of time. The entire place appears so natural as if it's been there forever.
That enormous, solid bench is terrific and I want my sons to make one. .I must tell you though, that anyone with walking difficulties might trip tri on that path; even a stick can catch as a toe does, and it's so wearying having to take the long way instead.
Love your videos and it’s clear a lot of thought went into the content. Any chance of readjusting/testing/replacing your wireless microphone? It’s hard to hear you clearly without increasing volume and the sound clarity suffers. Maybe it’s something than needs adjusting in post?
Hi Mark, bound gravel is gravel where the particles are not totally loose. So you can walk on it with stilettos or push a wheel chair over it. There are several kinds. At Thyme we used Breedon gravel. This has small particles of stone and small bits of clay fines in it. When you lay it you roll it and at the same time flood the roller with water so that the clay fines float to the surface and then set so they form a cap of sorts over the surface. You can not pull weeds out though as it breaks the surface, you have to use a weed killer. We laid this gravel on pedestrian paths at Althrop estate, in case you ever visited. It has to be laid to slopes of approx 1:50. You can use resin bonded gravel, you can see pix of this at the Horatio’s Garden we did at Oswestry hospital, it is featured in the Happy in the Garden video. This is much more expensive and some think the finish looks too perfect. We used it there as the beds and wheel chairs can not cope with an uneven surface or a slope greater than 1:100. The gravel there is self draining ie the water can percolate through the surface. But some types of resin bonded don’t do this. You can also do tar spray bound gravel, where you spray a layer of bitumen (colas) and then roll in a layer of attractive small gravel. You can repeat this process 2-3 times. Finally (if you have not fallen asleep yet) you can put down a mesh of plastic hexagons about 100mm wide , and fill with the gravel. The gravel can not move, so again you can walk on it with stiletto heels with out damaging them, you can lay this on steep slopes, use it for pedestrian and vehicular areas. You should not see hexagon mesh if properly laid. Breedon is the cheapest form and the most natural. Hope this helps, we might well do a video on it as gravel is a great form of paving but causes huge confusion! Very best, bunny

That quote was Caryn Hibbert’s idea, she is the founder of Thyme. I agree a great quote. 🐇
