- A new app is helping blind people solve everyday problems by combining smartphones video technology and an army of armchair volunteers.
World Hacks investigates how it works and explores whether micro-volunteering projects like this have the potential to solve all kinds of problems in the future.

I really like this app. The amazing part is that the ratio seems to be 19:1 of volunteers to visually impaired. My only complaint is that I don’t get enough calls! I hope the visually impaired know we want to be there for them in this way and they should never hesitate to call and ask for assistance.

BTW I am colour blind and will volunteer, but I think there are times when I could also use it. I would never to a urine dip stick test myself, always had my secretaries read the colours, but there were times when they weren't there.
And now I do a lot with climate charts, and I can't see lots of data.
Yes, we do know that you’re there and available to help us. And, thank you. I for one, always tend to get a little overenthusiastic or rather over emotional, when ever I get help from one of you guys. As I tend to be very grateful. And excited :-)

i just started to volunteer for this app today, i'm so excited to get my first call! i absolutely adore helping people so when i heard about this i knew i had to sign up!

Does the app know to match you up with a person who knows the same language?
Elliott Jones Yes, you can enter into the system the languages you speak and it will match you with the proper person.
It's a brilliant idea so simple but so effective. When will this be available on Android? Android holds 86% of the smartphone market whilst iPhone only 13%. You could x the number of volunteers by 8 by making this available to Android
It's available on Google Play, and the number of volunteers is now into the seven-figure range :-)

But if u r verifying their stat i say that it must be based on the developer specific numbers (don't know how BC if Android was released after it should be lower)
But to you both - the consumer market overall is near 50/50 and has been for some time

Stay blind you are OK if you can see again an you will realize what the leaders of the nations have make to the people you will fall in to heavy depression so stay in the dark doesn't matter do you know how many people can see but they wish to be blind millions.

Nice, I've seen apps that can do this with algorithms though. Tommy Edison (the blind film critic on youtube) has an app where one can take a picture of something and it says what it is.

Luca Kommentarkanal ‘Voiceover’ in accessibility settings reads the buttons aloud so ppl know where to tap on their phone screen. Android has a thing in accessibility settings too.
Most smart phones now are fitted with accessible features. With the iPhone you have VoiceOver which is a screen reader. android has Talkback. currently I am dictating this message to you using my phone but I could type it on the screen or with my Braille keyboard just as you use your keyboard on screen.

Well, basically I have so much experience with kids, toys et cetera that my friends all come to me for gift buying for their children. Just a joke really. I’m so pleased that this video and app has helped so many different people across the globe! Thank you all for your kind comments
