    The tune from this song is a take off from the Civil War song "Just Before the Battle Mother" If you can find it it is worth a listen too.

    This is not a Woody Guthrie song. It was written and originally performed by Goebel Reeves. Woody loved the song and added it to his repertoire. When performs it, he leaves out two verses that Woody never included, but they're the best verses in the song. Check out UA-cam to hear them.

      Heartily agreed! I have an all-mahogany 12-string that I usually keep in open C but I just restrung it and tuned it like John's, standard but 1-1/2 steps down, just so I could play this tune over and over. Absolutely love that sound!

    Yeah but I wanna hear the rest of the story, John...like how did YOU get your hands on it, and maybe, who has the other three? I wish a guitar company could put out a small batch of these.
