It's interesting that there's quite a bit of clever futurism in this story that isn't even set in the future. He's trying to be 100% up to date with his present and feels like he needs to sniff out trends just to do that.
First time I ever heard of a Curta was reading Pattern Recognition. I have a acquaintance who has one, and I got to play with it for a few minutes. I would like to have one as sort of an ultimate math fidget toy.
Sorry for the re-upload! I have fixed audio issues from the original.
Thanks Chris. I thought I'd seen a 'knurlier' version of this vid
I didn't think it was that bad
It was fine for me, but I get it.
Im too old and deaf to have heard the high-pitched noise in the other vid but I'll gladly watch again.
I could never hear it either! But my kids could hear it, and frequencies in audio software did show something.
dang, really makes me feel old. I never noticed the high pitch ring on the original video.

Thank you for reuploading, sir. I really appreciate it! And you did a wonderful job, as always, great video!
I remember reading this book when it came out! I was never able to afford the curta, but I do have my MA-1 buzz rickson jacket
I already saw this, but it is missing my like. Rewatching.
I was just playing typeracer and at the end when it revealed the passage I typed was from this book, I was like "Curta!" 😳
Curta
Need rename so I know this is the 6th day of Curtsmas
