left to right:
Layne - beatboxer
Cesar (latino guy) - baritenor
J.None (black guy) - baritone/rap
Eli (rhymes with jelly) (bald guy) - tenor
Geoff - bass
correction
Geoff - bass squared to the power of fucking hell thats deep
@@bigfrankfraser1391 I agree. No shade to Matt from Pentatonix, or Tim from Home Free (who has blown speakers with his bass before) but Geoff is freaking phenomenal. Here, My Mother Told Me, Dream On, and parts of Oogie Boogie.
Geoff's starting note that he holds for so long is a B0 and that high riff of Eli's that you loved so much goes up to an A5 that are Aliens that sometimes forget they are supposed to be blending in.
They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! Geoff hits 3 B0's! Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us that rap indeed belongs in acapella! And Miracle of Sound gave this 10 out of 10 raised ale horns!! Great reaction! This from the Assassins Creed Valhalla video game, but that rap is all J None!! Great Reaction!!!
Those switch ups were crazy
The first time I heard Voiceplay was one of their Panic! At the Disco medleys and Geoff hit a note so low I felt like my lungs could not inflate. Love these guys.
This is one of my favs from VoicePlay. It's just so freaking good! I was ready to head off to war after listening to it! Really fun reaction! ❤
Beautiful simply beautiful love it. Music from around the world it's amazing especially the story tellers. You should look up the story behind this song Valhalla it's incredible. PLEASE LOOK IT UP MAKES THE SONG MEAN SO MUCH MORE. ♥️♥️
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯 yes , yes , yes , yes Sebs !!!! Yesssssssssssss more Viking music 🔥 More Voiceplay 🔥 love it brother !!!! Keep them coming 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Yes, please check out all those other VoicePlay videos you listed near the beginning! I also recommend their version of The Wellerman.
You won't regret watching the Vikings. Incredible. I have a bit 'o that DNA. Iceland and northwest Europe, both sides of the Baltic.
Enjoy your explorations and thanks for sharing.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
The composer of this number goes by Miracle of Sound. Since I'm not into and am pretty much ignorant of the game it was written for, VoicePlay's video was my introduction to it. I immediately looked up the others for my playlist, making 5. MoS has a solo version out. Plus one featuring Peyton Parrish. Plus one featuring Eric Hollaway & Peyton Parrish. Peyton has how own solo version. Mr. Hollaway's bass voice, speaking or singing, will shake your bones. VP's is the only one with rap. This one is considered the followup/sequel to My Mother Told Me from 2 years ago. J None was still a member of the group and Cesar hadn't joined yet. The guest was Jose Rosario, Jr. J None is now in the middle of a 5-year stint singing for the navy and comes in as a guest performer when on leave. All the guys are wearing the same outfit in both video with a few changes Caesar, the newest VoicePlay member is wearing Jose's hooded cloak and Geoff's leather shirt. Geoff drew the fur piece hanging from one shoulder across his chest to make a shirt. One more thing: These boys aren't known as the theater kids of a cappella for nothing. Check out Phantom of the Opera for an older one, when Tony Wakim was still with them. Wonderful!
Great reaction!! And, love that you checked out the origins of the song, the original version, the VP arrangement, the performers. Loved every bit of your review. Yeah the rap is a VP addition to the original and since you gravitated to J. None in Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling was a great next reaction. So looking forward to your next reaction choice!! Can't wait!!
I like your style, young man!! Liked and subscribed. I listened to your reaction of Nothing Else Matters, and really enjoyed your surprise and your appreciation. Anyone who enjoys these guys (as much as you obviously do) deserves MY subscription. All a cappella is great (okay, not all), but these guys are top tier.
The one with the insane tenor voice is Eli. If you listen to one of their songs from a few years ago, you wouldn't believe it's the same singer. You'll love Hoist the Colors. I think that's the one where I was like "Where the heck did Eli learn to sing like that?" He can sing clean or put in some of the better vocal fry I've heard across his whole range. He's gotten to the point where he's as good as a tenor as Geoff is as a bass and they've been using that effectively. Oh and Eli also does a lot of the set/lighting design for their videos.
Ok. I want to see this on Broadway!!!
Miracle of Sound posted on VoicePlays' page and gave them 10 alehorns out of 10 for the most creative cover they had heard and seen. The first Viking video they did with Jose Rosario Jr. My Mother Told Me. Eli is pronounced Elly rhymes with jelly.
Voiceplay also did The Greatest Showman! ❤
I'll send a couple your way: VoicePlay has done an apocalyptic trilogy over the last 3 yrs. Start with Warriors (Imagine Dragons), then Dream On (Aerosmith), and follow that with Seven Nation Army (White Stripes). Gaming sounds: Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halo Theme; Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton), Hoist the Colours (Pirates of the Caribbean and the first VP I ever saw/heard), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Running Up That Hill (Stranger Things/Kate Bush)
The other name you were searching for was Cesar de la Rosa. Rock tenor is Eli Jacobson (like jelly). Cesar is the youngest and newest in the group. Geoff and Layne are in their early 40's and have sung together since middle school. Not sure about J's age..
It's VoicePlay's creativity's - as well as their voices - that sets them apart, in my opinion. They way they re-imagine their covers is superb, whoever is doing the arrangment, Layne, Geoff or occasionally Eli. They added the rap section to the original song. I don't know whose idea that was. Just so you know, Eli is short for Eliezer in this case, and is pronounced as ellie, to rhyme with jelly. Or belly. Not eel-eye. :) Nice reaction.
2:54 Geoff hits a Subharmonic B0 for 15 secs
Geoff has such a Wide vocal range. He taught himself to sing in that low bass register.
Same and now i have hit a D0 with ingressive and a A7 inhale whistle but need to work on flageolet bc i cant do it
Amazing! I had never heard that song. It is now on my playlist.
If you liked this you should check out their cover of My Mother Told Me
Great reaction, thanks for covering this one. It is indeed a phenomenal production! Check out My Mother Told Me for more VoicePlay Viking magic!!
BROOOO, you had me cracking up over here. You were definitely not ready for this lmfao. (first hispanic viking....ROFLmao!!!
As a guitar player it's one thing to hear someone so much better - you can hang your guitar on the wall and walk away. But what happens with acappella - there must be lots of new trophies on the walls of Valhalla.
Love this one!
The show Vikings is AMAZING.
Have you listened to Geoff's Ghost Riders in the Sky? It's really great.
Another group you should check out is The HU, pronounced the who but They are from Mongolia. Try the Yuve Yuve Yu. Interesting.
Payton Parish
YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT MY MOTHER TOLD ME ,ANOTHER VIKING SONG OF THEM,MAGNIFICENT. A FUN FROM GREECE.
eli rhymes with jelly. ❤
Really awesome stuff! I would recommend you to listen to Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live). He's one of the best if not THE best viking inspired artist in the world.
... now I want to know this cover's CPR-usefulness rating🤔
You should hear Payton Parrish’s version of this song. Totally rocks. Voice plays great don’t get me wrong but Payton rocks this song.
You have to listen the version of feuerschwanz
There's only one black guy. Cesar is Puerto Rican.
We are Vikings
They are honestly better than the original by far!!!
You may want to try Volfgang twins.
Gotta get headphones for the full experience. You're missing so much in the background.
Lol! Too late! Jose Rosario Jr. Beat you to it. Watch My Mother Told Me by VoicePlay.
If you haven't, you should react to Clint Black and his wife Lisa Hartman. Song is "When I Said I Do". Listen to it with your beautiful wife. Heart melting love song. :)
This was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding way back in 2002! It is a great love song!
Eli is pronounced "elly" as in "jelly".
Skal
Check out Danheim
You really think black dudes weren’t included in Viking society?
We were very mixed. They raided everywhere.
Wtf an African in Norse themed music.
That’s just so wrong.
Dude, you SERIOUSLY need to get headphones to fully appreciate Voiceplay, because sometimes Geoff goes so low you can't hear it without headphones.
You can actually hear a lot more with a studio/home theater set up with a sub. The sub especially makes anything bass significantly more impactful, and I'm assuming from him saying his room is shaking means he has a sub and at least some decent speakers.
@@HossLUK Ah, thanks for the tip. I wish I could afford a set-up like that! Still, headphones add a whole other layer, but that's just my opinion. Plus, it's fun to feel the vibrate when Geoff goes incredibly low.
@@DravenGal yea, that's the one thing i hate about home theater products, is it's all so expensive. I only have a 5.1 set up with my dad's old subwoofer, but it still cost me over 2 grand. But whenever i watch action movies or just listen to music, the bass shakes everything and it makes everything a lot more impactful. So, to me it's worth saving up for, but it's not something i have the money to really get into beyond what i already have. At least not right now.
@@HossLUK I feel that!
Ive heard G#-1s without headphones so its clearly not how low it is thats the problem
Eli (ellie) created the backdrops on gaming software and it was projected onto giant LED screens. Layne is so good, I have to remind myself that J did not crash through a huge wooden door, that was Layne!
The rap was written by a friend of theirs.
They are dropping a new one at the end of the week, different vibe all together.
Great reaction, man!
So I search for Voiceplay reaction...and I run into you...again. Seems like there is more good music on this channel than just Nightwish. (like that is a thing you can say ''just Nightwish', but I just did) What happened to the treadmill?
Amazing. Never heard these guys. Can't stop listening! 😃💋
These guys are masters of their skills. Just when you thought you knew them, they throw you for a loop. Not to mention all the easter eggs they hide in this one.
Layne not only arranged this one he pushed everyone to their limits including himself
Cesar showed he's not just a pretty face with an angelic voice he has grit and can be a .... The Ruins on his face actually spell out Voiceplay
Eli revived his bezerker self and went to challenge Jupiter
Geoff went to depth deeper then hades (3 B0, second white key on the piano) and destroyed it.
J None slayed his part, and yes they added the rap section (not found in the original). He might just be the Navy's secret weapon 😊😅😂🤣😉
Just another FYI, they were filming in a studio who AC went out during a Florida Heatwave, so the poor guy were running around in furs 🥵
Talk about dedication
I introduced a friend of mine to Geoff Castellucci and he asked me, "Damn, what scale was that?" I told him, "Richter Scale" lol
*Bro* Welcome to my heritage.! Look into *Jonna Jinton* she has a HUGE UA-cam following. This music will grow on you.! Oh and I've been *SUBSCRIBED* for a long while but this one caught my eye.... *Takk* , much appreciated
The hip-hop verse was added by VoicePlay. That cheeky grin on Geoff's face when he goes subharmonic. 😂
J. None used to be a permanent member, but he's now singing with the Navy. He's the one who did the hip-hop verse. He may be back when his tenure is up. Eli (pronounces it Elly) is the high rock tenor. Cesar is the newest permanent member.
You need to react to their cover of the "Halo" theme......
If you watch Hoist the Colours, you could follow it up with the cover of what Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor. Same guest artist, Jose Rosario Jr, but a whole different vibe.
A big favorite of a lot of fans is their cover of Oogie Boogie song from the film Nightmare before Christmas. It very much features Geoff as Oogie Boogie and the end really shows his range.
He has a solo channel as well and clones himself so that there are generally four Geoffs and he can cover ranges all the way up to tenor. The most impressive one to me that really shows him singing in all the ranges is his cover of I See Fire from the second hobbit movie Desolation of Smaug. He had quite a bit of help with the customer and make up but rest assured those are all him.
Just this week he dropped his cover of the Johnny Cash classic Folsom Prison Blues. In it we got to see a new skill of his: the harmonica. When he was working for Universal studios, he had to learn it for the Blues Brothers Review. He only got to be Elwood a few times but he had to learn to play the harmonica and dusted off his skills.
since you liked this one sebs, you most likely like their cover of "my mother told me"
Voiceplay is amazing. Great reaction. Your a gamer you'll like halo cover or dragon born comes. G'day from Australia.
I was on hold with the Veteran's Administration for over an hour today and they never did pick up the phone and talk about the issue I needed resolved. I didn't realize how much I needed this today. Thank you!
His bass so so damn good I saw your camera shake 😂
This is the second Viking song they've done. They did My Mother Told Me with Jose Rosario Jr 2 years ago.
Awesomesauce 💯
AMAZING!!
You are doing great... waiting for your reaction on the new VP productions!? Try to get headphones, won't you!? It sounds even better!!🎉😂❤
First, i love your reactions. You have to listen to Geoff Castellucci`s solos. Sixteen Tons for example. I love it!
Oh, if you are a video game nerd! They did Skyrim and Halo! Also an ACA top 10 Video games!
This isn’t even the best Viking song they did, they also did “My Mother Told Me” with the same crew and the same costumes.
Oogie Boogies song by voice play. Let's geoff play with his base vocals
Love your commentary. Subscribed. More VP of course please ;-). They are amazing and masters of their own artistic direction - as they do almost everything themselves. The passion shows. I feel like you about listening to A capella but VP is the exception - I do buy their covers. Great ear-candy.
I think this was meant as a follow up to their cover of My Mother Told Me which was another Viking song they previously did.
My 6 yr old granddaughter loves this video .
Sebs, I bet the guy singing bass is a hoot on Halloween when he dresses up as Lurch from the Addams Family.
Actually, Geoff and his wife both performed in universal studios Beetlejuice rock and roll graveyard review for over 10 years as Frankenstein monster and the bride of Frankenstein. So your characterization of him as Lurch is not that far off!
Loved the heck out of this! Great reaction!
I forgot to tell you to play the video with the words at the bottom.
THANK YOU, SO MUCH for looking at the original by Miracle of Sound. A lot of reactors I've been seeing have never heard the original, and then listen to VoicePlay's version, never knowing what the first one sounds like. I feel like anytime you want to listen to a cover, it's best to listen to the original, even if just a little. You can appreciate the changes and adaptations of the cover better that way.
And seriously, Miracle of Sound's music is so great.
Peyton Parrish is amazing
Hoist the colors is awesome
Eli has this knack of not just belting high notes, but doing it with fullness, grit and precision. And making it sound effortless.
Like, I’ve never heard him hit a note and thought he was struggling; he always seems to have something left in the tank.
Totally hit up Seven Nation Army. Their guest there is a kid named Anthony. I don’t recall how he spells his last name, but it’s pronounced Gar-jewel-a and looks nothing like that. He’s another powerful high tenor with some crazy skill at runs and listening to him and Eli bounce the lead back and forth is divine.
Oh you have to react to Dan Vasc singing Valhalla (Song of The Vikings)!
Also Dan Vasc singing
I'll Make A Man Out of You. Yes from the cartoon movie Mulan!! And his rendition of Amazing Grace.
All are FIRE!! ❤
Loved this song and the whole production! I agree with you. You should come up with a whole exercise playbook with Viking songs. I’ll be your first customer, the world has had their share of great woman warriors in the past!
Cesar is the first Latino Viking and they added the rap voiceplay are so versatile ❤🏴
Video game nerd? Check out their cover of Dragon Born Comes from Skyrim.
Do not miss HALO.
Mad respect that you think to make sure you know what the do creatively to change the song.
Yassssssss! ❤
If I remember correctly, there was no rap interlude in Miracle of Sound's original version. Now, normally I do not like rap, and was initially put off by it introduction in this amazing song, but I always give a work of art the benefit of reading/listening to the whole thing, and, I gotta be honest--*the rap lyrics work!* Within the context of the original lyrics, they fit powerfully. Bully for them for embellishing the song that way.
I haven't watched this, but if you want some of the best and most authentic Viking music out right now...
Heilung - In Maidjan : ua-cam.com/video/kmWTZ3KfnXE/v-deo.html
*EXCELLENT suggestion* !
Please check out Miracle of Sound's version
Its all good voiceplay they really are, but the version with Payton Parrish - valhalla calling me is for me the real viking vibe and the true northen spirit. At least for me whos from Skandinavia.
Personally I like the Payton Parrish version better. He has a grittier more rock/metal voice and instrumental arrangement that I feel fits the song and subject better.
I will say the bass on this one is crazy though.
You should do a reaction to Wolf Totem by The Hu they do Mongolian throat singing
I love Jeff a ton but man Eli need some props for holding those out rageous notes high up there.
Eli's name is pronounced "ellie".
I listen to this and quite a few of their other songs when I lift and it gets me so pumped
This isnt voice play version
its nuts but yeah that bass wow total goosebumps
VIKINGS major awesome series
A MUST watch
