Great review as always. Very impressed with the performance versus the form-factor. I'm glad to see it is compatible with GNU/Linux. I surely don't need one now but its good to see how good are turning this kind of Fanless Mini PCs.
Bought the Quieter 2 a few months ago. Wanted to use it as a home theater server to stream Netflix desktop app, Qobuz streaming CD quality music app through JRiver with Dirac DSP speaker correction software. Was balky, dropped and stalled, would not stream HDR 10 or even 4k Netflix (had to drop it down to 1080P), and it died after 5 weeks. So not IMHO a good idea for a home theater server.
Wow that is awful. I would think it would either fail after 1 day or fail after 10 years. I hope more major companies make mini PCs. Will be worth an extra $50 if they can promise reliability and come with a warranty.
This would be a great box for Batocera OS , the emulation station for all consoles possible ... just flash it on a SD or a USB stick , place it on as a boot drive and your set ... all games in 1080p 60fps from Nes to C64 to Amiga to Snes to Gnesis to PS1\PS2 to Dreamcast ... etc...
Hi there. Thanks for all you do. You’ve helped me out in a lot of my projects. I am looking at this mini pc for a plex media server. Would of be able to stream 4K hdr content while wired without hiccups? Thank you sir.
Hi Lon, thanks for the great content. I'm thinking about picking one of these up. Is the 8GM memory dual or single channel? Another reviewer thought is was single. What is the impact of single vs dual ? Thanks.
I saw the browser results and said "wonder how my phone does" just for giggles (Galaxy S21 Ultra) - 85.3. Is that a pretty reliable comparison, or would my phone have an advantage? Seems crazy that a pc of any size can't beat last year's galaxy flagship lol.
Anyone know if this could actually be powered by a portable power bank? I realize it's not USB PD compliant... looking for a good / better travel PLEX server and it would be nice to upgrade from the Raspberry Pi 4 I'm currently using
This guy bullied me really bad in high school. He spread the rumor that I had AIDS so none of the girls would date me. I will never ever forgive him for that. Literally ruined my life.
Though I'm not downplaying bullying per sé, forgiving someone starts with forgiving oneself for holding grudges, IMHO. High school's tough, I get it, but life's got more curve balls to throw at us than we expect, so that we develop a thicker skin, so let go and live life is my motto.
@@ganesang5537 I’m supposed to forgive him for convincing the entire school that I had full-blown AIDS?! Even the teachers believed him and one made me sit in a different room from the other students.
Smart. You touched the right strings to get someone cancelled, allegued some impossible to prove/deny far past agression/bullyng in high school, public shaming a person who shows his face and its recognizable (not as you, who are just a random nick)....probably you have a rival channel of reviews and do this to different streamers....But not going that far to accuse it formally with something who can make censorship act, just the right amount of infamy to make him lose some viewers. YOU ARE THE WORST man.
Just built a plex server with it... works great. Running lubuntu 22.04. One note though the 5.15 kernel has a bug affecting loading HW transcoding software. I updated the kernel to 5.18 and bingo bango full hardware transcode. Tested with 14G, 4k HEVC file transcoding down to 480p... CPU ran between 12% to 35% usage and ran flawlessly
I recently replaced our old time clock computer with one of these. Due to some issues that I eventually founded to be caused by Windows 11 putting some power settings inside Settings and some conflicting power settings in the old Control Panel, I decided to put this mini PC through a lot more troubleshooting after a rocky rollout as our replacement time clock computer, including a torture test that it handled quite well at full load. Nice little PC as long as you don't need anything high-spec.
This is a great value for a NAS/Plex server! Glad to see the Celeron's finally cracking the 4000 Passmark barrier. Those N4100's that were in a lot of the mini PC's a couple years ago were garbage.
As a postscript to my post of 6 months ago, I bought the Quieter 3Q to replace the Quieter 2, and the 3Q is much better. I have it run 4K HDR for Netflix and it does it just fine as long as I drop it down. Since most of Netflix is 23.98 FPS, that what I dropped its resolution down to, and it seems to work just fine for everything. UA-cam experience around a 1 in 30 frame dropout rate when I do Stats for Nerds. Frankly, I don't even notice. Lip sync seemss fine for everything. Finally I also do a lot of aggressive DSP with all my audio (Bass mgt, 5.1 Audio, PEQ via JRiver MC 30 and Room and speaker correction via Dirac) and it handle everything in stride. It's just good enough. Runs hot to the touch, and does have those missed frames. Occasionally when I use it as a web browser, I notice it becomes unresponsive, but that may not even be its fault. It's dead quiet, which is very important in a home theater application. Basically, I've been able, using this as a home theater processor, to do away with the dorm refrigerator sized home theater receiver and just send the audio to my multi channel usb dac (Octo Research DAC 8) and from there to my ultra high quality amps (Purifi Eval 1's). It's a better sound than any receiver could deliver, takes up less space, and costs less. And this unit only $260. Just wish it were just a little more powerful and ran a little cooler.
I own a square version of this mini pc with an active fan (The Aero 2 by Aerofara): the 5105 works flawlessly with Lubuntu 22.04.1 (also because 4k runs without any framedrops, and that's due to Lubuntu which needs much fewer recources than W11). The only thing that is not supported (for now) is the soundcard, but Aerofara included an USB audio card to compensate 🙂 The MeLE Quieter3Q will probably run 4k content without framedrops when Lubuntu is installed 😉
What are you talking about with the usb c power supply thing? You re saying it wont work with another compatible usb c charger and cable? That makes no sense...
I was thinking for months in purchasing a mini pc, but the lack of usb c was a deal breaker. I ended buying a NUC and upgrading it. Hope this brand makes better IO next time. Thanks for sharing the review!
I have the slower J4125 version of this running Home Assistant on a 1tb NVMe M.2 2280, Internal Solid State Drive. It's running great. Overkill in fact. Highly recommend this over a pi.
I have been useing MeLE Quiter 2Q with my Roku TV I use for monator 2160p 4K over a wear , I am 73 Years old and am just a normal user, It worls great, Never had problem with Heat
This would make a really good openwrt box for cheap cause it has a aes-ni throw some gigabit USB adapters at it even the lowest 4gb 128gb box would be great for it just snagged it :)

Thanks and great review. Very much appreciated
This looks to be a very well-designed mini PC.

not there yet with this one...maybe next generation will play 4k video properly

Dual channel. It’s mentioned near the start of the video, shortly after the disclaimer.
I want a PC to put behind my Audio wrack out of sight. Connect to my 4k TV and stream Tidal, UA-cam and web browse.
I saw the browser results and said "wonder how my phone does" just for giggles (Galaxy S21 Ultra) - 85.3. Is that a pretty reliable comparison, or would my phone have an advantage? Seems crazy that a pc of any size can't beat last year's galaxy flagship lol.
I'd say so - those phones are pretty powerful!
It would be nice to see if it is as good at running BSD, e.g. to run as a small NAS or email server.
Do i can install Windows 11 pro version from microsoft's website?
👍🏻👍🏻

It would work if it could output 12 volts / 2 amps
This guy bullied me really bad in high school. He spread the rumor that I had AIDS so none of the girls would date me. I will never ever forgive him for that. Literally ruined my life.
Don't see the relevance to the video. Also dating in high school is not that serious :/

Now this size-form-factor with a low-power AMD APU would be KILLER...
This is actually a good processor. It is faster than an i5 6200u and a bit worse than i5 7200u. This celeron is quite impressive.

It's has SD card slot, it's a definitely plus. But the processor is a weak for serious multimedia work. Passed.
bro is gaming with a server...
Is there a model with usd-c pd?
What are you talking about with the usb c power supply thing? You re saying it wont work with another compatible usb c charger and cable? That makes no sense...
This one is not compatible with USB-C PD chargers but the newer models are.

Can I install Windows 10 instead of the preinstalled Windows 11?
Would be a good little machine for putting Google TV on, I think?
Have you tried to enable and get working wake on lan?
That's interesting man
What's the price, I must have missed it?
When pc's like these are in the $100 range i'll use these instead of Android boxes
These companies are clueless when naming products. Like this which is pronounced 'melee.' Or Czur which can be pronounced "seizure.'
The company itself is called Mele, and the word means "Apples" in Italian (and Albanian).
@@markdawson25 KameraShy is clueless.
This is just garbage. What a waste of money. Don't buy this or you'll regret it.
Celeron are trash
Good enough for an office PC.
