Girlschool are all personal friends of mine; they were pioneers in a world of metal/hard rock that was dominated by men. They showed that women always do it with a style and an intensity that is unique, sublime and captivating.
As a 36 yr long Sweet fan I have to say I don't mind this cover. Sweet is hard to copy no matter who it is! I did see Girlschool back in the days with Iron Maiden in Kansas City....the good days of Rock N Roll !!!!!
I remember watching VJ Michael Williams interviewing the band on MuchMusic when this came out. The guitarist on the left, wearing the hat, was new to the band, and Michael got her laughing by calling her the "virgin" of the band! 25 years ago. Man....
Girlschool are the best band at covering songs i've heard, they write some great original stuff too but where they really excel are their covers, so many of theirs are way more exciting and energetic than the originals which is usually pretty rare among other musicians.
I heard this song on Metal Mania on VH1CLASSIC. I totally fell inlove with the song and have hit the replay button like 10 times now. :) Awesome band and song,
Thats cool dude I love both metal and classic rock. Did u know that The Sweet were a huge inspiration to many of America's Glam Metal bands in the early 80's
What a great band. They were awesome.Saw them live back in 1984 opening for Deep Purple. They were phenominal.Denise is one of the best drummers around. She gets no credit for being a great drummer.I guess cause she is a female.Sorta like Gina Schock of the GoGos.Female drummers just don't get the credit they deserve.I still love you Denise. You are an awesome drummer.Keep rocking.
I don't know if Girlschool did a cover of "Wild Thing", but the song surely isn't on their Collection CD. ... but The Runaways did a cover of "Wild Thing" :)
The original from The Sweet can NOT be beaten, but, I admit, Girlschool made the best cover! yeah, I was one of those few here çold dudes) who did see The Sweet live!
It's a song by The Sweet. IT came out on THe Sweet's Mid-70s album Desolation Boulevard. It is not a tribute to Eric Carr. Eric was in Kiss way after this song was written.
this sounds more like the version of sweets "fox on the run" thats on the album "desolation boulevard" than the single version that became a hit - probably the db-version was the one this cover is based on.
including the Gogo's?? ;) I liked them in junior high... oops showed my age. LOL! I actually like the original version of this song by the band Sweet. Even have it as a ringtone sometimes on my cell phone.
I have an Avril Lavigne cd somewhere, it's o_I'd never put her above Girlschool or The Runaways_everything they did to stay true to Punk_Rock & Roll_& their sound makes them 2 of the most authentic bands from their generation_Didn't even have to mention their females, originators,& are braver than most guy musicians today Avril is talented, there's a 1,000 girls like her out there. She's a Radio Hit Singer I was listening more to Tsunami Bomb for a great female punk singer. Not "Complicated?...?"
@OhRanda Of course the original band version will always be best......they did a pretty good cover of it. I'm an original Sweet fan of 36 years. I've got cassettes of a lot of bands trying to cover Sweet tunes back in the day....Some covers are pretty sour...

I like this version. Its closer to Sweets original version than the hit single version.
good cover of a great song - these girls were good, but there will never be another Sweet...
I don't know if Girlschool did a cover of "Wild Thing", but the song surely isn't on their Collection CD.
... but The Runaways did a cover of "Wild Thing" :)
I like both its just whatever mood im in. oh theirs just something sexy about a woman playing guitar.
The original from The Sweet can NOT be beaten, but, I admit, Girlschool made the best cover! yeah, I was one of those few here çold dudes) who did see The Sweet live!

Hey, they had a song in Zombie Nightmare.
This song being covered by an all-girl group gives it an awesome lesbian subtext.
This is one fucking great cover!
